I'm sure we've all read this passage where Izzard bravely takes on teenage girls who challenge him for being in the women's toilets hundreds of times before but Michael's take down is spot on. And funny

Talking of middle aged crises and hairplugs....

I saw Izzard in London in 1995 and even then he was making jokes about being a ‘lesbian trapped in a man’s body’.

OrchidInTheSun · 19/09/2019 16:24

Oops thanks @RaveOnThisCrazyFeeling I was so busy getting the vowels right in the surname I didn't even notice!

Fanny and Orchid, it's @michealconraoi not @michaelconraoi (note positions of a and e in first name). Irish spelling.

GroggyLegs · 19/09/2019 14:32

Yes Fekko let me rephrase:
'it must be so hard to step out for the first time as someone clearly male in a dress'

I don't mean hes brave now.
He's as arse now.

ChickenyChick · 19/09/2019 14:10

Thanks for sharing OP! Love it

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 19/09/2019 14:04

It’s not brave if you are someone used to being on stage and loving the limelight.

I saw him striding down Tottenham Court Road at lunchtime (with a look of ‘Don’t you know who I am, I’m brilliant I am), not the arse end of [insert rough town of your choice] at 1am.

GroggyLegs · 19/09/2019 13:58

I'd LOVE to know what EI imagined would happen in the final scene of this episode - Would women be scared and fuck off leaving him to his fantasy?
We're they honoured that a male was present and smile, laugh and be totally fine with a man, now dressed in man clothes, being there?
Did he pass in his version - if so what happens when he steps out of the cubicle in male attire?
Or (my pick) did women not feature for one moment in this mememememeeeee tale?

It's such utter bullshit.
It IS brave to challenge gender stereotypes, it must be so hard to step out as someone clearly male in a dress.
Its not brave to smash into women's space & scream at children for questioning WTF you're doing there, after drawing attention to yourself running in & out of cubicles Hmm

You're an arse Eddie.

OrchidInTheSun · 19/09/2019 13:13

Just had a look @fannycam - think he's changed it. It's @michaelconraoi

I haven't found Eddie funny in years but laughed my back off when I heard him congratulate himself for standing up to teenage girls.

FannyCann · 19/09/2019 12:00

What is Michael's twitter handle? I thought I/he followed but now I can't find him - assume he's still there.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 19/09/2019 11:41

Bingo - you had it in one.

OldCrone · 19/09/2019 11:40

Umm - to put it delicately, for whom?

For them, of course. It's how AGP often starts.

Autogynephilia is defined as a male's propensity to be sexually aroused by the thought of himself as a female. It is the paraphilia that is theorized to underlie transvestism and some forms of male-to-female (MtF) transsexualism. Autogynephilia encompasses sexual arousal with cross-dressing and cross-gender expression that does not involve women's clothing per se. Autogynephilia resembles a sexual orientation in that it involves elements of idealization and attachment as well as erotic desire.

ThePankhurstConnection · 19/09/2019 11:37

Ok I’m going to ask. So dressing can be a sexual turn-on thing.

Umm - to put it delicately, for whom? I don’t think I would find a man pretending to be a woman/feminine (so discount men in eyeliner, etc as was the fashion when I were a lass) in any way arousing or attractive - and I’m not certain there’s a whole pool of men or women who would. Is it more a power thing?

For themselves - autogynephillia is to be aroused by the idea of oneself as a woman. I think other people are mostly incidental, props or part of the validation as the self as a woman.

(I hope that was what you were asking there and I'm not just answering a different question).

I have very little respect for Izzard now but I did enjoy this take down - thank you for posting OP. Wine

ThePurported · 19/09/2019 11:22

It's weird how many people don't know about cross-dressing as a fetish. I thought it was fairly common knowledge, like how everyone knows about flashers.
Is it because any cock in a frock can now call themselves 'trans' and refer to their fetish as an 'identity'?
Thanks Stonewall and Ruth Hunt. What a legacy!

