How does this work? - can the judge only go on things said and presented in court, or are they able to do their own research into the truthfulness / correctness of the evidence?

I'm confident the judge will determine the case, as he should, on the facts and the law.

He seems pretty grounded. In a recent case he ruled that 'leaving a witch’s hat on a female employee’s desk, in a predominantly male working environment, was an inherently sexist act'.
