I think I will challenge this notice seen at local hospital

I saw this in the adolescent (includes under 16s) waiting room when attending a regular clinic this morning.
I mentioned it to the consultant (not his area) who suggested I email and he would pass it on, but hadn't looked at it properly himself.

I want to keep it very short and don't want to affect DS's care or the attitude of the staff towards me.

I thought I would challenge the use of "assigned at birth" and the sex chart being inappropriate (and daft)

Very good point, @WannabeGlamper

Gingerkittykat · 08/10/2019 17:34

Yes, go to the chief executive and anybody else in the hierarchy.

I would also consider putting it all over social media and sending it to the local newspapers.

If you go back for a follow up appointment it would be a shame if the poster would be taken down.

I'm also assuming the penis sex for lesbians includes male lesbians.

SleepyKat · 08/10/2019 17:31

Doctors don’t have time to read posters in waiting rooms.

I imagine the hospital has a delightfully woke LGBTQ+ person who is given a day off a week from doing actual vital NHS work and instead is encouraged to spend their time putting shit posters like this up as well.

And also spends their time trying to get the word “woman” removed from all maternity and gynae leaflets and guidelines.

Our local hospital has one and I’ve had more than one arguement over this when they’ve tried telling me that men can get pregnant.

WannabeGlamper · 08/10/2019 17:30

I also think that the use of words such as boy / girl alongside anal sex if pretty disgusting - surely boy / girl refers to children

TumblingTumbleWeeds · 08/10/2019 17:29

Walk in as if you are on official business and take it down.

RueCambon · 08/10/2019 17:28

What. The. Hell?!

NameChangeOctober · 08/10/2019 17:28

Thanks all. I’m going to try and keep it short to start with and see what happens. Your input is so helpful as I hadn’t thought of a couple of the points you’ve made.

Somebody slipped up with the ABC poster.

It references gay as being "same sex" attraction.

GothMummy · 08/10/2019 17:25

That's really inappropriate and I honestly don't don't understand what they are trying to say.

listsandbudgets · 08/10/2019 17:21

Makes a lovely distraction for waiting 14 year old child and parents!! A nice educational discussion regarding group sex with sex toys with a nice bolt of anal sex thrown in..

I would be furious if my dd was reading this while waiting for an appointment . Inappropriate is ot the word

DryHeave · 08/10/2019 17:18

A boy and a girl having a cuddle is gay sex?

What does more than 2 mean? A threesome? Or more than 2 of the acts in conjunction?

Bezalelle · 08/10/2019 17:16

Maybe they've reverted back to the traditional meaning of "gay"?

ScrimshawTheSecond · 08/10/2019 17:03

Was this genuinely put up by NHS staff? It looks to me like someone may have brought in a laminated poster of bizarre nonsense and pinned it on the noticeboard.

So, I would question if this is genuine NHS guidance. If it is ... I don't know what to say. Then I suppose I would take it further and question the rationality of this 'information'.

FWRLurker · 08/10/2019 16:56

Seriously that gay sex poster is absolutely gay erasure 100%

Imagine you’re a confused 13 year old boy who absolutely knows you are gay. And you are TERRIFIED but also desperately in need of information.

You’ve heard homophobic bullies at school winding each other up about what gay guys do to each other sexually probably involving discussion of varsity acts like fisting, discussions of poo etc.

So you drop by the doc and see this poster and it is telling you that if you have vaginal sex with a woman or kiss her that means you’re having gay sex. What are you supposed to do with that information? How is that supposed to be helpful?

Kids need to be taught that sex is anything that is mutually pleasurable and consented to. Sex should be joyful and no sex act is “the one”. However They do NOT need to be told that their sexual orientation does not exist / is a fashion statement for quirky straight people.

KatyCarrCan · 08/10/2019 16:53

Not to repeat what everyone else has said, but the gay sex poster makes no sense and the definition of gender uses the word gender ffs.
You can complain assuming that they've been put up in error. Firstly they shouldn't be in a clinic where under-age children can see them. Secondly the gay sex poster makes no sense. Thirdly, the definitions are circuitous.

LonginesPrime · 08/10/2019 16:53

This was in an NHS hospital? And a doctor /medical practitioner hadn't noticed that there is a poster saying there are more than two sexes?

I spend a lot of time in NHS hospitals and have never seen a doctor casually browsing the notice boards in a waiting room full of patients!

NameChangeOctober · 08/10/2019 16:43

It's all so complicated it crumbles under its own weight - the sex chart makes no sense and neither do all the definitions on the ABC chart

NameChangeOctober · 08/10/2019 16:42

I have removed mermaids propaganda from there before, but it's too public for me to start defacing or removing.

Do you really think I should go to the chief exec? I don't know the correct channels and was thinking of trying to find them, but the chief exec might listen particularly since the Tavistock hit the headlines.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 08/10/2019 16:40

Does this stuff remind anyone else of astrology?Complicated with lots of rules, and plenty of pseudoscience behind it.
With the exception of course, that Aries and Virgos etc aren't all out there asking for their sign to go on their birth certificates or giving children hormones to try make their bodies fit their sign.

SarahTancredi · 08/10/2019 16:38

So given gay sex means no pregnancy wtf do they think is gonna happen.

Just shove up a.safe sex poster and say where they can make an appointment for birth control ffs

HotChocolateLover · 08/10/2019 16:37

@NameChangeOctober Surely they’d use a strap on to have penis sex?

FlyingSquid · 08/10/2019 16:37

WTF: 'Bisexual = attracted to two genders, heterosexual = attracted to opposite gender, homosexual = attracted to same gender'

It doesn't mean that. Confused

And I thought MSM was mainstream media. I'm sure I'm not the only one who could get into some very muddled sentences there.

Soubriquet · 08/10/2019 16:36

I would ask if a boy and girl having gay sex could get pregnant Hmm

HairyDogsOfThigh · 08/10/2019 16:36

When did girl and boy having sex (or a cuddle) become gay sex?
Also, "more than just male and female", nope, I don't think so. We have xy chromosomes (male) and xx chromosomes, (female) , no other combinations that i know of. We can certainly choose our gender, but we can't change our sex.

Woofsaidtheladybird · 08/10/2019 16:36

Good grief.

I'd take it down if it was me.

And take it to the Chief Executive and complain
