Sauron. Not batshit at all..... Hmm

Of those two lesbians I'd be interested to know if either is female, as I doubt a female calling herself lesbian at the BBC would be able to stay very long.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 07/10/2019 21:33

The penises covered it:

Apparently, he's "at it again", which is a surprising headline given he's not been at it before. The comments are full of the reasonable debate we have come to expect from trans activists.

Yes, John Humphreys is absolutely totally like Sauron. How could we have missed that all this time! So incredibly rational!

I'm not a John Humphrys fan, let alone a Daily Telegraph fan, but I'm glad it's on the front pages and will, possibly, be a talking point for people.

John Humphries did a 30min slot rrom 8.30 to 9am on Today about the transgender debate/identity politics which ended with words to the effect that it was the future and we had to get used to it.

I have spent a fruitless morning looking back at threads from FWR to find a thread on it - I am sure there was one because it was at a time when there were live threads following any mention on the BBC - but nada.

Tyrotoxicity · 07/10/2019 13:17

"I will add that I’ve never put any trans woman on alongside some horrifc TERF. I vetoed it , in fact".

"I will add that I've never put any trans woman on alongside some horrific woman who says things I don't like. I vetoed it, in fact."

(Missed that game the first time round; it really does aid clarity of meaning, doesn't it?)

Popchyk · 07/10/2019 13:08

143 people in the Commissioning Department according to the BBC Equality Report above.

4.1% identifying as transgender. That makes 6 people identifying as transgender.

6.3% gay men. That makes 9 gay men in total in the department.

1.4% lesbians. That makes 2 lesbians in the department.

Ereshkigal · 07/10/2019 11:45

I used to work in commissioning at the BBC. It's a very small team, so 4.8% probably equates to 1 person.

Thanks, that's a great point.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 07/10/2019 11:42

It feels like they don’t want me

They've never wanted you, They've always wanted your money.

Popchyk · 07/10/2019 11:03

I get the impression that Stephen Nolan is not a True Believer.

He was the one who hosted the initial discussion with McKinnon.

And then Nolan said on air the next week that McKinnon had refused to appear with Williams. He said it several times, thus sinking the BBC official line of "Williams chose not to appear".

It seemed deliberate at the time. A refusal to collude in the lie. Good on him.

The debate went ahead with 3 biological males agreeing that there were no issues with males competing in women's events

A particular fucking low

And then the BBC lied and said that Williams had herself chosen not to appear. Bare face lied about it

There’s so much I love about the BBC but I just don’t recognise it at the moment. It feels like they don’t want me

Popchyk · 07/10/2019 10:12

Remember when McKinnon refused to go on Five Live with Nic Williams of Fair Play for Women? The BBC allowed McKinnon to veto her. The debate went ahead with 3 biological males agreeing that there were no issues with males competing in women's events.

And then the BBC lied and said that Williams had herself chosen not to appear. Bare face lied about it.

These are not isolated incidents. There is a clear strategy from the top of pushing support for self-ID and denying the impact on women and children.

That is completely unacceptable in what is supposed to be a national broadcaster.

Popchyk · 07/10/2019 09:57

Here's the duty editor and producer of the Today programme (which Humphreys presented for 32 years).

"I will add that I’ve never put any trans woman on alongside some horrifc TERF. I vetoed it , in fact".

Thing is if the BBC wants to push a particular ideology, then:

a) they have to be absolutely honest about it
b) they cannot expect others who don't share their views to fork over £154 per year

ignatiusjreilly · 07/10/2019 09:44

Justhadathought · 07/10/2019 09:36

The BBC should stop being crap at it on trans issues

Liberal media such as the BBC/The Guardian/The Independent are being held hostage by a gay male & transgender mafia. It's interesting to hear from employees once they are freed from that tyranny.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 07/10/2019 09:25

I’ve not got a lot of time for Humphries generally, but very pleased to see him speaking out about this

Journalism is important. The BBC should stop being crap at it on trans issues

Justhadathought · 07/10/2019 08:25

I don't particularly want to be on the same 'side' as John Humphrys and if that's really his analysis it's pretty shallow (most TRAs now say the 'born in the wrong body's stuff is just a phrase to help others understand the experience of being trans), bar the need for true neutrality at the BBC. It should be perfectly possible for transgender journalists to be neutral on this topic

Surely it is not about 'taking sides' but simply that you share the same view as some people on some things. Life is not B&W; it's complex and comes in all shades and tones.

It strikes me that the trans 'community' keeps changing its tune, in order to keep up with the pace of revelation about the implications of this ideology. So, now, we are presented with 'non-binary', and being told that 'being born in the wrong body' is just an analogy, and that you're not really trans unless you've had the full surgery.

Can't wait for this fad to be over.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 07/10/2019 08:15

‘marginalised groups‘ what real lesbians?

nauticant · 07/10/2019 08:12

It should be perfectly possible for transgender journalists to be neutral on this topic.

You'd hope so wouldn't you? However, this is how things actually go at the BBC:

Humphrys went on to criticise remarks by Ben Hunte, the BBC’s new LGBT correspondent, who said he was “looking forward to being the mouthpiece for some marginalised groups”.

Trewser · 07/10/2019 07:46

The BBC has been accused of bias for years in all sorts of issues.

teawamutu · 07/10/2019 07:44

They're not new points - but they are accusations of bias from someone senior within the BBC we've repeatedly complained to and repeatedly been assured is scrupulously objective and impartial. There's some value in that, isn't there?

Trewser · 07/10/2019 07:17

Oh come on. He fudges it, he's not making any intelligent points. He's an old dinosaur who will be dismissed. Sorry, I'm waiting for the breakthrough too, but this isn't it.

HandsOffMyRights · 07/10/2019 07:14

its way

HandsOffMyRights · 07/10/2019 07:13

John is an old school journalist, but factual, balanced and unbiased reporting doesn't seem to win over the extreme bias and emotion at the BBC, which regularly breaches its own code of conduct and wastes a huge amount of licence fee payers' cash on promoting the trans agenda. The levels of saturation are incredible. Even on i-player it blatantly pushes certain programmes to the top of the home page for weeks.

Look at the BBC Ru Paul quiz and BBC Bitesize threads (along with the BBC examples of bias resource on herw) for numerous examples of how the BBC manipulates messages.

I've complained to the BBC numerous times over its bias.

The BBC has lost it's way with transgender issues, clearly influenced by the higher than average number of employees who self ID as transgender.

It is duping audiences and being irresponsible in how it uses public money.
