Lib Dems actively deterring GC women

Today I emailed the Lib Dems expressing an interest in joining their party.

I stated no one should receive discrimination or abuse for their transgender status but explained that I am GC and I asked if there was room for GC women in the party.

I received the following response:
Thank you for getting in touch. Whilst we appreciate your interest in joining, you should be aware that the Liberal Democrats are a trans inclusive party, and we have made it clear that we fully behind trans communities. As liberals we champion everyone’s right to live the life they want. By the sounds of your email it appears that your values are not aligned with ours so we are probably not the right the party for you.

I am flabbergasted. I didn't expect that I would have to believe that humans can change biological sex in order to be a member of the Lib Dems.

I am so disappointed. I was going to vote for them in the GE (passionate Remainer) but I cannot if this is their response.

There is no one to vote for. I am lost.

If the clue was in the name, perhaps the LibDems would be a bit more fucking democratic...

PocketDictionary · 09/11/2019 23:39

Delighted this reaching a wider audience. You tell people & they think you're making it up it sounds so nutty.

Mner2019 · 09/11/2019 19:25

Whoop! Well done OP.

BeMoreMagdalen · 09/11/2019 19:10

Oh bring it on. A few 'Only vote LibDem if you believe men can be women' headlines will bring in a lovely bit of sunlight while the election candidates are apparently trying to attract the 'female vote'.

ImGenderfree · 09/11/2019 18:58

I know - cold, harsh daylight on these views. Do they want to be elected?

SunsetBeetch · 09/11/2019 18:54

Oh, beaten to the punch there! Great to see this in the news.

OP you’re famous it’s been reported in The Times along with the Lib Dem’s suspending Aimee Challenor. Lib Dem spokesperson comment at the end saying ‘That’s where we’re at. The response we sent back is polite. Our views aren’t aligned with her views.”

Ironic headline in Guardian today (I know, sorry).

@OxfordCat 'equality is not a religion'
it certainly is not, but believing in gendered 'brains'/essence/sould very much is.
whispers - also everyone sees through your soundbites...nonesense is still nonesense even when its expressed in short cliches

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 09/11/2019 16:48

The belief that a mammal can change sex has zero evidence in favour and relies entirely on a 'feeling' - it sure fits my definition of a religion, especially when you have a special name for people who don't believe, backed up with violent threats.

Maybe 'belief system' would indeed be a better choice of words.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 09/11/2019 15:54

@OxfordCat is it prejudiced to say trans people should face no discrimination or abuse?!

You're a joke.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 09/11/2019 14:26

Now Excluding people who don't follow this belief is... discrimination!

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 09/11/2019 14:22

It's not "prejudiced" to refuse to follow a belief system, it falls in the same category as any other religion.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 09/11/2019 14:21

The belief that a human who doesn't follow their gender stereotype is born in the wrong body is just that, a belief system. Everyone has a right to their belief and are free to express it however they like, in this case dressing in the close stereotypical of the opposite sex. This is already protected by law.

Oxford, it's the forcing of this belief system on others that is the problem here.

DuMondeB · 09/11/2019 14:20

equality is not a religion

Women don’t need equality, equality with men would mean two of us having to beat our male partners to death every week.

Women need liberation, not equality.

After the coalition government I wouldn’t trust a Lib Dem to mind my pint while I nipped to the

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 09/11/2019 14:16

equality is not a religion.

And what rights if any are Transwomen missing in regards to any other men?

OxfordCat · 09/11/2019 14:13

@TheHeathenOfSuburbia equality is not a religion.

OvaHere · 09/11/2019 13:34

Why are you surprised that the Liberal Democrats (the clue is in the name) wouldn't want to recruit openly prejudiced people to their ranks?

They seem just fine with prejudice against women.

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 09/11/2019 13:04

Why are you surprised that the Liberal Democrats (the clue is in the name) wouldn't want to recruit openly prejudiced people to their ranks?

Someone who doesn't share your religion, and who opposes it being written into law and imposed on others, is not (necessarily) prejudiced against you.

Even though I think trans people should be fully protected by law against discrimination, I'm a scientist and an atheist and can no more pretend that mammals can change sex, than i could kneel in a church and take communion.

Velveteenfruitbowl · 09/11/2019 12:41

Any response from other parties? I would be interested to know their position (although it’s pretty evident that labour is pro gender theory but it would be interesting to see how they deal with dissenting views). I have no idea what the Tory position is - does anyone know?

Justhadathought · 09/11/2019 12:40

Why are you surprised that the Liberal Democrats (the clue is in the name) wouldn't want to recruit openly prejudiced people to their ranks?

you are clearly being provocative...but the liberals fail women because their whole emphasis is on liberal ideals....and they seem to find conflicts of interest very difficult to negotiate; hence they ignore them.
The Liberals are wishy washy, in my view, and have no fire in their belly. They will waver and equivocate on any number of issues.

Justhadathought · 09/11/2019 12:37

I won’t vote for any party that supports self-Id. Does anyone know what the Brexit Party’s stance on this is?

Better to spoil your paper than willingly vote for a party just because you may agree with them on one issue - whilst being totally against everything else they stand for.

Justhadathought · 09/11/2019 12:35

it cant just slip under the radar, it would have to be proposed, consulted on, bills submitted and then passed by a majority

But it is...and nobody dare speak up about it, and those that do are de-deselected, castigated and called 'transphobes' Those who are not so brave sit on their hands and say nothing.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 09/11/2019 12:13

Does anyone know what the Brexit Party’s stance on this is

Their only purpose is a no deal Brexit, I'm not sure they have anything else.
