Can we take a moment to appreciate Piers Morgan

If anyone watches GMB, you will see that Piers Morgan is trying to advocate for women by challenging trans issues - in sport and awards ceremonies etc.

There is a petition to have him fired for being 'transphobic' yet he is quite courageous is saying he is not in agreement about the rights of transitioners to go into sport, to cancel the female category at awards ceremonies.

Although he seems a bit conflicting about how he actually deals with trans people in general, I for one, appreciate his courage to continue to talk about these issues. Especially on such a big platform.

People are aware of the Karen white issue because it was all over the tabloids..

People probably assume it’s statistically very rare. Which it is.

Are you deliberately missing the point? There is no mechanism that excludes sex offending transwomen from female prisons. The offence isn't an excluding criteria.

The mechanism needs abandoning. Transwomen should be excluded from a female prison on the basis of their sex not being female.

Over 60% of female inmates have suffered domestic abuse. The women are the focus here. Wondering what is in the head of the man in the next cell is utterly irrelevant to them.

The problem I have is that when people like PM JHB KH etc get involved in this issue, it DOES stir up a lot of transphobia and hate towards trans people.

This was predicted over and over. The widening of the trans umbrella to include middle aged cross dressers and the homophobic insanity of ignoring sex made it inevitable. It was Stonewall who threw gay men, lesbians and transsexuals under the bus not journalists or radio broadcasters.

Piers Morgan is left leaning. Not radical left, but left.

Nonsense.

FiddlesticksAkimbo · 15/10/2019 21:38

He's awful. I'd guess there are plenty of nasty right-wing bigots who'd be delighted to have a go at all sorts of "unnatural practices". Pretty obviously you should be having nothing to do with them either.

midcenturylegs · 15/10/2019 20:58

Btw that's not bigotry. It's looking at the differences in this particular game (smaller ball, shorter boundaries, average bowling speed (yes I've given it away) 30km less for the women's game). The former 2 in place for a physical reason and this game is dangerous enough with natal females playing.

midcenturylegs · 15/10/2019 20:55

Reading Piers' hate mail on Twitter. Sigh. @SimonJT (hi from that 'other' thread) - never mind his usual mostly awful journalism actually he is sticking up for women here. Speaking as a Mum whose daughter is training for a sports team at semi-pro level and that club now consisting of a trans women (who plays in the men's team too btw, and poorly, yet her results in the women's game outstanding). Women have worked so bloody hard to turn their sports around and now are losing their places to men who did not transition before puberty. The women playing against her when she chooses to play as a woman are scared of her. I will not let my DD play sport in a team with trans women. And nor would she want to.

JellyfishAndShells · 15/10/2019 18:42

I do applaud his stance on this. This 'oh, no-one who doesn't fit in with a particular political/social/demographic viewpoint is worthy of agreeing with and expressing our view' is dangerously shortsighted. You may not like him but he does have a huge mainstream audience and it is precisely those people who need to understand what has been going on - not other members of the echo chamber.

Ereshkigal · 15/10/2019 18:32

People probably assume it’s statistically very rare. Which it is.

What's statistically rare? A male rapist?

Fieldofgreycorn · 15/10/2019 16:51

Yes quite. But most of the ‘acceptable’ ones in public eye seem to have eg India, Maloney etc. Even Paris and MB I bet most women expect them to be using female spaces and we don’t know their surgery status exactly.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 15/10/2019 16:51

How do those stats compare to black women? Or to other males?

Black XY trans people in the US are murdered at a lower rate the men generally, and a much lower rate than black men in particular.

I am not sure how the murder rate for black XY trans people in the US compares to women but I'm pretty sure the murder rate for all XY trans people in the US is lower than for women in the US.

XY trans people are the safest of all male demographics in the US when it comes to the statistical chance of being murdered regardless of skin colour.

(I am aware regulars know all this but choose to reiterate for lurkers who may have been taken in by the lies and hyperbole of trans privilege activists)

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 15/10/2019 16:42

(Just to clarify, I think gender is an identity, a social construct and separate from biological sex, so it certainly can be a spectrum and people can interpret their own or other's identity how they like, so people saying that there are only two genders DUH are getting mixed up with sex and are trying to impose their views on other people. And are probably using it as a front for taking the piss.)

