Just saw this on Twitter

twitter.com/AGPAwarenessDay/status/1181826260948996099?s=19

Not sure if it's been posted before. Comments on the post are mixed, people not sure if it's a genuine support day or a mean ol' parody account

The bar "at least they're not trans" is so low as to be at the bottom of ocean. Women do not have to be grateful for that concession.

Karabair · 26/10/2019 18:35

So they should just stop. They're disgusting. You sound like you're asking for women to have empathy for them rather than treating them as the woman-haters they are. If they want to stop, they can do it on their own time, women owe them nothing.

Shaming is an excellent social pressure when the activity is harmful to individuals and to society.

DuMondeB · 26/10/2019 18:32

It would be nice if AGPs had a way/place to reflect on it where they won’t be told it’s all completely normal (and that ‘cis women do it too’ 🙄) and that they should definitely and without question transition.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 26/10/2019 18:21

I think most autogynephiles don't want to stop

I don't disagree, but some do and are open about this. In the present climate where AGP is actively encouraged even those who do wish for an out find themselves pressured to carry on when societal pressure really ought to run the other way.

Karabair · 26/10/2019 17:40

Satire has always been a legitimate tool of the oppressed.

Karabair · 26/10/2019 17:39

I think most autogynephiles don't want to stop because they really really enjoy sexually objectifying women. It gives them orgasms after all.

The ones who do want to stop I'm sure completely understand how miosgynistic (woman-hating) autogynephilia is, and would be happy for its proponents and participants to be mocked to kingdom come by women protecting ourselves from this perversion.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 26/10/2019 17:35

There are men with AGP who would like help to stop and to ensure their fetish does not become all consuming. Awareness is useful for them.

And useful for all the women and children who need protecting from those AGP men who lack self awareness. Or the majority of the world's population as we are commonly known,.

Ths does seem more parody than useful awareness though, which is a pity, AGP is an important issue.

Karabair · 26/10/2019 17:24

"Men with that fetish do genuinely need support though! "

I hope you're joking, but men who sexually fetishise women need stopping not supporting. We're not props in men's wank fantasies. It's a disgusting view of women..

Up the awareness day for APG, up for being able to talk about it and men getting the support with it they want, and up with the general public realising why women would like private spaces please.

Precisely. No-one needs to take the piss, as those reply tweets are suggesting. It's real and can be damaging to the person as well as their family.

And from women's point of view, men with AGP need to be widely acknowledged to promote understanding of why women's spaces must be ring fenced.

NotTerfNorCis · 26/10/2019 16:45

Good, there needs to be more awareness of AGP. Luckily there's a lot of evidence for it.

I thought we weren't supposed to kink shame?

Is that because kinks are a mental illness?

Men with that fetish do genuinely need support though!

AGP men who are aware they have a fetish, and don't want to be pressured into identifying as trans probably could use a support network. Especially, younger guys who are questioning whether their fetish actually means they are trans, when identifying that way is likely not an optimal outcome for many of them. The "trans community" puts a lot of pressure on men showing signs of AGP to "crack" (see any trans sub on Reddit, such as egg_irl, for examples.)

If this AGP Awareness Day is an actual thing it's a good thing ,and I wish them well.

DuMondeB · 26/10/2019 15:54

It coincides with IMD, so it’s definitely a parody/critique!
