Today I looked up glinner

Because I don't look at Twitter all that often. I look up glinner to see what he's been writing lately. I found a few accounts mentioning him in their username, looked at one and the description was as you would expect, pronouns and all that jazz. Clicked on the tweets tab (I use a third party app, not the official app) and lo and behold I've been blocked. I have never written anything remotely GC on Twitter, in fact my tweets are private, but I've been blocked presumably sheerly on the basis of following glinner. I know this is no real news to any of you who are actively GC on here or twitter but it's insane, is it not? Blocked by virtue of whom I follow when I've written nothing. It's as if they can't hack even the possibility of criticism eh?

I’m sure some very popular and famous big hitters like Obama follows Glinner, wonder if he’s been put on Some dweebs post these famous “followers” and harangue them to unfollow glinner.

DryHeave · 20/10/2019 07:00

TERF blocker must be based on follows.

I’ve never written, liked or RTed anything GC - it must include if someone follows user A + user B.

GrimDamnFanjo · 20/10/2019 01:06

It's all a bit silly as you can see someone's tweets if you don't log in to your account...

PancakeAndKeith · 19/10/2019 23:40

Oooh. I’m on terfblocker.
The funny thing is that I’ve been chatting to Glinner on their for decades when no other bugger was about.

SirVixofVixHall · 19/10/2019 23:31

There are other blocklists, it isn’t just terfblocker. Quite possibly you have been put on a different list.
Can you see tweets by lily madigan ? Have a look at some leading tra’s feeds and see if they are visible to you.

nettie434 · 19/10/2019 22:46

I can only assume that there is either another thing with the same function or the twitter user in question did trawl through glinner's followers and block anyone whom she hadn't already yet blocked.

That's what I think happens mintyroller. I have seen some tweets from people saying they will block anyone liking, retweeting or replying to a particular tweet or following the tweeter. I got blocked by quite a few individuals before achieving Terfblocked status.

Please don't feel intimidated posting here, mintyroller. Yes there are the Feminist Chat Goddesses but there's also lots of us who just like being able to comment or ask questions on things that are not discussed properly elsewhere.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 19/10/2019 22:28

I managed to fly under the radar by not following anyone....

Until McKinnon must have looked at the likes on anti cyclopath tweets. Imagine your life's that empty that you have time to do that. 🙄

mintyroller · 19/10/2019 22:23

Sorry I haven't come back to this afore now. I'm a wee bit intimidated to be posting on this board to be honest! I looked at terfblocker and I'm not on there so I can only assume that there is either another thing with the same function or the twitter user in question did trawl through glinner's followers and block anyone whom she hadn't already yet blocked.

slug OP was saying she is on terfblocker for following I think, not that glinner uses it.

I find the fact that tweets become visible or not depending on who you are, even more sinister than all the blocklists. So one can read a “debate” and feel completely outnumbered by people in favour of x, while all the people who posted against x have had their responses hidden from you.

nettie434 · 19/10/2019 09:46

I am now on terfblocker, which I think is fairly recent. I got blocked by a few other people who I think also manually block anyone who replies or retweets someone tervish.

This was the thread about deboosting a while back:

PeterRouseTheFleshofMankind · 19/10/2019 09:29

Michelle Obama is on the Terfblocker list? Oh that is brilliant! 😂

slug · 19/10/2019 09:25

He doesn't use a TERF blocker at all. In the height of the twitter storm over his gender critical dance he locked his Twitter account to only those who follow him.

I'm on multiple terf block lists. I can't see anything from our favourite Jimmy Saville impersonator for example. But because I followed glinner before he came out as gender critical I can still see his tweets. He's pretty much retired from twitter these days, only really talking about Motherland

Verastsnhope · 19/10/2019 07:59

I’m on a few lists. I thought I wasn’t then another GC feminist sent me screenshots of my Twitter page on them. Threatening to doxx me etc. Not that I’m bothered. My real picture name and general location are on there anyway.

SirVixofVixHall · 18/10/2019 13:02

I have also been put in terfblocker because of who I follow.

