What is being taught in schools regarding transgender ideology?

Hi, is there a thread being kept to record what is being taught in schools in the U.K. Or elsewhere?

I saw this on Twitter. It's in a school in America. For 4th grade which is apparently 9 yrs old.

mobile.twitter.com/teacher2teacher/status/1186749900911869952

I just thought, kids are going to be confused. They are going to make children think they are transgender when they're not. Kids will go home from this lesson wondering and worrying if they are born wrong. That's going to lead to bad mental health. Next week how many will say they're transgender? Some may so joyfully because they've never fitted in, they've been gender non-conforming in some way. But changing to the opposite gender, or sex is not the answer. What does it mean "who you are , how you feel as a person"? Is that based on if I like something- a toy or item of clothing or how i play, if I "cry like a girl" like my dad tells me, or not, if I like glitter, pink, and princesses or not? If I like a flowery scarf but my dad said it was for girls? If I'm a girl but I like to play with the boys because they like playing outside like climbing trees and playing in mud? If I'm a boy but I don't like that? If I boy/girl like cars, dolls, dinosaurs, make up, dresses, dancing, rough play or not? Etc. Etc. And if people tell me "that's for girls!" Or " that's for boys"! Because that's how society conditioned them to think too. If I like some boy stuff and some girl stuff am I neither a boy or girl? What am i? Am I both? This is scary.
STOP THIS SEXIST HARMFUL NONSENSE. BREAK THE CYCLE. BOYS AND GIRLS CAN LIKE WHATEVER THEY WANT. THEY ARE STILL BOY OR GIRL AS THEY WERE BORN. Stop confusing children and leading them to a pathway of anxiety, misery, medication, surgery, sterility, suicide, by making them uncertain of who they are and making them think they were born wrong. You are introducing this stuff to any child you teach this to and confusing them. At school they should be taught to break stereotypes, we could do anything, boy or girl. Transgender or transsexual as we used to call it in UK used to be if someone had gender dysphoria which was severe distress or discomfort with their body being the sex it was, I heard stories of boys wanting to chop their penis off and insisting they were a girl, for reasons unknown or various, treatment was to alleviate this distress or discomfort and if necessary transition - meds/surgery, which if not last resort, was certainly not first resort. ( there was also transvestite or cross dresser who liked to dress up for fun or sexual fetish - I guess they've been amalgamated into "transgender", as have "masculine women", and "feminine men" according to stonewall transgender umbrella) ANYWAYS, What you are doing here is asking children to choose if they are a boy or girl based on how they feel, which can only be based on regressive gender stereotypes which our society attributed and conditioned to their sex. We can change that, by breaking the stereotypes..not by saying they need to change themselves. This is going to make children think they are transgender when they are not. Why can people not see they are causing more problem than solving. It's almost like someone or some company will be benefiting from this? Who stands to benefit or make money? Medical companies? Tech? Where did all this suddenly come from? Why are these philosophical theories being taught as fact to kids? Why this social engineering to keep kids in gender stereotype boxes?

I think this has a great video "course" on how to approach your child's school:

I am wary, rather than reassured by a school achieving a high ofsted rating

When I was flyering for FairPlay for Women I met a mother and daughter, the daughter was a recent university graduate. She told me that so far, the young women undergrads were resisting having their toilets turned ‘gender neutral’ but that the uni was determined to do it at some point, because without it they couldn’t get ‘Stonewall Champion’ status.

Pied Piper indeed, and a hefty dollop of Emperor's New Clothes with a touch of Little Red Riding Hood for good measure.

I'd rather small children were taught the age old lessons of these tales than 'euphemisms' about 'diversity'.

TrishTeres · 24/10/2019 11:12

Hi Arnold

The trouble is in some schools the avoidance of the "nuts and bolts" in favour of celebrating diversity. Like the Pied Piper. It's all "rainbows" and "pride" and other euphemisms .

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 24/10/2019 10:37

It is about arriving at an answer that the children understand about respect and equality but that we all make different life choices.

This is all very vague and fluffy and doesn't answer the question at hand.

Are schools or are schools not telling children the fact that they cannot ever change sex. That it isn't possible. That if anyone has told them different that person is wrong?

Nuffaluff · 24/10/2019 10:30

It’s kind of funny, the whole thing, except it really isn’t.

TrishTeres · 24/10/2019 10:29

What also really worries me is that the extremism of the "BTQ" is making the "LG" seem benign. This is not the case

" youth who begin experimenting with sexuality and same-sex attraction (SSA) are not being given sufficient information about the SSA lifestyle. The deliberate withholding of such information by medical and psychological professionals goes against the professional requirement to present medical and psychological risks of associated with certain behaviors. The intent of this article is to show, through research, that youth who engage in the SSA lifestyle are at-risk for a host of medical complications necessitating informed consent by professionals responsible for a given youth’s well-being. The failure to provide the information is a breach of ethics."

Loving your humour by the way Nuffaluff

It is definitely happening in primary. Equali-teach, Mermaids, Stonewall and all sorts of outside agencies being invited to primary schools. The schools that are all too eager to tick boxes for ofsted and ignore parents justified fears for their children's wellbeing. I am wary, rather than reassured by a school achieving a high ofsted rating.

