Aaarrgghhh · 23/09/2019 17:01

Seen this Let's call them what they actually are: anti-trans activists. and won’t read any further. It’s ridiculous to say we are anti trans ffs.

The 'likes' now at 7,300 🤔

MmmBlowholes

😂 at the posting name. Made me think of front holes for some reason 😂

I came here precisely to see if anyone had commented about this.

The tweets this article has generated had me open-mouthed, not least for the fact at the childish nature of some of the responses, most of which involve incendiary name-calling and blocking. It does not seem possible to have a measured debate at all about this inflammatory topic.

It's ironic that if I do so under my real Twitter identity, it's a realistic possibility I could be fired. It's an even bigger irony that I work in a platform which sees itself as enlightened and liberated, and in which intellectual debate and free speech should be paramount.

Cosmopolitan has always been a misogynistic upholder of the patriarchy. There are no surprises there.

Pthagonal · 23/09/2019 09:29

Hope this works, it should be the archive version of the article.

Is there an image of the original article or a copy available? I want to share the content without giving it the clicks.

BatShite · 22/09/2019 11:03

these views have only fuelled the fire of violent transphobia that already exists in the UK.

What violent transphobia? Fairly sure transphobic attacks are rare (thankfully) here and that when they do happen, its almost always men doing it, so nowt to do with radical feminists..

Despite how much noise they make online, TERFs are a minority group who normally stick to online forums

Still fooling themselves that people who acknowledge sex are in the minority I see. If it really was such a tiny fringe group, so much effort wouldn't need to be put into attacking us. And actively trying to stop us speaking..as sunlight is the best cure for this insanity as we all know.

So, to avoid all the confusion about slurs and names, let’s stop using the term TERFs and call them what they actually are – anti-trans activists.

Like TRAs are anti-woman activists, or MRAs. Of course. Caring about womens rights even a tiny bit is considered 'ant trans'.

Bunch more of the usual 'denying our right to exist' nonsense too. Same shit different day.

This article made me rage, unsurprisingly. Especially the part about radfems not being feminists fullstop because they refuse to centre dicks. But thats another as common as muck..same lies, same projecting, always.

Thanks for this, I've just cancelled our whole Hearst account!

I hope that some of you will write more about this. I don't want to go on Twitter to see the comments as I am boycutting Twitter because they block women for being GC but don't block men for issuing rape threats and death treaths to GC women.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 21/09/2019 21:23

Ok so I’ve had a couple of glasses of wine - but a quick read and it’s not too bad...

Someone patiently breaking it down on youtube.

I love this little thread on twitter:

Women’s” magazines exist solely to make their readers feel inadequate, so that they’ll buy whatever unnecessary and overpriced crap their advertisers are flogging.

And in another comment Pro-trans = pro-makeup, pro-fashion, pro-plastic-surgery, etc.

Spot on!

KatvonHostileExtremist · 21/09/2019 17:26

How do they stop comments from loading? Can't see the responses on the main tweet.

Saw on Facebook someone claiming that the feature editor"s dad is trans, and this could be a reason for the magazines "evil te*f" stance.

VictoriaSpongeAndTea · 21/09/2019 14:57

Women's magazines are daft. They are struggling. Why would you piss off existing readers of magazines from the same publishers? did they intend to be controversial? In which case that's piss poor writing skills or was it lazy cheap commissioning that's backfired and they are hoping will go away.

We don't harass a business for decades like the TRAs, but we do just quietly take our business elsewhere

thecompletenonsequitur · 21/09/2019 14:25

Can somebody explain 'deboosting' to me Blush.

NotYourCisterinAus · 21/09/2019 14:22

I see the Anime Avatars were out in force. Funny how most of their responses were variations on "Shut up, Terf!" and "LOL, Terfs mad!" They're really demonstrating their maturity and how well thought out their arguments are with those ones. Grin

(Also that "terf" is clearly a substitute for "bitch". But we knew that already, didn't we?)

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 21/09/2019 09:22

I see Marc Almond has said he is getting off twitter after getting dogs abuse from the anime’s and menz.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 21/09/2019 09:19

There is but I suppose we need to figure out how to get heard.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 21/09/2019 09:10

Why isn't there more of an outcry about Twitter bias and dishonesty, given that all kinds of public bodies use twitter?

As an organisation it has the most appalling amount of undemocratic power.

Ereshkigal · 21/09/2019 09:06

This is, of course, bullshit. There is mountains of research by psychologists and academics to prove these ideas wrong, and these views have only fuelled the fire of violent transphobia that already exists in the UK.

Citation please. Of the "mountains of research" so we can examine the quality of it, and that the views of women about sex-based rights fuel anything, and that there is notably "violent transphobia" in the UK.

That's three claims, none of them evidenced. But don't let that get in the way of your whiny adolescent rant.

Ereshkigal · 21/09/2019 09:00

What was incorrect in the article though? TERFs ARE anti-trans activists - they're like broken records and never talk about anything BUT transwoman not being women.

It's a misogynistic slur. Most people don't believe MTFs are actually women, not just a minority of radical feminists. People who call women that for wanting to protect women's sex based rights are Anti Woman Activists. HTH.

Candidpeel · 21/09/2019 08:54

A few prominent TRA accounts tweeted the Cosmo tweet asking for their followers to thwart the ratio -- that's when it leapt from 8 likes all day to 1k +.

Most of the likes and RTs are from anime avatars. If Cosmo or their advertisers think these are womens magazine buying types they are fooling themselves (I'm sure they are smarter than that)
