I’m offering this without comment, mainly because my jaw is still on the floor.

@ShouldIStayOrShouldIRun
Speak to the school. Find out what she has been taught and will be taught this scholastic year and also ask if the “learning” she received has been consolidated or reiterated in other lessons. You do have a right to pull your dd out of sex Ed so exercise it and let all the parents know what you discover.

Dd didn’t get any sex Ed until yr5 and we are not in Warwickshire. Do take solace that if your dd has been taught about sexual feelings in one single lesson that it will now be largely forgotten.

ShouldIStayOrShouldIRun · 30/09/2019 23:59

Yes we are in Warwickshire, dd is in year 2 at the local primary.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 30/09/2019 23:42

Maybe have a carefully worded chat with your dd, Should? I'm assuming you're not in Warwickshire.

(Had to correct myself from writing Warwickshite twice, see what happens when you realize that a council is up to no good?)

ShouldIStayOrShouldIRun · 30/09/2019 23:38

Sorry, I'm an occasional lurker and have just come across this thread and am now panicking!!!

I vaguely recall going to a meeting last year in dd's school where they mentioned a new 'all about me' program which was replacing 'spring fever'. They said it was all very age appropriate and nothing to worry about.

They didn't mention anything at all like whats been said on here.

What the hell have they been teaching my dd (6)????

littlbrowndog · 30/09/2019 23:22

Just saw this on twitter from dr Jessica Eaton not sure how relevant it is here but anyway

Did you know that the numbers of teachers being struck off in the UK for sexual abuse of children is at the highest rates it has ever been?
Govt released statement about it a few months back. Over a third of all teachers being struck off are for sexually abusing kids.

HandsOffMyRights · 30/09/2019 22:47

Noting all of this for my reply.

I hope previous posters in Warwickshire will contact their MPs also.

LangCleg · 30/09/2019 22:17

we would never allow an inappropriate programme to be used in our schools

How about material that does nothing to stem a 521% increase in minor-on-minor sexual assaults?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 30/09/2019 22:13

So the follow up should be "great, what is the timeline for that review and when and how will the results be shared with the public?"

Datun · 30/09/2019 21:00

We take our responsibilities to our children extremely seriously and we would never allow an inappropriate programme to be used in our schools. As such we are taking the opportunity to review the material

We would never allow dodgy material, but it seems we have - oops.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 30/09/2019 19:56

yes, they have a process issue here

how did they end up commissioning this chap? he doesn't seem to have many discernable qualifications for the job, and has in fact produced and contributed to 2 execrable and wholly inappropriate programmes, thus amply demonstrating that concerns about his qualifications are justified

what are WCC going to do to make sure this doesn't happen again now that they're in charge of commissioning SRE?

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 30/09/2019 18:45

Wtf is wrong with some folk

Normalising and desensitising works, and it works well.

HandsOffMyRights · 30/09/2019 18:41

Orchid

Yes, just rolled out the stock response to 'All About Me'
Not responded to the various points I raised, including Jonny's credentials.

That's how seriously they are taking this.

Macca84 · 30/09/2019 18:37

Somebodys mentioned this story on a single parenting forum thread on facebook and there is a lady getting very haughty that "this stuff needs to be spelled out to kids" and "it's the naive kids who are most at risk". What, so you need to detail/promote every single sex act to a 13 year old? Wtf is wrong with some folk

OrchidInTheSun · 30/09/2019 18:35

@HandsOffMyRights - she's clearly just sent you the same reply she's sent everyone else.

How rude to not actually even read your letter

IfNot · 30/09/2019 18:32

I said upthread this is local to me and there was a lot of stuff on fb about it (mostly pitchfork wielding “discusting pedos” type outrage
Hang on a minute. Not to be picky but just because some people can't spell or whatever doesn't mean their outrage is somehow less important. You don't need to be educated to have a clear sense of right and wrong. Besides. The people peddling this muck probably ARE disgusting paedophiles. I can't think of any other reason to create such shocking material for children.

HandsOffMyRights · 30/09/2019 18:29

Mummy, exactly. I even started my email with 'Respect Yourself' and go on to discuss many of the red flags regarding this particular programme.

I'll email back for clarity.
On her part...

Ereshkigal · 30/09/2019 18:28

521%. Jesus

Yes, that should really be part of the "evidence base".

Mummyoflittledragon · 30/09/2019 18:25

@HandsOffMyRights
I think it’s worrying that she hasn’t even read what you said properly. It makes me wonder how well she understood what was being taught in the Netherlands and how much she understood of the programme. Maybe she lacks basic understanding.

HandsOffMyRights · 30/09/2019 18:24

I will Eresh.

I mean, don't get me wrong, it's vile enough that All About Me is teaching 6 year olds to masturbate, but the fact that I have explicitly pointed out why Respect Yourself is so predatory, leaves me to wonder if the council even knows what these separate yet equally disturbing programmes are advocating.

OrchidInTheSun · 30/09/2019 18:22

Just to avoid confusion - there are two separate initiatives here:

  • All About Me which is an RSE programme which Jonny Hunt has written for primary schools in Warwickshire. After some bad press, Warwickshire CC has removed the link from their website.
  • Respect Yourself - which is a website aimed at secondary school aged children funded by the council, the NHS and uses some content provided by JH. It is not part of the curriculum and there has been nothing in MSM. It is still linked to by WCC.

521%. Jesus

No Outsiders is a different sex positive initiative.

Ereshkigal · 30/09/2019 18:19

Melroses Shock

Ereshkigal · 30/09/2019 18:19

I wrote to her about the Respect Yourself programme

Yes I would write back to her and point that out.

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 30/09/2019 18:16

Between 2013 and 2017, minor on minor sex assaults reported to the police go up by 521% in Warwickshire.

I think Etty and co will see this as indicative of a need to educate children about how liberated and sex positive those sexual events have been. The ungrateful brats.

HandsOffMyRights · 30/09/2019 18:14

I wrote to her about the Respect Yourself programme Hmm

Mummyoflittledragon · 30/09/2019 18:11

☹️ those stats are awful!