Amee Challenor and child-rapist Dad set up terfblocker did they not ?

lassupthebrew · 18/10/2019 12:56

This same blocking procedure works against some sane old school transsexuals who speak out on Twitter. They are blocked without ever interacting with individuals.

Public trans activists seem to use this tactic. Even India Willoughby, for instance, despite supporting Piers Morgan this week, has blocked other transsexuals who oppose self ID and trans women are women mantra. Presumably simply by way of a list.

This makes discussion on Twitter very unbalanced, especially as transsexuals also get mass reported for 'transphobia' (as in not following TRA demands).

Transsexuals who transitioned surgically decades ago get blocked and even banned from Twitter by mass reporting via spotty youths who transitioned last week just by declaring their new mandatory pronouns.

Aside from being Monty Python like ridiculous this is clearly intended to control the debate.

So much of which comes over as driven by male anger and privilege. Certainly not willingness to openly discuss serious issues.

DaveMyHat · 18/10/2019 12:33

I switch to incognito mode nowadays if I really want to read something

DaveMyHat · 18/10/2019 12:33

I think if you like or retweet the "wrong" tweets or follow the "wrong" people you get listed as a terf and swerf by association. I was blocked by a bunch of people I'd never heard of a long time ago and I mostly just like and retweet stuff. It is annoying when the thread you're reading is full of holes.

NotTerfNorCis · 18/10/2019 07:42

people choosing who to talk and listen to.

It's just as much about not allowing the other person to read your tweets. You can mute people you don't want to listen to, without the offensiveness of blocking them.

DuMondeB · 18/10/2019 07:41

I’ve never tweeted anything GC either (I barely use twitter at all) but one day I clicked on a Mumsnet link to Jess Bradley’s profile and found I was blocked 🤷‍♀️

It’s McCarthyism 2019 edition - guilt by association is now guilt by who you follow on Twitter (see the JK Rowling-Magdalen Berns episode as an example).

AlphaNumericalSequence · 18/10/2019 07:32

It isn't book burning or disallowing speech. It is just people choosing who to talk and listen to. Not particularly constructive, but only an exaggeration of the bubble effect that Twitter creates for all of us.

I do follow Glinner, and like and retweet his posts from time to time. I also sometimes tweet GC stuff. I'm not aware of having been blocked by anyone. I'm not sure how I would find out unless I actively jumped into the TRA Twitterpool to see whose tweets I could see!

I tweeted something GC the other day that got a lot of attention (by my feeble standards) from both approvers and disapprovers of it.

All the disapproving comments to my tweet were more or less civilised. It's important not to get so hung up on the ugly extremes that we forget the mass of people that disagree in a more normal way.

NotTerfNorCis · 18/10/2019 06:53

I never tweet anything GC with my main Twitter account, but I do follow some GC feminists including Glinner. I'm blocked by a load of people I've never heard of. Occasionally someone I have heard of (like Transgiant) will block me despite me never once having interacted with them. It's all a bit strange, and reflects their militant, cultlike thinking.

AlphaNumericalSequence · 18/10/2019 06:52

Does it really matter if they block you? It isn't as if anyone sees the light as a result of reading the tweets of someone they disagree with. Most Twitter users just get angry and self-righteous when confronted with the views of people outside their bubble.
If TRAs choose to sanitise their timeline by blocking those who disagree with them then, meh, lower blood pressure all round. Social media interactions have only ever made the conflicts around transgender more severe not less.

NeurotrashWarrior · 18/10/2019 06:48

Can someone explain deboosted please; I've tried and failed to get that concept.

I put my twitter into some sort of check page and it didn't recognise it as a twitter Confused

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 18/10/2019 06:40

I've lost the screenshot but terfblocker has said that if you even follow a 'terf' on their list then you're liable to be blocked.
Presumably that means that once they block you, all your followers are liable to be blocked, then their followers and so on.
Won't be long before everyone on twitter is blocked.

MrsTerryPratchett · 18/10/2019 03:22

It does have shades of book burning. Disallowing incorrect speech and thought.
