More propaganda from Mermaids

Came across this in The Mirror, obviously written by Mermaids.
www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/my-girl-became-youngest-trans-20138358

Not quite sure how to phrase this but it looks to me like another young child's life has been ruined for a publicity stunt, a vanity project for the parents and Mermaids. "Youngest trans child ever".

I simply do not believe most of what was written, ot things actually happened the way the article describes. I just feel really really sad for that young child.

Being a fantasy Disney Princess is not being a girl!

Only boys go through male puberty, Helen, and people can't change sex. Didn't they teach you that at medical school?

Anyway, Webberley is still suspended by the GMC, so nobody should be paying any attention to her ramblings.

mcduffy · 22/09/2019 20:33

I don't know how she looks herself in the mirror Sad

WTF? Dr Webberly needs to FOTTFSOFAFSM!

I hate to break it to you but your child may have terrible taste. Luckily, much like wanting to be a dinosaur//the family dog/the opposite sex this is something they will most likely grow out of!

Unless a dodgy lobby group comes along to "help" them, anyway.

Qcng · 22/09/2019 20:07

It's completely driven by the parents, who have a need to have a "very special brave and stunning child" and will latch onto any utterance from the child if it happens to be outside of the gender conforming box.

I currently have a 4 year old who desperately wants a plastic keyboard we saw in Oxfam.
The plastic keyboard is shaped in the style of a grand piano. It is bright pink. It has princess stickers all over it.
I've told my child "no" because quite honestly it's a price of plastic tacky crap for £40 including the pink chair to sit play it on.
My child is sobbing their heart out and really upset.
My child also wants a remote control digger for their birthday.

Oh my god! Is my child a boy or girl???

Part of me wonders...where there always tons of parents with these idiotic, regressive ideas, and they just had no way to act on them until Mermaids etc came along and handed them a "this is how you abuse your nonconforming child the progressive way" script?

(Literally a script, I assume they're given one to follow because it's pretty much word for word from one propaganda piece to the next.)

It breaks my heart what adults are doing to children. Mermaids should hang their heads in shame.

My boy wore Princess dresses at 4, 5 and 6. At 7 he probably still had a Princess room.

They're children for God's sake. It's horrific and the buck ends with you, Susie.

I know later on there is scaremongering and lying. Transition or die etc. But before that the child has got this idea that they are wrong, and a 3 year old does not get that idea out of thin air.

If the child got that idea from the parents then you have your answer and know who to blame (though Mermaids aren't helping). If the child got the idea from school, TV etc then it is the job of the parents to reassure the child that their interests are fine and don't mean there's something wrong with them. So any way you look at it the parents are very much to blame with a child this young.

(With teenagers there's also social media and parents have a lot less control over the situation.)

Gee - a frilly frock is what makes your sex your sex! Wow. So what did cavemen do?

FWRLurker · 22/09/2019 18:45

“I asked her if she wanted regular girl clothes and was so excited... so we threw away all the old boys’ clothes... that’s how I knew this was her authentic self.”

LET CLOTHES BE CLOTHES
LET TOYS BE TOYS

OBJECTS are not male or female!!!!

BazzleJet · 22/09/2019 18:16

Don't forget that some parents believe that vaccinations are a conspiracy by governments to control the populace... The internet can be a wonderful thing but my god it can cause some problems in the hard of thinking.

Goosefoot · 22/09/2019 18:12

I tend to think a lot of these are about the parents issues. But also a lot of parents of younger kids now have been exposed to this idea that their kid might be trans if they ever say they and to be the other sex, or do certain things. And it seems like it's the medical world telling them this. So I also think increasingly they are just parents doing what they are told is best.

I suppose some parents may genuinely believe that only boys can play with cars and only girls can like princesses and maybe I should be more understanding of that but I find it very difficult.

Yogobo · 22/09/2019 17:59

I find it hard to sympathise with the parents when the child involved is as young as this. At some point in the child's life (I don't mean this child in particular but generally), they must have been told or shown that they are wrong for behaving a certain way /liking the things they like/wanting to play with certain toys or wear certain clothes. And meanwhile they see it is accepted, or even praised and encouraged for children of the opposite sex to do/have/wear/be those things. I can't imagine telling my DD that something is intrinsically wrong with her. That her personality makes her wrong or that she has the wrong body for her personality. I just can't imagine it.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 22/09/2019 17:49

Of course it makes sense! My parents response to my sister ‘so does your action man want the helicopter or jeep?’.

Sigh - I loved playing with the action men (we had all the gear!) and always hated Barbies/Sindys.

LloydBraun · 22/09/2019 17:47

It does and I think you are doing a damn good job as a parent, if you don’t mind me saying so

roseapothecary · 22/09/2019 17:41

Wow there are dozens of typos in my post. Apologies, hope my point still comes across okay.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 22/09/2019 17:39

I think it’s coming from the parents.

So as above a boy says ‘I wanna be a girl’ one parent says ‘why? A boy can like pink and princesses! Why not?’ Whereas another says ‘oh darling, do you really? Really? Well of course you must be a girl then. What shall we call you? Lulabelle or Ameli-rose? Of course the trousers will have to go - yes even the link ones because that not what real girls wear...’

ErrolTheDragon · 22/09/2019 17:39

You're a wise parent, Rose.

roseapothecary · 22/09/2019 17:35

I have a gender non-conforming son. From the age of 2/3 he would cry saying he wanted to he a girl. His favourite toys were barbies and he loved dressing up as a princess. His idea of being a girl was very much princess dresses and long hair.
I never talked to him about gender identity or being trans as I didn't want to confuse him at a very young age. Instead I spoke to him about how there was no such thing as girl toys/boy toys etc, and he could be a boy who likes dolls and has long hair.
Now he is 8. He still likes s and princesses. He has some awareness now that some people are transgender but states that he is happy being a boy and doesn't want to be a girl.
According to the 'dead son or happy daughter' trope my son should be suicidal as a result of my not affirming his transgender status as a young child, but hes fine and happy and comfortable with who he is. Of course he may still decide that he is transgender as he gets older. Which is fine as it would be his decision when he is old enough to fully understand. It is not a decision for parents to be making for very young children, pushing them down a pathway of bidy dysphoria, medication and surgery.

LloydBraun · 22/09/2019 16:48

Thank you. I had donned my tin hat expecting abuse! However I speak from experience, I’m not doing g a Boris Johnson

vaginafetishist · 22/09/2019 16:37

Lloyd- agreed re Liverpool, I'm from there too.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 22/09/2019 15:43

A kit - ‘about’ duh

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 22/09/2019 15:43

Parents forgetting that being a parent is a kit the child, not them. So if the child decides that they want to wear a rugby top and take up kickboxing would mum sit down and tell the child they ‘girls can do this - gooooo girl power!!!’ (Come on, she likes Disney after all) or ‘eeeeek!!!!! You’re a boy then! Oh the shock, the horror! What will the neighbours thing! Somebody call the daily mail’.