Nuffaluff · 24/10/2019 09:39

You answer the question a child genuinely asks. You might say what do you think, and might get several answers. It is about arriving at an answer that the children understand about respect and equality but that we all make different life choices.
You see, this is the thing that would bother me as a teacher.
-Miss, can you actually turn from a boy into a girl then?
-Erm (shit, what should I say, I might get the sack if I say the wrong thing). What do you think Gemma?
-Yeah Miss, I think you can. I’ve seen it on YouTube so it must be true.
-Well, Gemma, I’m afraid we can’t believe everything we see on YouTube. In fact (oh, fuck it), it’s a scientific impossibility to actually change from a boy into a girl or vice versa. No matter what you do, whether you wear a skirt, makeup or make physical changes to your body, you’ll still remain your original sex. It’s something we’ve all known forever.
(Awaits being reported for wrongthink, and dressing down in Head’s office).
I’m primary, so it probably won’t happen to me, unless I get a transgender child in my class at some point. It’s no doubt a possibility for secondary teachers.

Thank you Pencils in Space and other contribtors for the links and info and also to person who posted this important discussion topic. Flowers

You might like to do some research into No Outsiders and take a look at some of the lesson plans.

I know 3 people with kids at primary schools who use 'no outsiders'. No mention of trans at all. Kids are in Reception, year 3, 5 and 6. Some of the parents would complain if their kids were told they could change sex, 1 has become very GC and made a point of asking to view all the material used in these lessons. Does 'no outsiders' get used at secondary school? Maybe they mention it there.

cabbageking · 23/10/2019 23:36

It is about provision for your specific cohort aimed at their understanding.
Year 6 class one year may be very young and not ask searching questions. Another Year 5 class may have questions that need answering.

You answer the question a child genuinely asks. You might say what do you think, and might get several answers. It is about arriving at an answer that the children understand about respect and equality but that we all make different life choices.

Equality & Diversity policy 'red flags':

  1. ONLY CITING LOBBY GROUPS AS A SOURCE OF EXPERTISE
  2. REFERRING TO ‘GENDER’ AS A PROTECTED CHARACTERISTIC
  3. NOT MENTIONING EQUALITY IMPACT ASSESSMENTS
  4. ADVOCATING CONFIDENTIALITY FOR TRANSGENDER PUPILS
  5. PROMOTING MIXED-SEX OR ‘GENDER NEUTRAL’ TOILETS
  6. USING EMOTIVE SUICIDE STATISTICS TO PUT PRESSURE ON SCHOOLS
  7. SUGGESTING THAT ALL GENDER NONCONFORMITY INDICATES A CHILD IS TRANS
  8. MAKING SCIENTIFICALLY INACCURATE ASSERTIONS REGARDING BIOLOGY
  9. DELIVERING SESSIONS TO PUPILS WITHOUT SCHOOL STAFF PRESENT
10. NEGLECTING TO DISCLOSE THE NEGATIVE SIDE EFFECTS OF TRANSITION
LangCleg · 23/10/2019 23:22

The focus is more on relationships and keeping safe to encourage discussion.

You might like to do some research into No Outsiders and take a look at some of the lesson plans. Pencils left a helpful link above.

OldCrone · 23/10/2019 23:19

If someone asked a question about changing sex then you discern what is appropriate and if some adjustment is needed to the next lessons.

They don't just tell them that it's impossible then?

cabbageking · 23/10/2019 23:17

Not really in primary.

They are taught it is ok to be different. The focus is more on relationships and keeping safe to encourage discussion. If someone asked a question about changing sex then you discern what is appropriate and if some adjustment is needed to the next lessons.
It would depend on that cohort. Every thing is quite broad.

OldCrone · 23/10/2019 23:01

No problem with any of that cabbageking, but are they also taught that they can change sex?

cabbageking · 23/10/2019 22:54

Primary children are taught people are the same and yet different.
Colour of hair, skin, beliefs etc in broad sense.

Families are different. Some live with grand parents, some just one parent, some are extended.

Everyone deserves respect and should be treated equality.

The focus is on what is a good relationship and a not so good relationship, be it friendships, marriages, peer pressure or bullying.

The curriculum is about safeguarding more than sex.

I swear, some posters have multiple eyes and multiple screens like Sherlock in Elementary 😂

I haven't seen those threads but have realised I saw a word earlier that I didNt understand....I nearly asked what it meant but didn't because I feared looking like an idiot. Now I think it might be the reason for the post going so I could have been barred for asking a genuine question!

HandsOffMyRights · 23/10/2019 22:41

Posters aren't always getting notice of the deletions from MN as per the guidelines.

HandsOffMyRights · 23/10/2019 22:39

There's mention of it on the Little Brown Dog MIA thread. The Always thread also has a number of deletions for using a traditional word for a male (rhymes with baddie). I'm repeating this as it seems to be ruthless today.

AutumnRose1 · 23/10/2019 22:35

Wait, what? As in banned?

HandsOffMyRights · 23/10/2019 22:30

I think Fekko's been permanently penalised due to this thread...

PencilsInSpace · 23/10/2019 22:24

The problem in the UK at the moment is that this is being framed as a battle between religious parents (especially muslims) and enlightened educators keen to redress the damage of s28.

We need to change this narrative because there are lots of very solid reasons - child safeguarding, women and girls' rights, LGB rights etc. - to resist what's happening in schools. Reasons that have nothing to do with religion, homophobia, right wing bla bla.

Also, enlightened educators are so frightened of repeating the past that they have allowed themselves to be captured by queer theory which is a million miles away from 'some children have two mums'.
