On Facebook.

Local Facebook page, a man posts a discussion about Prolife protesters outside abortion clinics. A picture of himself with a sign saying 'screw these guys', pointing to the Prolifers.

He then proceeds to lecture women thinking about counter protesting, saying sometimes it makes the situation worse (yet he posts a photo of himself clearly antagonising the prolifers at a previous protest Hmm )

I point out to people thinking about counter protesting, with a particular group who are mentioned, that the prochoice group hold certain views about gender that conflict with my own.
That they believe the word woman should not be used on placards as 'people of all genders use abortion services'
Obviously it's just women that use abortion services.

So a sign stating 'A woman's womb is no ones business but her own' would not be allowed. It would have to say 'A person's womb is no ones business but their own'

Anyway. I was blocked by the OP.

This below was the reason.

Funnily enough, before he blocked me I received around a DOZEN likes from Women agreeing with what I said. They also believe that the word woman is Not dirty and should be a use able word in relation to abortion services.

Yet this man think he knows better than them and me.

He blocked me again before I could reply.

Argh.

I've just been called a TERF...

Oh dear, I wrote terfly not terfy.
I'm an out and proud terf.

Aberhonddu · 29/09/2019 22:44

It's quite telling that on a thread about the word terf , the most deletions are for a person that's telling all these terfly women how awful and mean they are.

NEWSFLASH. human beings cannot change sex.
You really are doing Transpeople a disservice here, trans people exist, they are real people, they can probably do without your trans fucking wokey cokey goodwill and your determination to single them out as special, I'll bet most just want to get on with their lives without some fucking do gooder that is determined to raise their own awareness.
All people have their own battles to fight. Let them fight it.
This board is known as FWR, Feminist Women's Rights. That's why the posters on here fight over and over again to protect Women's rights,
In a way, it's interesting that you see fighting for women's rights as anti trans, that really shows where your priorities lie, I'll give you a clue, your internalised misogyny is showing, you're centering men in your version of feminism

.

TheAlternativeTentacle · 29/09/2019 21:48

Kark, can you please tell me, what is it that makes that rapist a woman?

ErrolTheDragon · 29/09/2019 20:01

Saying that someone has to use a separate bathroom is not persecution

I'm not even saying TW have to use a 'separate' bathroom - if there were mixed sex facilities in addition to the single sex ones then I might well use the mixed sex as I'm sure karka would to. Single sex for those that need them, and mixed sex for anyone who doesn't want to use the one corresponding to their sex, or who isn't bothered either way, or parents with opposite sex kids etc etc - why paint that as a negative? (BTW, using horribly transphobic language like 'freak' - I assume trying to imply that's how we see trans people - is thoroughly disreputable tactic)

Ereshkigal · 29/09/2019 19:12

It's good that you didn't challenge the idea that you were ignoring or dismissing women's privacy, dignity and comfort. Or that transgenderism is a toxic sexist ideology.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 29/09/2019 19:03

When you run back and say "look, I told those other women off for you!", otoh, that can yield a response that some may find emotionally satisfying.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 29/09/2019 18:59

Can’t voice an opinion to the men. They might not like it. No dissent in the ranks.

ExhaustedGrinch · 29/09/2019 18:58

If men are so dangerous, why is it OK for the ten percent of trans women who do pass to share a bathroom with the men? What about their safety? Why is that on women to accomadate them and not men? Surely the solution is to make mens toilets safer no? Educate men that violence against others is unacceptable. Go spout your shite to them.

Pota2 · 29/09/2019 18:38

Karka none of the many men I work with are criminals. I have never felt threatened by them. Yet we don’t share bathrooms or changing facilities. I wonder why that is.

Pota2 · 29/09/2019 18:37

Karka are you thick? Nobody is persecuting anyone. Saying that someone has to use a separate bathroom is not persecution. If it were, it would be equal persecution to say non trans men cannot use women’s bathrooms either.

And we have explained that it’s not about criminality any more than not allowing non trans men in. Some of them are criminal but most are not. It’s about privacy and dignity and someone else’s identity (which doesn’t match their physical appearance) makes no odds.

Ereshkigal · 29/09/2019 18:36

Then we disagree. Excellent.

Karkasaurus · 29/09/2019 18:36

I don't agree that they are less safe.

Ereshkigal · 29/09/2019 18:35

I think ignoring or dismissing the privacy and dignity and comfort of women and girls, as well as making them less safe, to prop up a toxic, sexist ideology is rather spiteful and unpleasant so I guess that is a bit of an impasse.

Karkasaurus · 29/09/2019 18:35

No, I haven't heard of this person.

Karkasaurus · 29/09/2019 18:34

It's this crazy thing called being friends with trans people in real life. It's quite astonishing. You should try it

Pota2 · 29/09/2019 18:34

Course she’s heard of McKinnon. Such a crock of shite. Anyway, makes no difference whether you have or not. I am talking about your ilk, whether or not you are personally acquainted.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 29/09/2019 18:33

So where do you get information from?

Karkasaurus · 29/09/2019 18:32

I simply don't agree with persecuting trans people over their supposed predisposed criminality. I think it's all rather spiteful and unpleasant.

TheAlternativeTentacle · 29/09/2019 18:31

Kark, what is it about this rapist that would make you, and anyone, think he is a woman?

I mean, there must be something, bearing in mind he was put into a female prison.

What was that thing that made people decide that it would be a safe thing to do? I can't see it, maybe you can.

I've just been called a TERF...
Karkasaurus · 29/09/2019 18:31

I don't go on Twitter. I think it's ghastly. And I have much better things to do than embroil myself with one or the other side of extremism, which is all Twitter seems to support.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 29/09/2019 18:27

Oh come on. How can you not have head of the cyclist if you have such an interest in the topic? Don’t you know who they are? The one who had a spat with Martina Navratilova (that’s a very famous lesbian tennis player for those too young to remember).

nellodee · 29/09/2019 18:26

If the argument is that transwomen should be allowed into women's toilets because they are safer, then other groups who are at higher risk, such as gay men and the elderly should be allowed in on the same basis. Reductio ad absurdum, if anyone can enter women's toilets, then they are no longer safer.

If the argument is instead that transwomen should be allowed into women's toilets because they identify as women and would feel uncomfortable without the validation of their adopted gender, then this need for validation should be weighed against both the feelings of discomfort of the natal women whose space they are entering, and, since transwomen retain male patterns of criminal behaviour, the increased risk to women of them entering those spaces. It is absolutely wrong to pretend there is no conflict of interest under this interpretation.

Pota2 · 29/09/2019 18:26

Karka I don’t wish to be disparaging but you don’t have the intellect for this debate. You can back up none of your points with anything other than ‘you’re mean’.

If you genuinely want to help trans people, campaign for third spaces. Spend your energy on that rather than telling women what they should think.

Karkasaurus · 29/09/2019 18:25

No, I don't know them. Is this a Twitter thing?

Ereshkigal · 29/09/2019 18:23

You've never heard of Rachel McKinnon? You're in for a treat.
