Please access the podcast on the Fair Cop website - right hand corner menu has podcasts - I’m having a little trouble with the link . Sarah and Anna explain the significance of the JR and how unusual it is to be granted one . So someone, somewhere can see this is important to our democracy . Also clear that the JR is costing around 200k - please donate if you see this as our major chance to turn this around .
Enjoy the podcast , it’s calm and professional . Also it is fascinating .

Is one thread not enough for you, Apple?

Birdsfoottrefoil · 01/12/2019 01:35

So defamatory, harassment and malicious communication?

Daily it might be helpful if you expanded on the contents of the blogs in question? Were they defamatory? Inciting hatred or violence? Obscene? Or were they stating biological facts?

JellySlice · 01/12/2019 00:40

Oho! A red flag phrase has appeared on the Fair Cop thread: I seek information and clarification.

The scope for tyranny in the police's claim is terrifying. The podcast was very clear. If Fair Cop don't succeed we will end up in a society where pointing out that human beings can't change sex qualifies as a hate incident.

I've been tottering along with poor health on a teensy weensy income for some time. Have just been awarded PIP at the top level which makes me feel positively affluent so was thrilled to be able to make a (very small) donation to this important case.

Siameasy · 15/11/2019 11:59

Presumably they are a public body - what about the Human Rights Act ? It is very dangerous territory if they are telling people that asking certain questions is hate. Who are they to determine the emotions that people hold? Maybe the questions were not asked in hate but in concern. Are COP now in charge of classifying emotions ?!

Siameasy · 15/11/2019 11:56

That’s bonkers. Presumably they would record a hate incident for asking questions?!

But none of these things are hate crimes mind you. No hate crime without an actual crime in the first place.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 15/11/2019 10:51

There's a (frankly terrifying) update on twitter.
twitter.com/WeAreFairCop/status/1195287091657228289?s=19

  1. The College of Policing say in their skeleton argument that ‘Trans women are not women’ is NOT a political statement but is rather de facto evidence of Hate. As is implying that women do not have beards.
  1. The CoP also take the position that an enquiry into whether a rape committed by a transwoman should be entered as a Male or Female crime is also not a relevant political question but is also a de facto signifier of Hate.
  1. The CoP state that any criticism of the Meraids CEO in relation to the transing of her child is de facto evidence of Hate. As is questioning the policy of transitioning children.

Bloody nora, spero, I didn't even notice that was you on the thread! Sorry! Must read threads more closely!

Thanks - bloody amazing work! Thanks

LangCleg · 07/11/2019 22:24

glad the podcast was informative!

Spero - it was really, really, really good. Do more!

Siameasy · 07/11/2019 21:42

Just watched the Julia Long video.

Outrageous.

I think for police officers one of the hardest things is that sometimes situations arise which are a civil matter (this was one, based on that video) and there is pressure from the public (in this case a big company, Accenture) to act. However, officers must be resilient, have integrity and knowledge of the law enough to say “we have no powers here and cannot act”.
It’s a huge ego dent for officers to admit they “have no powers”.

Similarly with reported incidents “yes that’s upsetting for you but it’s not a crime to be upset”. And it should end there.

My 10 cents

GirlDownUnder · 07/11/2019 21:36

Thanks for all the work you’re putting into this, and the reminder Brew

BoreOfWhabylon · 07/11/2019 21:23

Placemarking to listen later

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 07/11/2019 20:25

bumping this

CriticalCondition · 07/11/2019 19:15

I've just listened. It is excellent

A very clear explanation of how this case will not be a judgement on trans issues but on whether the police were lawful, rational and reasonable in the way they acted.

Because this is a democracy and it matters for everyone, trans or not, that the police should not be able to 'make it up as they go along.'

Spero · 07/11/2019 19:04

Plans for 20th is to meet at Temple Tube about 9am I think for 9.30 meet at RCJ. If its really crowded we will work out some rota for people who want to be in the court, hopefully some will be happy to wave a placard outside! Then we have a nearby venue for drinks and nibbles from about 4pm with some short speeches.

glad the podcast was informative! It was great fun, I wish I could give up my day job and just podcast all day long.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 07/11/2019 17:21

What is the timing on the 20th? I might be able to come along to the RCJ to lend support.