MrsFogi · 19/09/2019 11:12

I used to love Eddie when he was a bloke who wore nail varnish and heels when he fancied. Nowadays I can't stand him.

Michelleoftheresistance · 19/09/2019 11:05

Absolutely to this being an exciting experience for Izzard, where women aren't real people, just potential sex partners (just wholly reorient their sexuality to your purpose so you can use them properly) and props in your personal agenda. Proper girls presumably would have either 'not noticed' (the bloke behaving highly suspiciously in the toilets and scaring them) or offered lipstick and validation cookies.

You get the impression that the main problem with using women's spaces is all the bloody women in them.

And jeez the heroism in turning on three thirteen year old children and making them scream and run away. How does it go: men are afraid that women will laugh at them (or make their penises sad); women are afraid that men will kill them.

I have a box set of his, I used to love his comedy. I tried watching it the other day and had to turn it off, it was just disgusting me. He about finished me off in his more recent interview where he airily announced that some women might self exclude from bathrooms/services/life saving health care (because of their religion, culture, trauma, disability, fear, things that he's given a lifelong impression of caring about), but whatevs, more fool them, it's more important that he gets to express his sexuality freely in women's spaces than it is for women to have human rights.

Utterly self centred, utterly unable to see women as anything but objects for his personal use.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 19/09/2019 11:04

Thanks, OldCrone, for the links. Izzard refers to himself as 'transgender'. I wonder where the line between the definitions is.

TheChampagneGalop · 19/09/2019 10:57

DON’T GOOGLE ‘DARVO’ OR YOU’LL BE CLASSED AS A TROLL AND BEARDED GAMERS WILL UNGLUE THEMSELVES FROM PORNHUB JUST LONG ENOUGH TO SEND YOU AN ANIME DEATH-THREAT

It's funny because it's true.

OldCrone · 19/09/2019 10:46

Scrimshaw This is the Stonewall trans umbrella:

Trans people may describe themselves using one or more of a wide variety of terms, including (but not limited to) transgender, transsexual, gender-queer (GQ), gender-fluid, non-binary, gender-variant, crossdresser, genderless, agender, nongender, third gender, bi-gender, trans man, trans woman, trans masculine, trans feminine and neutrois.
www.stonewall.org.uk/help-advice/glossary-terms#t

Transvestic fetishism is where someone is sexually aroused by crossdressing (which is under the Stonewall umbrella).

Transvestic fetishism is a separate condition, which involves “intense sexually arousing fantasies, sexual urges, or behaviors involving cross-dressing”
www.sciencedirect.com/topics/medicine-and-dentistry/transvestic-fetishism

Izzard is a crossdresser, and he has described this as a 'sexuality', so I assume he is sexually aroused by his crossdressing.

HumphreyCobblers · 19/09/2019 10:32

God that was good. I listened to this on book of the week on radio 4. I couldn't believe this bit, was shouting at the radio.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 19/09/2019 10:31

I stood up to those little girls! Who as everyone knows are the most terrifying members of society, especially when you're a decade older than them and twice as broad across the shoulders.

It occurs to me that a certain kind of misogynistic creep (witness current MRA invasion) really does think that teenage girls are the most powerful members of society because that's who they want to shag and can't, therefore they reframe the rejection by the girls as cruel exercise of unearned power. Izzard is clever enough to realize that framing that as literally "I asked them for a shag and they said no" would get limited public sympathy, but frame it as rejection of your gender identity and suddenly the tables are turned and you finally get to punish those young girls for having the power not to want anything to do with you.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 19/09/2019 10:26

Thanks, OldCrone. Is transvestic fetishism different to transgenderism?

I have heard transgenderism described as having the wrong soul in the wrong body. (I don't personally believe in souls).

RoyalCorgi · 19/09/2019 10:25

If he was going to make something up, couldn't he have made up a story that made him look better? I mean, this makes Izzard look totally ridiculous and a self-centred misogynistic bully.
