The genderbread person.

Introduced as a resource at multi agency training today at a school, the trainer was wearing a TWAW t-shirt.

Very directive training, almost militant - affirmation is the only way. Lots of skepticism and even some sniggering from the staff attending, and attempts we’re made to challenge the trainer but they would not deviate from the dogma.

I was looking for the thread that was on here asking for training experiences but couldn’t find it, apologies for starting a new thread.

OldCrone

Thanks for the reminder. Have just completed the consultation. It actually only took me 5 minutes to do. I didn’t answer the questions about the Welsh language. Here is my answer to question 1):

In general, it is a good thing that parents/carers will not be allowed to withdraw their children from these subjects. Requiring all children to learn about other religions, and those who choose to have no religion, encourages understanding of others and hopefully tolerance of diversity. Similarly, teaching children about puberty, sexual intercourse, reproduction and relationships, helps them to make informed decisions about their bodies and their boundaries. Teaching about different sexualities is important, especially for those children who may encounter families with homosexual/bisexual parents, or for those children who may be questioning their own sexuality.

However, I do not condone the teaching of current “transgender ideology”, and would wish to have the option of withdrawing my children if certain unscientific facts were being taught to them. I am happy for the concept of “gender dysphoria” to be introduced as a situation where somebody feels distressed about their biological sex, and may attempt to alleviate this dysphoria by trying to present as the opposite sex. But to teach children that they can change their biological sex, or to teach them that not conforming to gender stereotypes must mean that they were “born in the wrong body” , are both unacceptable.

Sex is a biological diamorphism which is observed and recorded at birth - the term “assigned male/female at birth” is not factual. Research has shown that many young people who identify as “transgender”, may actually be doing so due to distress caused by them actually being homosexual, or autistic, or having suffered sexual abuse, so to “affirm” this claim of being transgender could falsely lead a child down a pathway of treatment with untested puberty blocking drugs, and ultimately irreversible surgery (and resultant sterility). There are many detransitioners who are starting to find their voices, who are showing us that affirming transgender children in their belief that they are the opposite sex, is in most cases a form of abuse.

If anyone is having this training please ask this question:

What do you mean by masculinity and femininity?

If our daughters, (for instance), are going to be told that they have been born in the wrong body because they are displaying what the trainer considers masculine characteristics, please, PLEASE ask her/him to give you an example.

It immediately exposes the rank and nonsensical sexism.

What do you mean by masculinity and femininity?

I strongly suspect they will be unable to answer.

So keep asking. Say if they're possibly transgender, because of their masculinity or femininity, please tell us what that looks like.

Make them say it.

Aaarrgghhh · 16/11/2019 18:47

It’s all ridiculous. Way to fuck up our kids. I won’t have mine bow down to any of the teachings of they happen at their schools once older. Hoping this bullshit has died a death before then.

OldCrone · 16/11/2019 17:05

From September 2020, it's compulsory for schools to teach the facts about gender identity. Somehow, we have to convince them that these aren't the facts.

If you're in Wales, they haven't yet decided whether to make this compulsory, so there's still time to make your objections known. This consultation is open until 28th November.

You don't have to be in Wales to participate.

In a previous consultation, it looks as though the message about gender identity might have started to get through.

A few respondents raised concerns surrounding the specific inclusion of gender identity in RSE

StillWeRise · 16/11/2019 12:22

I wonder if these trainers ever talk to each other? we had LGBT training and the original trainer wasn't available, he was replaced by a gay man in his - I guess- early 60s, who agreed with me that T didn't really belong with LGB as it's not a sexuality.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 16/11/2019 11:39

In keeping with the seasonal treats theme maybe our Anti Gender Medusa can be made of stollen?

(I'm annoyed that they're trying to taint gingerbread. I like gingerbread.)

cwg1 · 16/11/2019 11:31

Youwont I hope you're right but there are a lot of teachers who seem to be taking this on board. There was an FWRer the other day who said her PSHE colleagues are very keen on this. They genuinely believe it and teach it.

Youwontcatchme · 16/11/2019 11:13

I cannot repeat the conversations had between staff after this training on here as it would get me banned as it flouts every Mumsnet posting rule on trans issues - but in the real world, the trans ideology is being rejected and ridiculed, particularly by males.

