Glad to be alive on a day when a bunch of feminists are fangirling wildly over a marvellously sardonic and sensible judge.

PurpleHoodie · 21/11/2019 15:29

His Lordship.

From a working class family, and council estate in Manchester.

Kit19 · 21/11/2019 15:29

can we set up a fan site for the judge ? I mean WOW

my head is still spinning at how bad the police counsel was and how pretty much everything they said fell apart under questioning. I mean it wasnt even difficult to expose the ridiculousness

FleetsumNJetsum · 21/11/2019 15:27

Ta, CaveMum

Melioration · 21/11/2019 15:27

(I am also in love with the judge Grin)

YourOpinionIsNoted · 21/11/2019 15:27

Well! That was quite a ride.

I think we should get the judge's comments about the term 'TERF' printed onto t shirts.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 21/11/2019 15:26

I really feel like running up and down my office with my shirt over my head

It feels like the judge totally got it

didn't it? Didn't it?

OvaHere · 21/11/2019 15:26

It looks as though the judge meant that if the complainant was calling women terfs, and having a go at them, unfortunately, being a woman isnt a protected characteristic. In terms of hate incidents, that is.

What the judge won't realise (due in part to having better things to do than being on twitter all day Grin) is that TERF is disproportionately aimed at lesbian women which is a protected characteristic.

Melioration · 21/11/2019 15:25

Are there any thread reader app links for the live tweets as I am struggling to follow all the tweets?

I was looking for one on twitter but you have to trawl through the whole thread so it would be just easier to read the tweets.

Womenzwork · 21/11/2019 15:25

Oh that Judge! Beautiful reading, big thanks to all involved and the phenomenal tweeting.

OvaHere · 21/11/2019 15:24

This is some background on the presiding Judge. Times article is paywalled so I can't read most of it.

Oh wow, BBC. Not even trying to pretend they're impartial now.

Datun · 21/11/2019 15:23

Tweeters seem to be saying different things about whether the judge was suggesting terf could be considered a protected characteristic.

Judge - I am very grateful to all counsel for the assistance I have been given. I will take time to consider my decision. I will circulate a draft judgment then hand it down. Can't promise when. I am hoping before Christmas.

I am acutely aware of the interest

CaveMum · 21/11/2019 15:20

@FleetsumNJetsum it was tucked away on the “Lincolnshire” page last night 🤔. Obviously it’s only a local interest story...

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 21/11/2019 15:20

I know we have said this over and over but the people behind this really are their own worst enemies, in terms of proving the points we are making. It doesn't take much for it all to unravel when they are questioned properly

On a relevant note, maybe my strike for being deleted after saying "hoist with his own petard" might be overturned? Despite the phrase being the original wording of the Shakespeare phrase, someone believed this was offensive Hmm as clearly I meant it in a nasty way. I might have appreciated the irony behind it under the circumstances all right, but talk about censorship...

clitherow · 21/11/2019 15:16

I'm fairly certain that another GMP account was tweeting along the lines of 'no terfs on our turf'. Can anyone else remember this?

Was it this?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 21/11/2019 15:16

Oh please let someone try. Christmas is soon.

RedDogsBeg · 21/11/2019 15:16

Any reaction from the usual suspects? Has the tutting QC made any comments on this or the Maya Forstarter case?

PurpleHoodie · 21/11/2019 15:15

God help anyone calling his Lordship a TERF to his face Shock

ClosdesMouches · 21/11/2019 15:14

Was foothills a reference to the term "peak t#$ns" that I'm not sure if we're allowed to use any more under the latest version of the special rules?

Better be careful Kittens, we'll probably find that 'foothills' becomes another word we dare not utter here!

Datun · 21/11/2019 15:14

And the judge was rather surprised at quite how much of the 28 pages had been redacted.

Jeez.

ClosdesMouches · 21/11/2019 15:12

Judge - I have become familiar with term TERF. It is a derogatory term used by those who seek to deplatform those who hold different views.

TERF has been used by the official Greater Manchester Police Twitter account. (Not the LGBTQ account. The official account.) It was deleted after the author of the tweet had spent some time arguing that TERF isn't a slur...
