The idea that you elect a representative to speak for your opinions is totally alien now. Public opinion is meaningless in politics, it's all about power and control.

I think I meant you get away with a lot in the little woke Twitter bubble that you wouldn't away with once it hits mainstream news outlets, and people start talking.
And yes, this particular incident is a bit niche, because the Trf insult isn't common currency outside Twitter, but once it's clearly explained as 'Labour candidate shares image of herself spraying bleach at female politician' then I guarantee you the people I chat with in shops and on buses would have a very clear opinion.*

Public view of politicans and public opinion have no status on current politics. People can talk all they like, as long as the person in question is in-line with the ideas of the state they will remain in their positions of power.

Labour in Scotland seem to be making very weird decisions. Earlier this week candidate Alex Tiffin admitted twice assaulting a pregnant woman.

In 2017 the charming Alex, a Scots Muslim, drunkenly caused a terror scare. He ended up in court over texts sent to a member of his mosque days after the London Bridge attack.

However a police investigation established no links to terror groups. A spokesperson said: “The conclusion has been that he was an idiot, not a terrorist.”

So that's all right then...

Labour in Scotland are a funny thing. I suspect it's a very different party than it is in other parts of the UK.

And of course she's protected her tweets. UUnable to handle all the perfectly polite, normal people questioning her horrible rhetoric, I expect.

Frances Carmel Hoole has protected her Tweets. She's also deleted her Tweet protesting about the "pile on".

Would I be right in thinking that it has been the local constituency party that selects these candidates? Does anyone know? If yes, that would explain it, I suppose, since they seem to mainly be filled with Momentum activists now.

That's not true though is it, it may have been, at some point many years ago, but now what you are seeing happen here IS real world politics.

It's worrying that this woman is a care worker. She should be kept away from vulnerable people who will need and request single-sex provision if her default reaction to politicians who defend the principle of sex-based rights is to threaten violence.

I saw Hoole's original tweet and she couldn't even spell the word "Tories" right (she spelt it "Tory's"). Joanna Cherry has more intelligence in her little finger than Hoole does in her entire dimwitted brain.

They keep putting these stupid children up. Why?

Hang on... Labour are putting up a (female) candidate who called women opposed to lap dancing clubs SWERFs, including a survivor of the Rotherham abuse scandal? I've watched Labour scrape the bottom of the barrel for several years now (used to be a Labour party member, left over this and antisemitism) but now they're bloody through the barrel and half way to Australia.

You're not defending women's rights unless you defend trans rights.

And what of men? Are they expected to defend trans people's rights too, or does the burden and responsibility of defending everyone else's rights fall only to women? At the expense, in general, of our own?

TerfTalk oh definitely. Reports to the police would have been made and pressure for immediate ousting from the party. All Joanna asked for was an apology.

After the disasters that were Jared O'Mara and Fiona Onasanya, I'd hoped that Labour would have done a bit more due diligence over who it selects to stand for Parliament. Apparently, they're doubling down on their policy of selecting ignorant, arrogant, woman-hating candidates.

How is this person still allowed to represent Labour?

Her apology is not only even more offensive, she also fails to adhere to her own identity politics which maintains that the decision over whether something is offensive or not depends only on the target's feelings in reaction and not on any objective criteria (her threat meets both of those tests).

“I didn't perceive this as a threat so I apologise I didn't see it that way.”

Unless the English language has lost all meaning, she's also not apologising for sending a threat to a competing candidate, but giving a metaphorical shrug of "well if you want to take offence, I can't stop you". (Which is a classic tool found in the extensive toolbox of any abuser).

Those in public life have a duty to act in accordance with the Nolan Principles of Selflessness, Integrity, Objectivity, Accountability, Openness, Honesty and Leadership. However, when it comes to the debates surrounding transgenderism, our elected officials seem to think that they are free to slander feminists with impunity.
