The Guardian... Blind Date 23 November

I post this aware that I might get a warning.

However!

www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2019/nov/23/blind-date-jen-anna-glasses-fog-up

The woman, a lesbian, Anna (and the Guardian readership) did not reveal that Jen is a trans woman.

The whole thing is gaslighting.
And I may be deleted for that sentence.
There is a good thread on Twitter which I'll link.

I read that item this weekend and had a good stare at the photos - it was obvious to me that one of the participants was a transwoman but as the article didn't make any mention of it I assumed the woman was aware. That is shocking that she wasn't told.

Jesus fucking Christ this is an absolutely horrible thing to do! Every day I think surely there can’t be any more fuckery to come but there always is. Poor anna - to be put in a situation of a date with a bio Male knowing the moment you arrived the guardian had fucked you over and then having to make nice all the while knowing it would appear in the paper. The absolute cunts!!!

MangoesAreMyFavourite · 26/11/2019 06:55

Common or garden variety homophobia, innit.

Next up should be a straight bloke and a transwoman.

ResistSexism · 26/11/2019 06:44

The Guardian sent a lesbian on a blind date with a male Shock Shock

It smacks of enforced homosexual conversion. Do they not know what a lesbian is?

TheNameGames · 26/11/2019 06:40

Also, fell down a bit of a rabbit hole reading the twitter feed from one of the people calling the OP a TERF: @indianblondy. It’s just.. I can’t.. even.. Confused

TheNameGames · 26/11/2019 06:28

@NotBadConsidering The twitter thread seems like Anna was clearly not okay with it.

This reply to someone’s comment from the OP of the twitter thread, Lara Adams Miller made me Hmm

If a major publication thinks that this is okay then we are absolutely in the grip of a major mass delusion. The stunt has a sever lack of decorum and sanity. It won’t be soon enough when these publications die off.

It’s a damn shame because The Guardian has been relatively reasonable about the gender stuff prior to now. They’re one of the few outlets that actually publishes writing about women’s concerns on this.

What else does she read that she thinks the Guardian is anywhere NEAR leading on writing stuff or reasonable about this?

NotBadConsidering · 26/11/2019 06:12

Without sifting through the whole thread, has Anna expressed any opinion on it? When you sign up for it, do you specify your preferences? Does she have any concern about whether her preferences were ignored?

Maybe when you sign up for it you can tick all the gender boxes you’re interested in and maybe Anna describes themselves in a different way to lesbian, one of those new woke terms 23 year olds are prone to.

Just want to be sure what we are dealing with.

HandsOffMyRights · 26/11/2019 04:53

Reading the Twitter comments, several asking why they chose a woman for this and how despicable The Guardian is.

Incidentally, I know of a single mother who was raped and strangled on a blind date. Chilling.

HandsOffMyRights · 26/11/2019 04:46

How utterly deceitful and disrespectful towards Anna.

Fallingirl · 26/11/2019 04:29

Horrific. Unbelievably disrespectful to play games with that woman.

Like a tweeter says, only women are expected to react nicely to being treated that way.

Backinthecloset123 · 26/11/2019 04:13

Sorry, the trans woman and the Guardian did not reveal. To the woman. The lesbian. Anger makes me a tad incoherent.
