Online if you want to take it. You translate the drag phrase.
How nice to see that those putting it together didn't think that "fishy" meaning a very feminine drag queen may be offensive....

PMSL at “I smell TERF vibes” 🤣

Questions, questions, so many questions.

Can you smell a vibe?
What does TERF smell like?
Is it better to smell of TERF or fish?
Does that insult work better when hissed across a classroom, because it didn’t have the intended effect on me, as I’m an adult and silly name calling stopped bothering me a good thirty years ago.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 04/10/2019 06:53

How does one smell a vibe anyway?

SophoclesTheFox · 04/10/2019 06:49

Can’t seriously believe that some people are arguing against “you look so convincingly feminine that you just about smell of fish, like a real woman!” being anything but the rankest misogyny.

I’ve been around the gay scene for donkeys years, I’m well aware of the part that drag plays in that culture and history, but I still don’t like it because it riffs off stereotypes of how ridiculous, bitchy, vain and awful women are. Saying that gay men get a free pass on misogyny is like saying that women should get a free pass on racism- it doesn’t work like that.

testing987654321 · 04/10/2019 06:48

I smell TERF vibes.

Yet again, wtf are you on about?

People keep coming on this thread and just writing random sentences that they obviously think have meaning but sadly for them are meaningless. Not even arguments, and definitely not persuasive ones.

MIdgebabe · 04/10/2019 06:42

So queer people can say what they like no matter how offensive ? Or would racism still be racism?

I didn't think there was much wrong with any of this drag stuff ( mostly harmless). Reading t( defences however has rather changed my mind)

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 04/10/2019 06:37

The irony of some people telling other people to grow up...

Agrona · 04/10/2019 06:27

I find the term ‘fishy’ when used by drag queens to refer to women to be offensive.

That is my opinion. This opinion is based on experience.

Agrona · 04/10/2019 06:25

LOL. Women can object to terms they find offensive because that is their opinion.

You can object to women’s objection because that is your opinion.

We all have the freedom to form our own opinions.

Seriously I can’t beliebe we have posters trying to convince women who say a term is misogynistic because well can’t we think about OTHER meanings of the word and like, ignore the historical baggage?

Seriously are you listening to yourself. Insert literally ANY other perjorarive term for a racial ethnic or religous group and you will see how awful this is. It’s like saying the n word is OK because “it really just refers to a color after all”

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 04/10/2019 00:35

I think you may be lost, Mac. The HeManWomanHater'sClub is over thattaway.

testing987654321 · 04/10/2019 00:17

Why are you trying to convince yourself that fishy in drag isn't to do with the supposed smell of women's vaginas?

thinkfast · 04/10/2019 00:03

I think it's disgusting that such a misogynistic show will be shown on the BBC and disgusting that they are promoting the show on their website with the use of an offensive term.

I will he complaining to the bbc...although we know how well the bbc handles complaints don't we?

Ereshkigal · 03/10/2019 23:58

Because, it's about the smell. That's why it was coined. Has nothing to do with the perceived attractiveness of a sardine or a haddock.

Melroses · 03/10/2019 23:55

Actually, some fish are really ugly.

BBC Rupaul Drag Quiz
Mac1990 · 03/10/2019 23:47

Do you actually think that they sit around high fiving each other over the use of words or was that a metaphor?

So when two women have conflicting views about women who's view is more important? The woman's or the woman's?

Do you find all opinions and views that differ from your own to be misogynistic?

Some fish have beautiful bodies and are agile and graceful creatures. Why can't these be the meanings that are attached to the word fishy and what it means to be fishy, rather than the smell?

Campervan69 · 03/10/2019 23:40

Yes and as with the word above only black people should be allowed to decide whether or not it is offensive. This word fishy has been used by gay men for generations to be offensive about women's vaginas and so it should solely be for women to decide whether or not what this word is offensive.

Ereshkigal · 03/10/2019 23:38

Why should it be relevant to women whether a group of men are high fiving each other over being called it?

Ereshkigal · 03/10/2019 23:37

I couldn't care less whether some people think it's "positive" and are happy for it to be used. People think a lot of things about what women should and shouldn't think. As a woman, I find it misogynistic.

Melroses · 03/10/2019 23:36

So where does it come from then? Are fish feminine? Poisson is masculine.

BertBox · 03/10/2019 23:36

Nothing to do with smell you say? :

BBC Rupaul Drag Quiz
Mac1990 · 03/10/2019 23:32

I feel like there is a lot of fixation here on the smell of genitals, when it is clear in RPDR that the meaning of fishy has nothing to do with smell.

Melroses · 03/10/2019 23:31

If feminine is positive, I am not seeing the need for the word 'fishy'.

Ereshkigal · 03/10/2019 23:31

Can see that going down like a lead balloon TBH.

Pretty sure you'd have the hate crime officer on your doorstep wanting to check your thinking.

Ereshkigal · 03/10/2019 23:27

I don't agree saying women's genitals smell of fish is not misogyny. I also don't think perceptions of what is female or "feminine" should revolve around what disparaging things men think about female bodies.
