I really have to impress on everyone just how important it is to get out and vote Labour. The Tories have done nothing for anyone other than their rich buddies, and our present PM is a sexist bigot. Please vote Labour to save the NHS. Please.

Mustard the point of self ID is there is no more gatekeeping. There are no checks and balances because they are onerous and intrusive and transphobic.

Poota · 10/12/2019 19:01

Mustard, genuinely asking here, what do you need to read that will help you see the viewpoint here? I say again, once self ID is a reality, and any male who says he is a woman is given privilege on that basis, and even now organisations and authorities have been acting as though self ID was already law and women are facing assault in prison by males claiming to be women, male bodied people campaigning successfully to be let into changing spaces, and health authorities calling women who specify female only HCP, bigots.

That is the state of the situation before it becomes law.

Why do you need to be convinced it will be worse once it is?

MustardScreams · 10/12/2019 19:01

@TowelNumber42 thank you for explaining this. What I want to know is if this is for definite. That there absolutely will not be any safeguarding in place to prevent this.

MustardScreams · 10/12/2019 18:57

I’ve have heard it all now. So the Tories are just going to magically reverse all the horrific things they’ve done on the 13th? How many women and girls have died as a direct result of their policies? Thousands upon thousands. Preventable deaths.

TowelNumber42 · 10/12/2019 18:57

It's a lot easier to fight for, say, better funding for refuges if you still have the concept of women and the refuges are still in use.

Under Labour policies they'll be open to predatory men so vulnerable women will stop using them. Labour's self id policy would have thus fucked over vulnerable women far more than any Tory funding cuts. Even voluntary fundraising would dry up under Labour.

That's just the first example off the top of my head.

Poota · 10/12/2019 18:54

Mustard, you've already been given one example that the voter in question is doing so because even a spoiled ballot will let a fairly unsavoury transactivist LibDem into more power. I think she's made a fair point.

I think I'm going to have to spoil my ballot, but I'm not going to judge another woman for her considered political choices, even if I don't agree.

I really couldn't put my voting choices in starker terms than I already have.

I accept that MustardScreams cannot see my point of view and does not understand my reasoning. We have already had this exchange on another thread.

If you can get MustardScreams to see it from your point of view, great, good luck to you.

I've given up.

And I'm still voting Conservative.

MustardScreams · 10/12/2019 18:51

I’m asking if it is 100% certain that there will be zero safeguarding against vulnerable women and girls.

I’m not belittling this cause, I understand the impact and the severity of it. I want to know how vulnerable women and girls are going to be protected against the Tories.

MustardScreams · 10/12/2019 18:49

But how is voting Tory going to protect women? Because even if the bill isn’t passed then what will be done against the horrific Tory policies that already fucks over almost 50% of the population? At least the ones that aren’t rich?

Poota · 10/12/2019 18:49

Mustard, what are you asking here? Is it 100% certain that if Labour get in, or a coalition with LibDems and Greens, that self ID/reform of the GRA will be law? It's a manifesto promise from all of them.
If any male can identify as a woman and women who disagree have to accept males in female spaces or previously single sex roles or simply not use those spaces or services, then yes, the law change will 100% mean that.

Do you think the women who have been fighting this have been shadow boxing for fun? There are already consequences of people trying to 'get ahead of the law'. Once it is law, do you seriously think it is going to get better?

TowelNumber42 · 10/12/2019 18:46

That ONE policy fucks over at least 50% of the population. It will be difficult to reverse, is anti-science, anti-reality, enforces gender stereotypes, results in autistic and lesbian girls being encouraged towards medical treatment that has sterilises them and is hugely unpopular with the public.

That's a hell of a lot to achieve with one policy.

But is it 100% certain this is what is going to happen if the bill gets passed?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 10/12/2019 18:35

I wonder if the Labour candidates who're not responding disagree with party policy but are worried they'll get in trouble if they admit it.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 10/12/2019 18:34

I suppose you could elect to just not get a smear at all. Does someone have a link to the thread where there was a link to the NHS guidelines from Glasgow? The jist of it is, women who want a same sex HCP are bigots who should be reeducated.

MustardScreams · 10/12/2019 18:34

@SpartacusAutisticus I’m not telling anyone anything ffs. I’ve asked how people can live with themselves voting for a party that is very clearly anti-women and throwing women under the bus for ONE POLICY.

MustardScreams · 10/12/2019 18:32

Al there be absolutely zero safeguarding procedures in place to protect vulnerable women? This is 100% certain? Women will be forced to have a smear by a man if he says he’s a woman?

Do all parties apart from Tories say that with self-id men will 100% be able to say ‘I’m a woman’ and instantly be allowed into female only spaces?

No, it will be considered transphobic to require them to say ‘I’m a woman’ or to ask them in any way. Therefore female only spaces will simply be open to man who wishes to use them.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 10/12/2019 18:24

I emailed my Labour candidate about a month ago, laying out my concerns about self-ID & sex-based rights. Nothing except for an election leaflet in the post. So tonight I’ve resent my email with a brief note on top making it clear that how she answers will tell me whether I can vote for her.

As an example, I've seen multiple articles talking about the rate of rape committed by women rising. It is not possible to be convicted of rape under UK law if you don't have a penis. That's just one small example of how the changes being made result in a situation where it's no longer possible to accurately describe what's happening to women or who's responsible.

Michelleoftheresistance · 10/12/2019 18:13

It's been slipped this far without ever putting it in a manifesto or any other democratic process. This is deliberate, there are threads about this sharing the records of this being an intentional, planned strategy to prevent democracy stopping it. Self ID is already happening, with the law in place to stop it, which is why court cases are in process about this and women are writing to everyone in sight, holding meetings and all the rest of it.

Not only is this radically damaging to many vulnerable groups of women in the UK, and having practical impacts of assaults, rapes,(and we only know about the ones that have escaped into the newspapers), women homeless because there are no refuges they can access because of males in them (talk to the MNetter in this situation, she was in a tent the last I heard from her), this will remove women in law. Totally. You will not be able to see inequality for women and girls once this is done, the crime statistics have already been in the papers this week as no longer showing usable or analysable stats for female people because the group is females plus anyone else who wanted to identify.
