There was the SNP Women's Pledge, launched at their conference last month, and now there is a Labour women's pledge with 300 founder signatories, including three MSPs.

Signed. Excellent petition

Redshoeblueshoe · 12/11/2019 10:41

My female labour MP is woke, she even signed the stupid Fox and Owl letter.
She thinks women should just try harder.
I think it's a bit rich coming from someone who got her VERY VERY safe seat via an AWS

Oldstyle · 12/11/2019 10:32

821 signatures now...
I'm vaguely hopeful. This was/is a grassroots campaign by LP women who are still fighting from within, following the SNP lead. Labour might be already too far down the rabbit hole but it's cheering that the fight back is becoming more public. Please sign if you can.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 12/11/2019 10:18

It’s shocking that I can read such a sensible list of policy statements and know that my beloved Labour Party will not endorse them. In fact will view them as hate speech.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 12/11/2019 10:05

Charleston, yes, I did think that. Very convenient timing.

Find a few willing to be sacrifical lambs so that you can pretend that you secretly care about women's rights, while the top brass say nothing that might actually jeopardise Eddie Izzard's support.

Hm.

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 12/11/2019 09:56

Agree Joisanofthedales. It sounds promising but the treatment of women by Labour lately... I'd want to see what affect it has in party policy, see what JC says about it. I still don't think, unless there's a definite shift in the party, that I would vote for them though. The action of the lib dems has left me with no one to vote for Sad

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 12/11/2019 09:44

I've emailed my local CLP to see if they would sign up to it as an organisation, since they haven't actually selected a candidate for December yet Hmm

charlestonchaplin · 12/11/2019 09:42

This comes at a very convenient time for the Labour Party. Those on the ground know how discontented many women are with Labour, including former party members, so they launch this during the election campaign to convince us to stick with them. We’re talking about 300 party members with hardly any power. And I’m sure it won’t be long before a counter petition proclaiming transwomen are women and need to be included in any discussion about women is organised by other Labour Party members. When senior figures in the Labour Party recognise women’s sex-based rights, that will be the time to pay attention.

Rubidium · 12/11/2019 09:36

That's a lot of signatures from Tottenham CLP. Isn't that the CLP of the young woke bloke who denounced WPUK at this year's conference in Brighton? I'd love to be a fly on the wall at one of their meetings.

Dljlr · 12/11/2019 09:32

Signed it, sceptical as others though. Who is anyone voting for please? I don't know what to do! The Lib Dems don't want me, and I don't want them with their drinking attitude towards my rights. I seriously think I have no one at all to vote for this election.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 12/11/2019 09:30

Yes, while momentum are in charge the party is doomed

This will not become party policy

It’s still great though

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 12/11/2019 09:26

Do not be fooled. There is no way that will become official labour policy in any meaningful way.

Joisanofthedales · 12/11/2019 09:13

I've signed but I am pessimistic about how much effect it will have on Labour party policy, given that momentum control conference and they are ultra woke. Also given the fawning attitude of Cornyn, Butler, Millar etc towards those men who have self identified as women and taken posts such as womens officer, it will take a siesmic shift to get womens rights valued above those who self identify.

AlwaysColdHands · 12/11/2019 09:07

Glad someone beat me to it by posting this here. Signed & will share 👍🏻

everythingthelighttouches · 12/11/2019 09:01

Does this mean the Labour policy will change? That would be incredible!

Do representations like this usually get traction in the main party and if so, what would the next steps be?

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 12/11/2019 08:59

That’s brilliant. I’ve signed it

howonearthdidwegethere · 12/11/2019 08:54

I'm going to email my Labour PPC and ask if they'll be signing. And if not, why not. Because, honestly, which of these demands are unacceptable?

  1. Women and girls are subject to discrimination and oppression on the basis of their sex.
  1. Women have the right to freedom of belief, freedom of expression and freedom of assembly (Articles 18, 19 and 20 of the UN Declaration of Human Rights).
  1. Women have the right to discuss policies which affect them, without being abused, harassed or intimidated.
  1. Women have the right to maintain their sex-based protections, as set out in the Equality Act 2010. These include female-only spaces such as changing rooms, hospital wards, sanitary and sleeping accommodation, refuges, hostels and prisons.
  1. Women have the right to participate in single-sex sports, to ensure fairness and safety at all levels of competition.
  1. Women have the right to organise themselves, as a sex, across a range of cultural, leisure, educational and political activities.
  1. We condemn all attempts to undermine or limit the rights of women to self-organise and call on the Labour Party and the trades union movement to actively support these essential freedoms.

In my constituency, it's a run-off between Labour and the SNP, so I can handily ask the SNP PPC if they've signed the SNP Women's Pledge. And again, if not, why not.

Signed!

(And yes - have my eyes out for PPC names - my local candidate is very TWAW)

severnboring · 12/11/2019 08:17

Sorry to be Cynical Cynthia, but I'll be very surprised if any Labour PPCs for Westminster sign this. Happy to be proved wrong.

Siameasy · 12/11/2019 08:01

Wow - imagine this a year ago !

teawamutu · 12/11/2019 07:44

Signed. And it's gained 100 in about the last hour.

BadgertheBodger · 12/11/2019 07:35

Brilliant. Signed it.

StrictlyNameChangin · 12/11/2019 07:28

Women have the right to discuss policies which affect them, without being abused, harassed or intimidated.

Wow. It's like common sense is back in the room!

AnyOldPrion · 12/11/2019 07:28

Tide on turn?

It’s beginning to feel that way to me too. The mood on Twitter is changing and I don’t think it’s all down to t*rfblockers.

AristotlesTrousers · 12/11/2019 07:25

Signed. Smile
