Not having sex with someone because they don't have the right genitals is transphobic. No prizes for guessing who's claiming this

RM is busy trying to justify their support for a particularly unpleasant tweet yesterday. For those of you who are blocked, I'll add some grabs.

Is McKinnon really on sabbatical? Like when Ross was put on sabbatical after someone ate his turkey sandwich?

NotBadConsidering · 02/10/2019 23:17

McKinnon is employed by the College of Charleston in South Carolina, US. I think Canada is probably glad to be shot of McKinnon.

Wikipedia (I know) seems to suggest that tenure doesn't mean you're that untouchable - more that employment rights in a tenured position are more like European rights than typical US rights?

Anyway, I wouldn't like to see anyone sacked for appalling opinions expressed on Twitter. Fresh air, sunlight etc.

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 02/10/2019 23:07

'Hey guys! I have this great idea! Let's create this level of employment in our hierarchy that basically means as employers that we have no recourse to accountability whatsoever!'

'Yeah dude. Cool idea.'

Confused
Datun · 02/10/2019 22:11

But that is completely stupid!

That's what I keep coming back to. What's the point when someone uses it to boast about their untouchability? Just makes the uni look uninformed and ridiculous.

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 02/10/2019 22:02

But that is completely stupid!

BarbaraStrozzi · 02/10/2019 21:51

RMK has tenure. As far as I'm aware the Canadian system is like the US system - namely, once you have tenure, you are quite literally untouchable. There is nothing RMK's employers can do. RMK can say whatever RMK wants.

They've put Rachel on a sabbatical, what a surprise. Amazed anyone employed Rachel. Do they not do interviews in Canada? Are they all totally lacking batshit crazy detectors?

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 02/10/2019 21:14

I mean I'm not suggesting anyone complain because, y'know, comedy gold and also, y'know, she's actually one of us right? It just seems odd they would want this...attention Confused

TemporaryPermanent · 02/10/2019 21:13

Two interesting things for me from this episode - I was trying to find out more about asexuality, which I don't understand. I read this article and I now REALLY don't understand.

Also immensely heartening to see Dr Harrop thinking carefully, comparing TRA statements with his own experience and disagreeing with Dr RM. I wonder if it might lead to further critical thinking; hope so.

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 02/10/2019 21:11

Does this college/uni/youth training scheme nor have a social media policy?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/10/2019 21:10

Can you imagine working with this person?

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 02/10/2019 21:06

Oh, what a coincidence that Rach is planning a sabbatical. Bet it's completely nothing whatsoever to do with all the complaints their employers has been getting.

Btw - of the current 6 replies, guess which one was deboosted and hidden under the 'more replies' button...

No, sorry but this has to be the best yet. What the hell is RM identifying as now? Confused Grin

How can I apologise

Am blocked 😂😂🤣🤣

ScrimshawTheSecond · 02/10/2019 20:34

Apologies so far: None that I can see. Just an angry email from presumably a gay man who has complained about Rache calling gay and lesbian people 'immoral'. He maybe hasn't seen the memo, though.

TheChampagneGalop · 02/10/2019 20:28

I'm almost surprised that it wasn't written with a royal we. "We will accept apologies"

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/10/2019 20:23

Any apologies yet?

ThatCurlyGirl · 02/10/2019 20:22

"I will accept apologies"

Self entitlement level: RM

You could not write this shit!!!

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/10/2019 20:19

They do know that they can’t bully the world into wanting to have sex with them don’t they?

ScrimshawTheSecond · 02/10/2019 20:16

Everyone, it's okay, Rachel is now accepting apologies. There is proof posted on Rache's twitter that someone else at some time also thought sexual preferences were transphobic. So obviously because it's printed in a book it's correct.

You can form a queue.

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 02/10/2019 20:15

And bloody Lang beat me to my excellent point about the derail too. Grrrrrrr.

Stop being so efficient.

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 02/10/2019 20:13

Yeah! Let's have a thread about male suicide. Um somewhere else though - this ain't it.

I was just coming on to say what a disappointment Naomi is proving to be. But you guys beat me to it. Grin

Comedy gold.

Has Naomi worked it out yet?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/10/2019 19:11

Not derailment at all - Well Dr someone saying to someone PhD that they are a ‘proper’ doctor therefore understands the whole biology thing...
