Abortions

I'm not sure MN is the place for women to come for advice about abortions as so many forced-birthers or even 'I could never have an abortion" people/shills come on to every thread where a woman's in a terrible situation and is wavering.

I would advocate abortion in every circumstance a woman will be tied to an abusive man, I really hate the rhetoric that abortions are to be regretted or will cause pain. I think that the idea that abortions are or should be regretful or morally bound is very harmful to women.

Morally I agree with termination up until birth. I know that's an inflammatory position, but I think it's an humane one. And one that would be chosen by few desperate women.

But I think until the point of birth a woman must have volition in law.

Uh-huh.

MN full of forced birthers.... nope.

In 3 posts saying abortion till birth is aok till birth, in two of them...

I'm wary of op tbh.

No woman compelled or forced to continue a pregnancy at any stage.

This is my position also.

But the key is access. Prompt, free access to terminations means that they take place earlier. In the UK, even with technical restrictions, generally prompt access results in terminations at:

Under 10 weeks 80%
10-12 weeks 11%
13-18 weeks 7%
19+ weeks 2%

And most of that 2% are exigent circumstances such as concealed pregnancies in young teens, late diagnosis of catastrophic foetal disability, threat of life to mother.

I'm quite open about my abortions. I've had five, over 30 years of consensual sex. I accept I'm an outlier when it comes to numbers. I only speak because I've see the way abortions are spoken about. One is regretful but understandable, above that, judgements are made.

Two of mine were contraception failures, I was on the pill and took it carelessly once, the second I had antibiotics.

The other three? Two were burst condoms with my husband after which I took the morning after pill, to no effect.

The final was also with my husband, but it was careless, just lust at the wrong time.

So, five abortions, not particularly clever, but not devastating either. None of them have damaged me. I am very pleased that I am able to make the choices I did, and I think it's important woman can and do.

I agree with you OP.

No woman compelled or forced to continue a pregnancy at any stage.
Each of us sovereign of our own bodies.
Within my skin is my domain.
My health, my body, my decision.

And why should she not just be able to change her mind, at any point, about wanting to continue to gestate the foetus that had yet been born.

There's your forced-birther Hairy Absolutely nobody's business but that woman, who very responsibly decided not to have an unwanted child. We're not quite in Gilead yet.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 28/09/2019 23:05

How do you know she had none?

I watched a video last week that I can't find now. A woman in her 30s, middle class, reasonable income, not sure she wants kids, etc.

She was sharing her trauma of having to go out of state to get a just shy of 28 week abortion.

She was so grateful that she now works for Planned Parenthood.

Babies are viable with good post natal care from 25 weeks now.

So for me, yeahnah. Exceptional circumstances? Sure, maybe, but she came across as entitled and self absorbed. Why the fuck could she not adopt her baby?

I'm gonna get slammed I know, but these late abortions do my head in. And give conservatives any easy target to point the finger at.

Of course, exceptional circumstances are different, but this woman has none.
