How can you be non binary if there are more than two genders?

If you actually self identify as non binary, what are you really saying?

Obviously you don't believe there are just two sexes, male and female, as otherwise you would agree that you are whichever sex your body actually is.

But if you believe there are several genders then you can't be non binary because genders are not binary.

I think that if you say you are non binary you are, by default, admitting that there are just two sexes and you acknowledge that you are one of them.

So how is any of that part of being transgender?

Claudia is a body snatcher? Wow.

TowelNumber42 · 30/11/2019 16:59

Mind you, Einstein had a few issues with quantum physics so maybe I'm on the right side of history there.

TowelNumber42 · 30/11/2019 16:56

I am in the wrong body. On the inside I have the body of Claudia Schiffer some days and the body of Dolph Lundgren on others, always have the brain of Einstein but when I look in the mirror or try to do quantum physics it doesn't work. Am I oppressed?

MIdgebabe · 30/11/2019 16:45

I ate the jelly baby and it's in my tummy not my head. Oh no,

MIdgebabe · 30/11/2019 16:44

How can you be in the wrong body, and who is in your body if you aren't?

QuantumEntanglement · 30/11/2019 16:09

I’ve been on a course.

Ooh so have I. Was it Basic Food Hygiene. Mine was years ago when I was a student and worked in a pub and I don’t think we covered jelly babies but I remember the bit about rice, very dodgy stuff is rice when it comes to food poisoning. I have a certificate somewhere...

...couldn’t find it but I’m sure I’m on a list somewhere and I can get a copy!

BickerinBrattle · 30/11/2019 15:58

The way I understand it, it all depends on the colour of the jelly-baby in your head. I’ve been on a course.

NotTerfNorCis · 30/11/2019 15:55

Trans makes a kind of logical sense if it's about people being 'in the wrong body', but NB makes no sense unless the body is taken out of the equation and it's all about a deep inner sense of 'gender'.

FWRLurker · 30/11/2019 15:50

It means one of two things:

  1. you think the vast majority of people are boring normies / walking stereotypes of femininity or masculinity whilst you are very very special nonconformist

  2. you have pretty severe gender dysphoria but know you’ll never pass as the opposite sex, but cosmetic surgery / hormones to appear somewhat more androgynous helps relieve it somewhat

The second category of people are fairly rational as they don’t expect anyone else to “correctly guess” their identity.

The first group are pretty self centered and apparently incapable of understanding that all other people have a diverse array of experiences with gender. Or maybe v sheltered / young

It means you think you're like Lydia from Beetlejuice...

Yes it’s the new androgyny with the odd bit of medical intervention thrown in the mix.

QuantumEntanglement · 30/11/2019 15:14

I think you will find you can't be trans if you are female and don't invest huge amounts of time and effort ensuring you look just the right way,

I guess that time when I briefly toyed with the idea of a burgundy dye job and a Betty Page fringe 3 decades ago (only my bff, to whom I shall be forever indebted, talked me out of it) doesn’t count?
No?

namechanger6060 · 30/11/2019 15:11

Its something to do with clownfish.

Spat out tea 😆

I want this on a tee shirt

DanaPhoenix · 30/11/2019 15:01

It really is an absolute crock. Sorry, but it really is. Leaving aside the whole physical presentation for a moment. I’m struggling to understand how this is being defined outside of that.

I had the best matchbox car collection in my street. I had a crew cut in 1st grade, shortest hair in the class, including the boys. I really need to find that photo.. crew cut - school dress. It really just boils down to interests and personality and individuality.

How did individuality and uniqueness become an identity? An actual protected identity. I suspect social media and narcissism.

OP, I’ve come to the conclusion that I and everyone I have ever known, know now and will know in the future was/is non-binary! Now, bear with me. It’s not because I move in particularly progressive circles, I don’t think I do, it’s because, if we follow the logic (I know but for the sake of argument...) of queer theory, we are all gender non-conforming to some extent aren’t we? I mean it would be impossible for one to conform with ALL of the 99-gazillion genders currently available wouldn’t it? So, if we’re all non-conforming that means we’re all non-binary and that means we’re all trans!

It's illogical, non-sensical, delusional, and protected as Truth by people equally as illogial, non-sensical and delusional.

Just refuse to accept these terms (asky people what they mean if they use it to you), and don't use them yourself.

Refuse to take part in this hysteria of madness.

TheShoesa · 30/11/2019 14:25

I can't quite put my finger on why, but these conversations remind me of the bit in The Incredibles when Helen says with a sigh 'Everyone's special, Dash' to which he replies sulkily 'Which is another way of saying no one is'

Non Binary applies to virtually everyone on the planet. Which makes us all / none of us special. We are still male or female, though

TowelNumber42 · 30/11/2019 14:15

I thought I was special not like other girls in my butch and (brief) goth phases. Then I grew out of the myopia of youth.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 30/11/2019 14:09

It just means they don't identify as either male or female.

And yet, male or female they remain.

Like everyone else on the planet.

Nobody identifies entirely with binary gender stereotypes. We're all "non-binary", it's meaningless.

NovemberDays · 30/11/2019 13:52

Yes to what Towel said - it is an individual opt-out of gender stereotypes and associated hierarchy because obviously that is how it works. These women who suffer at the sharp end of gender hierarchies forgot to opt-out or did not realise it was an option to identify as something else than female. Some of these women even misguidedly campaigned to dismantle these gender hierarchies and liberate women from the crap that comes with them, instead of just opting out. Amazingly short-sighted of them.

Although now I am confused because the likes of Jo Swinson appear both to have campaigned against the pinkification of girls’ toys and for gender ideology which supports such stereotypes.

Whoever said these is no logic is correct. Already going round in circles in my second paragraph. I think it is people saying they do not wish to be defined by their gender presentation, as if any of us do (although of course transpeople may, but even then I am confused).

TowelNumber42 · 30/11/2019 13:49

I think non-binary might be the whole middle bit of the alleged spectrum, i.e. almost everyone on the planet.

Grimbles · 30/11/2019 13:47

Its something to do with clownfish.

MIdgebabe · 30/11/2019 13:44

Because a lot of people think that there is a masculine and a feminine gender so none binary means you disagreee with that interpretation?

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 30/11/2019 13:30

But then why use the word 'binary

Stumped
