Oops, definitely didn't mean to leave TM off! Thanks for correcting my list. Don't agree with some of her politics but having a woman in charge of the country is indeed inspiring!

kulaexchange · 18/10/2019 05:28

Comfort Momoh - a midwife who specialises in treating women who have experienced FGM.

kulaexchange · 18/10/2019 05:20

Jasmine Paris the lady that won a 268 ultra marathon whilst breastfeeding her baby

kulaexchange · 18/10/2019 05:16

The Queen - for similar reasons to Teressa May. It doesn't matter if you agree with the Royal family. When Teressa May was the PM I could tell my five year old DD that the two people in charge of the country were women and that's empowering.

kulaexchange · 18/10/2019 05:12

Sara Rowbothem - the social worker who exposed the Rochdale Abuse scandal

Hullabalooo · 18/10/2019 03:55

Ruth Serwotka for setting up Women's Place UK and Nic Williams for the Fair play for women campaign.

Also Sharron Davies for being so vocal about keeping women's sport female.

Clunchee · 17/10/2019 23:55

Jacinda Ardern - New Zealand PM.

Michele Moore and Kathleen Stock - for services to feminism and women's rights.

Alison Moyet and Amanda Abbington - for being bad-ass female role models.

GroggyLegs · 17/10/2019 23:47

My vote is for Nicky Spinks - at 51 she set the record for running the Ramsey Round twice (116 miles of fell running).

First person, not first woman. And she's beaten cancer too.

She is awesome.

ALittleBitofVitriol · 17/10/2019 23:42

Jane Clare Jones?

zebrasdontwearbras · 17/10/2019 23:37

Linda Bellos and Venice Allen should be on there too - for seeing off an outrageous private prosecution by 'Guiliana London' and wearing Suffragette colours in court Smile

I'll second Justine - I'm critical of the extra special mod rules for trans issues here - by my god, Justine continues to allow the discussion here, despite unbelievable pressure form TRAs.

I would also add Heather Brunksell Evans - co author of the book "Born n Your Own Body" - who works hard researching and speaking about "the trans child" in a thoughtful and intelligent way.

She was expelled from the Women's Equality Party for her stance on this, and has been harassed by TRAs wherever she goes. A brave and intelligent woman.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 17/10/2019 23:18

Justine. For allowing the discussion.

While agreeing that a male shouldn't be in a women's awards list (or prison), it's appalling that Ayub was jailed for the 'crime' of wearing 'women's attire

To be clear, the Malaysian Supreme Court rules that this law was illegal in 2014 and it is hence void.

However Malaysian courts upheld the punishment of whipping for attempted lesbianism in 2018 and the women were publicly caned before 100 spectators.

Obviously the BBC are more concerned about men's rights to wear what they want (which in fact they now can) then actual women being caned.

Same old BBC shit

The pool of names was then assessed against this year's theme - the Female Future - and measured for regional representation and due impartiality, before the final 100 were chosen.

The future is Male.

NeurotrashWarrior · 16/10/2019 18:50

From climate change activist Greta Thunberg, to trans woman Nisha Ayub who was put into a male prison aged 21, many on the list are driving change on behalf of women everywhere. They give us their vision of what life could look like in 2030.

Erm...

ChickenNuggetsChipsAndBeans · 16/10/2019 17:03

I agree about Theresa May and Gretta Thunburg.

I know her views are not universally popular but I would add Margaret Atwood.

Mumfun · 16/10/2019 16:54

Definitely Jasmin Paris. She is astonishing.

Some of the other women on the BBC list deserve it like AOC who is also astonishing.

Hadnt heard of Marilyn Waring before but shes been very important in feminist economics and in being instrumental in NZ nuclear free policy

Vandana Shiva has been really inspiring in environmentalism in India

Several of the other BBC 100 women look great but might need a bit more study to assess their impact

Think your list may be a little UK oriented. Or do a UK one and an international one.
