Lib Dems actively deterring GC women

Today I emailed the Lib Dems expressing an interest in joining their party.

I stated no one should receive discrimination or abuse for their transgender status but explained that I am GC and I asked if there was room for GC women in the party.

I received the following response:
Thank you for getting in touch. Whilst we appreciate your interest in joining, you should be aware that the Liberal Democrats are a trans inclusive party, and we have made it clear that we fully behind trans communities. As liberals we champion everyone’s right to live the life they want. By the sounds of your email it appears that your values are not aligned with ours so we are probably not the right the party for you.

I am flabbergasted. I didn't expect that I would have to believe that humans can change biological sex in order to be a member of the Lib Dems.

I am so disappointed. I was going to vote for them in the GE (passionate Remainer) but I cannot if this is their response.

There is no one to vote for. I am lost.

Curiously, their constitution omits prejudice based on gender identity or reassignment from their list of unacceptable prejudices.

Inebriati “All 4 major parties and UKIP plan to abolish The Equality Act and remove women's rights“

Bit confused by this.

PocketDictionary · 07/11/2019 16:54

Despite all this crap, I still don’t think Lib Dems are necessarily any worse for women than Labour or the Tories.

On the basis that they've declined OP's money I would say they are. They just made TWAW more important than her view on Brexit, NHS, homelessness, the economy etc. Exposed as a one trick pony party unwilling to agree on some policies and able to respectfully disagree on others.

Inebriati · 07/11/2019 16:50

All 4 major parties and UKIP plan to abolish The Equality Act and remove women's rights.
Tell me again how its us who are aligned with the Right.

Does anyone have any idea of the direction of travel in the EU as regards gender/sex/self i. d?

It varies. Some small countries (Ireland, Malta, Denmark) have gone the whole self-ID route. At the other end of the scale, some countries require genital surgery before allowing a change of legal sex. I think there may still be a few countries where it's not possible to change legal sex. Many have laws similar to the current one in the UK.

So far, the laws have only gone in one direction.

A general election is coming up. Tell your friends about this email!

RedToothBrush · 07/11/2019 16:42

Slow hand clap for the LDs.

Probably would have had my vote.

This, is the final straw in a long personal saga.

Do they not realise there is an election?

Justhadathought · 07/11/2019 16:36

I used to really like the LibDems. They seem to have rather overestimated themselves recently, though

Joe Swinson doesn't convince either. She's mainly in role because she's young'ish and female.

Justhadathought · 07/11/2019 16:34

Does anyone have any idea of the direction of travel in the EU as regards gender/sex/self i. d? If they are going/gone down the rabbit hole, I think I'd rather leave. More chance of influencing a national government than the entire EU

I think we need to accept that this is a longer term political movement - and that things may well get worse before the ship is finally turned around. I firmly believe this will happen with time...maybe 10/15 years when the detransitioners have told their stories; the children have sued health services, and others, for permitting them to make these sorts of decisions; when the implications of men in women's facilities really starts to be felt by most women; and when men win more women's sporting events.....

I cannot vote for anyone unless they are clear in their support for women and women's spaces and services. Thus far, none of the parties are - so I cannot vote for any of them....no matter how much other issues concern me.

From another thread. Please don’t vote Tory as a protest! www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-50322512

Even when they are actively deterring GC women from joining or voting for them......really? This is not the first time this has cropped up with them. Lynne Featherstone said the exact same thing. Lots of young Lib-Dem councillors have tweeted some pretty horrendous anti-woman stuff too.

Joisan am inclined to agree. Never thought in a million years I'd consider voting for Conservatives yet here we are. Waiting to hear back from my local Lib Dem candidate after emailing yesterday with WPUK

You really don't have to do anything as drastic as vote Tory. I know it is difficult when you really want to vote, but do consider spoiling your paper - and stating the reasons why. also make sure you tell all political canvassers why you intend to do this.

Lysistrataknowsherstuff · 07/11/2019 16:24

The Lib Dems went massively downhill in my opinion when I found that Layla Moran has a conviction for DV that the party tried to cover up as they thought she was a rising star - the assault actually happened at at Lib Dem conference! If they'll cover up DV what else will they cover up?

Justhadathought · 07/11/2019 16:22

I care very much about the risks to single sex facilities, services etc, but not more than other political matters such as Brexit and austerity

You see, I do care more about 'the woman issue' - because for me it is a FIRST ORDER issue in its magnitude and implication; far more so than Brexit or even the NHS. This is not 'just' about public toilets; it is far more profound than that.

DryHeave · 07/11/2019 16:21

Not very diverse, then...

Whatisthisfuckery · 07/11/2019 16:19

Have we any party members here who fancy emailing asking if as GC women and feminists they’re still welcome?

Justhadathought · 07/11/2019 16:19

I now live in a seat where it will be between the conservatives and the lib dems. I have never voted in my life for the Tories but this time, holding my nose, I will. I cannot allow in a really anti women party like the lib dems

No don't vote Tory - just spoil your ballot stating the reasons why.

LoveCompost · 07/11/2019 16:17

They sound like a disappointed teacher talking to a maladjusted teenager ! Tell them their values are well below yours and you’ll be taking your vote elsewhere. And tell them to go and educate themselves 😂😂😂

Justhadathought · 07/11/2019 16:16

I am flabbergasted. I didn't expect that I would have to believe that humans can change biological sex in order to be a member of the Lib Dems

I'm not quite so surprised, as that is their line......their liberalism first principles mean that they prioritise individual liberty above all....and do not seem to be able, or willing, to negotiate the obvious conflicts of interest involved in the transgender ideology. The Liberals are about as bad as it gets in this respect.

Ereshkigal · 07/11/2019 16:13

“we champion everyone’s right to live the life they want.”

There is no such right. Many people don't get to live the life they want. Fatuous thought-terminating cliché.

AlwaysTawnyOwl · 07/11/2019 16:12

‘It isn’t possible to change biological sex’. This is just stating a fact with which the vast majority of scientists would concur. So are they all unwelcome in the party too? Mind you this is the party that has MPs that can ‘see souls’ and even more remarkably know if they are male or female souls. (Layla Moran). This would be such a good Daily Mail story......

Lilimoon · 07/11/2019 16:10

Will you post if the other parties respond please OP?

Loopytiles · 07/11/2019 16:06

Not just Brexit: antidemocratic practices such as proroguing Parliament; cuts in public spending etc.

Indeed Boris’ personal record as a father and politician.

voting for the Tories because of Lib Dem idiocy on trans / womens stuff isn’t likely to benefit women.