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 15/10/2019 16:39

No?

MockersthefeMANist · 15/10/2019 16:37

'there are only two genders DUH'

Now do you see what you did, there?

Fuma · 15/10/2019 16:36

H

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 15/10/2019 16:33

The problem I have is that when people like PM JHB KH etc get involved in this issue, it DOES stir up a lot of transphobia and hate towards trans people. So it becomes very difficult to separate the discussion about defending women's rights and giving children adequate support and help, from the 'ugh man-in-a-dress' 'there are only two genders DUH' comments.
It stirs up a hornets nest which is painful for a lot of people and could well embolden many male followers of PM to be just that little bit more sexist, misogynistic and yes, transphobic.
But PM's stance on gun control is a great one for a ready response to 'if you share the views of someone from the far right perhaps it's time yiu change your views' inane challenges.

NotTerfNorCis · 15/10/2019 16:33

I want to also bring to your attention the prevalent deaths of many black transgender women in the US

LangCleg · 15/10/2019 16:20

But don’t you also think most people have genuine sympathy for transsexuals and won’t throw them under the bus?

Possibly. But most people also don't know that 95% of trans XYs are fully intact males.

If you did a women's spaces poll and replace the word "transwoman" with "male cross dresser" - what results do you think you would get?

LikeothersIamjustme · 15/10/2019 15:35

Yes. But don’t you also think most people have genuine sympathy for transsexuals and won’t throw them under the bus?
I agree. But I also think most people assume that they have undergone a full surgical transition or are in the process of doing so. I suspect there would be less sympathy for those with no intention to.

RoyalCorgi · 15/10/2019 15:35

Jolyon Maughm seems to fit the bill

There is something quite comedic about someone like Maugham telling a trans woman that she's wrong about trans issues.

HorsewithnoRegretsNonJeNeRegre · 15/10/2019 15:32

I know the man's name obviously. But as someone who never reads tabloids or has itv on (can't stand ads) could somebody take a minute to explain why some here hate him so much?

I've not read all the replies so if somebody has already done that on here then sorry which post was that then?

Fieldofgreycorn · 15/10/2019 15:30

Fieldofgreycorn · 15/10/2019 15:27

Gender as a harmful set of stereotypical behaviours is something that a lot of people haven't thought about.

Yes. But don’t you also think most people have genuine sympathy for transsexuals and won’t throw them under the bus?

LikeothersIamjustme · 15/10/2019 15:22

I cant find the trwitter poll but there is a link to a Change.org petition....(am I correct in assuming the statistics cannot be backed up?)
"Before I begin, I’d like to provide you with some statistics regarding transgender people, specifically young transgender people (who are arguably more vulnerable), in the UK. Did you know that, as detailed by Stonewall, 83% of young trans people have experienced verbal abuse, 60% have experienced threats and intimidation, and 35% have experienced physical assault (more than one in five, a staggering number)?

That’s not to mention how 55% of transgender people have experienced negative comments and 25% have been actively discriminated against in the workplace, and a horrifying 44% of transgender people are too afraid to come out as their true selves at work for fear of facing these unwarranted repercussions.

In turn, 48% (nearly half) of transgender people have actually attempted to commit suicide. 84% have thought about it, and 55% have suffered or are currently suffering from depression. 54% of transgender people have sought help, only to be told by their doctor that they aren’t well informed enough about trans-related care to do anything about it.

That’s only in this country. I want to also bring to your attention the prevalent deaths of many black transgender women in the US — as many as 18 have been recorded this year alone. Currently, in Mexico, tensions are rising as law enforcement refuses to punish those who abuse and/or murder transgender people."

AryaStarkWolf · 15/10/2019 15:13

anyone know what the vote is at right now? I can't view the Poll without a Twitter account

MrsSnippyPants · 15/10/2019 14:07

I imagine, also, that you would have to be one hell of a raging, frothing misogynist to truly not grasp the insanity of trans ideology. Anyone with an ounce of intelligence, or self analysis, would be aghast at how the public is being duped.

Jolyon Maughm seems to fit the bill

I'm not convinced most people are aware of it either.

I can't help feeling that if men had been disproportionately and adversely affected, rather than women and girls, searching questions would have been asked a whole lot sooner.
