Ideas for what we can do:

Theatres etc - go up to box office loudly asking 'where are the ladies'?' again and again as loudly as you can so the representative has to keep repeating the answer - if you're in a group, take it in turns for variety.

Ring an offending restaurant and book a table for six. Then ask 'I assume you have separate men's and women's loos?' then when they say no, say 'ah no, that doesn't work for us. I'll cancel that and we'll book at (name bitterest rival restaurant that does have separate loos) instead'. Get everyone you know to do it. Make sure you've blocked your number.

Come out of cubicle with full moon cup and wash it out in front of any men present (just pray they're not menophiliac).

Stickers. Lots of stickers.

Learn the statistics so you can recite the evidence of sexual assaults in mixed space etc etc whenever you're contradicted. 'In fact, Home Office statistics show that xx% ... ' etc.

Train your daughters to understand why we are saying no and to have the confidence to speak out. And your sons, too.

I don't mind toilets like that @catwithnohat. I have a child with a disability so I have used them.

They are very expensive though.

catwithnohat · 05/10/2019 18:20

You know as much as I understand why a lot of women don't want gender neutral toilets, as a disabled person I've had to deal with them for some years along with the abuse of them.

My feeling is that the whole design of toilets in public spaces needs to change so that there is floor to floor privacy (and perhaps a sink) in every cubicle so that noone has to share.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 05/10/2019 18:07

Complain. Complain. Complain some more.

YorkshirePud1 · 05/10/2019 16:56

They've made our toilets at work gender neutral and I absolutely hate it.

BackOnceAgainWithABurnerEmail · 05/10/2019 16:52

I’ll add a suggestion. Sending FOI requests to public bodies that move to them asking to see the impact assessment.

Start with the DfE.

WomanBornNotWorn · 05/10/2019 16:44

Answers to 'but you have a unisex/mixed sex /gender neutral loo at home, so what's the problem?'

I know every single person who comes into my house.

Everyone is here with my permission.

If I wouldn't want them in my loo they don't get to enter my house.

I know exactly who to blame if there is pee on the seat/floor and he won't be doing THAT again.

Same with molka cameras.

I’ve been enjoying the loo site someone upthread suggested. They say you can add notes to say if it’s single or dual sex loos (because I asked).

TruthOnTrial · 05/10/2019 13:32

Ah, another 'self-appointed expert'

LizzieSiddal · 04/10/2019 19:04

was he the one who did the preamble about all the mixed toilets in the home? i think he is a contractor/builder/designer who is keen on 'the way of the future' as a sales pitch.

Yes he did start with that ridiculous statement. Whoever he is, he said that he advised Councils all over the country.

I'll try to listen again- it may be worth getting in touch with him to give him some advice of our ownGrin

TruthOnTrial · 04/10/2019 18:56

Thank you Erishkigal

How do these people get on to speak, who dont represent anyone else, only their own agenda (aggressive commercialism)

Was there anyone there actually representing women?

No point in having women there who are not clear about the issues.

I'm not using a she wee in those circumstances.

I don't have a penis that can be directed out of a zip-fly. Neither do I have appropriate garments for inserting it whilst feeling unexposed.

Women's clothes are not designed for shewees, yet another thing we'd have to buy and pay tax on for every single wee. Whilst men arw catered for.

No sex discrimination there atall Confused

Helmetbymidnight · 04/10/2019 15:54

i didnt - and cant stand to listen again!

LizzieSiddal · 04/10/2019 15:24

So we had a man telling us that all these loos open out into a corridor.Hmm

Did anyone catch the name of the organisation he represented? He said they advise councils up and down the countryAngry

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 04/10/2019 14:05

What about the loos that have breastfeeding areas/chairs. Some women want a space where they can breastfeed/express away from everyone. They won't want to use a mixed sex loo will they?

Helmetbymidnight · 04/10/2019 13:55

another caller is talking about hand-washing...

Helmetbymidnight · 04/10/2019 13:54

oh caller thinks 'its bang on, cracking idea, men will up their game,'Confused

Helmetbymidnight · 04/10/2019 13:52

yeah he just wanted to talk about the she-wee. Hmm

there was a lot of 'this is the future' stuff too.

MrsSnippyPants · 04/10/2019 13:50

Jeremy Vine missing the point as usual.....

Datun · 04/10/2019 13:49

nina myskov saying she feels vulnerable in the loos with men- but not transwomen

Except the theatre aren't limiting it to tw. It's all men.

Helmetbymidnight · 04/10/2019 13:49

i genuinely think she hasnt thought that through- the language she used was ...confused.

WomanBornNotWorn · 04/10/2019 13:49

It was on Classic FM news this morning. I expect their audience is likely to be theatre goers too.