ShagMeRiggins · 16/11/2019 11:11

And saying “let” my daughter be who she is, I realise, is fairly controlling language. More accurately, my husband and I love her for who she is and encourage her self-expression whether that be academically, emotionally, or sartorially, etc.

MrsWednesdayteatime · 16/11/2019 11:09

Gender stereotyping = banned in advertising as harmful

Gender stereotyping = promoted in schools and workplaces by Gingerbread people, unicorns, mermaids and jelly babies!

Confused
ShagMeRiggins · 16/11/2019 11:08

ShagMeRiggins · 16/11/2019 11:08

Someone asked the trainer why can’t we just leave the students alone, if a girl wants to dress in a masculine way then just let her, apparently that is unfair as she would clearly be identifying as a male, and by not making her aware of her options (ie to be trans) we are removing her freedom of choice.

Infuriating. INFURIATING!!

This is my 12-year-old daughter being described, and though I grew up stereotypically girly-girl (cheerleader, ballet) who moved into uni chinky sweaters and boots, then found my own true style and comfort in who I am (a mix of both, surprise surprise), I don’t want these fuckers messing with our children.

I let my daughter be who she is, and express herself how she likes. She doesn’t need to be told that she identifies as male if she happens to be non-conforming to gender stereotypes.

Absolute fuckers.

Pukeworthy · 16/11/2019 11:00

All due respect....fuck femininity and masculinity - this is so 50s!?

Youwontcatchme · 16/11/2019 10:58

What would happen if the genderbread person rode in on the gender unicorn?

OP posts:
TheProdigalKittensReturn · 16/11/2019 10:24

Unicorns and mermaids and all manner of creatures that don't actually exist that are very appealing to children. It's the I have a van with puppies would you like to come see of the internet.

Maybe we should make a Gender Medusa with helpful little arrows.

Melroses · 16/11/2019 10:01

Oh thank you - knew there was one somewhere!

I have come to dislike unicorns intensely. Woe betide anyone who gives me something with a unicorn on it.

Cookieflavoredbiscuit · 16/11/2019 09:39

Here we have the more sophisticated Gender Unicorn, which helpfully adds an "other" category, and more clearly differentiates between "sex" and "sex assigned at birth. And leaves armpits out.

EL2019 · 16/11/2019 09:34

“ if a girl wants to dress in a masculine way then just let her, apparently that is unfair as she would clearly be identifying as a male”

FFS. Do we really have to explain it in one syllable words?
I went to an all girls sixth form when Nirvana and grunge were at their height. The presenter would have been very confused by the amount of baggy flannel shirts and DM boots being worn. Not a glittery handbag or a false eyelash in site. Clearly there should have been some kind of trans intervention as we were all crying out for help.

BadgertheBodger · 16/11/2019 09:29

The absolute nonsense of this and other similar training makes my teeth itch. I do not understand why such a profoundly incorrect, anti-science position is considered to be acceptable Hmm

Cookieflavoredbiscuit · 16/11/2019 09:26

Not that it's the point, but why is "expression" pointing to its armpit?

Maybe that's because if you identify as a a woman, part of the "expression" would be to shave it, and if you identify as a man, you don't?

But I don't identify as a man or shave anywhere, so...

GaraMedouar · 16/11/2019 09:26

Oh my goodness - hope they don’t have this at my DDs school. I’m worried about the shaving armpits. I do in the Summer , but in the Winter I can’t be bothered - Does this make me a man in the winter months? ! Grin

I make sure DD knows what is a boy, what is a girl. She knows that if a boy chops his winkie off, then he becomes a boy who’s chopped his winkie off.

FamilyOfAliens · 16/11/2019 09:24

the trainer was wearing a TWAW t-shirt.

Wait, what? Someone came into a school wearing a political slogan on their t-shirt and was allowed to deliver training?

Maybe I should run my next school safeguarding course wearing my “eat the rich” t-shirt. I’m sure that would be allowed.

TruthOnTrial · 16/11/2019 09:18

Way to go! Facing with reality!

Youwontcatchme · 16/11/2019 09:09

A science teacher was the one who made the comment that they won’t magically grow a penis.

OP posts:
Youwontcatchme · 16/11/2019 09:08

At the end of the training we were not really any closer to being able to support the students other than a recommendation to refer them to an LGBTQetc support charity.
