Sheffield strip club keeps licence despite opposition by feminist coalition

From the way the Guardian reports it (but does anyone think their reporting is unbiased) the undercover filming that campaigners organised has worked against them.

I think the licence will be reviewer again in a year. Have a horrible feeling that if it hadn't been "feminists" campaigning but "local" people the council would have acted differently. The patriarchy likes to be seen to slapping down uppity women.

They didn't even value the opinion of the local Rape Crisis Centre which works nearby. Sad

Yes you did quote her actual words.
Still don't get it though, do you?
Context is everything.
You're putting your spin on it and as a result can't or won't see what was actually said

If C meant 'it didn't happen unless i saw it happen and in which case I don't believe it happened as all the people coming through the door and working in the strip clubs i've worked at were lovely, there was never any bad behaviour and I'd be shocked that it has got to this' I'd understand the context.

What was actually said [well, typed], was that it was bollocks and it didn't happen.

I have no spin to put on it, I only really give a shit about people being co-erced and trafficked. Whatever other people want to do that's on them. But those were the actual words, typed into a computer by someone who purports to have worked in this industry.

I've worked in highly regulated industries before and if an expose came out about bad practices I'd be 'yeah, i can see that happening'.

It seems the stripper protests far too much about how perfect this industry is. And that doesn't concern you in any way? Well, that's for you to decide. But then again, you believe men can turn into women, and there is no harm intended by men in any way - so I guess you'd believe anything. It does kinda frame your stance somewhat.

Somerville · 20/09/2019 10:01

...the women in Spearmint Rhino where there is belt and braces proof that the employer maintains an illegal, coercive and abusive working environment and the authorities won't do anything about it.

This is the reality. And those splitting hairs over whether they totally deny the evidence or are only lightly sceptical about it or accept it but it’s a one off, or indeed don’t accept it because of “unregistered feminists” or whatever that guff was, are scrabbling to avoid that reality.

littlbrowndog · 20/09/2019 10:01

Awesome Lang and tits

Just fantastic posts

RosesAndRaindrops · 20/09/2019 09:52

I quoted your actual words

I mean...please continue pretending you can't read, or understand context, you only "fool" each other

I quoted your actual words. If you cannot express yourself properly, then don't blame me.

If this is your level of communication, no wonder the only way you can express yourself is with no clothes on, swinging from chandeliers.

Inebriati · 20/09/2019 09:39

There were multiple breaches of regulations.
You refuse to explain how this could be managed in future.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 20/09/2019 09:37

just reading backwards through the thread, and this jumped out at me

It's not empowering for either [stripper or punter]. It's debasing of both

absolutely. reducing sex, love and friendship to a financial transaction debases all involved

LangCleg · 20/09/2019 09:37

Also apologies to whoever asked about what we talk about with the customers. Yes, it is majority about the wives and the kids. I'm sure that's all manner of bizarre. Also don't you think we tell them when they're spending all this money that they should be better!!!!

Oh Cunt. Can you hear yourself? This is literally "my wife doesn't understand me" crude, unreconstructed 1970s sexism. It's embarrassing. I'm cringing for you.

You and Courtney have painted a picture of vaulted ceilings with women soaring thirty feet in the air and men gazing in awe at her splendour, while others provide gentle counselling to the poor vulnerable men whose wives don't understand them and persuade them to do better. They are happy to turn over £480 an hour for the privilege of time in the company of these empowered women. And even if it isn't all quite that kumbaya yet, we shouldn't worry because the path of evolution is some kind of Bob Fosse Does Cirque du Soleil and it'll be so wonderful and artistic all the punters will completely forget about rubbing one out.

And yet... when we awake from the fever dream.

We still haven't addressed the topic of the thread because that is the women in Spearmint Rhino where there is belt and braces proof that the employer maintains an illegal, coercive and abusive working environment and the authorities won't do anything about it. If it was any other industry concerned with anything other than the exploitation of women, do you really believe the regulatory regime would be allowed to fail in such a way? Deep down, you know it wouldn''t. Get yourself out of denial.

It's offensive to make those women invisible.

Here are some other women it's offensive to make invisible: the wives of the punters and the diversion of hundreds of pounds from the household budget for every hour the punters spend looking at your tits and moaning about them behind their backs. What about their kids? Why aren't those hundreds of pounds being invested in them?

This is the arse end of vile neoliberal capitalism. The cult of the individual. The I'm alright Jack, so fuck the next woman, there's no such thing as society, neoliberal capitalism. So long as an individual is happy, no shits given for others who are exploited or abused, or the draining of resources from thousands of households who need them.

It's not empowering. It's not feminism. It's not progressive or left wing politically. It's vile, rapacious neoliberalism. Stop waxing lyrical, stop covering it over with purple prose and woo, and JUST OWN IT.

Courtney555 · 20/09/2019 09:34

Read her post at 08.43 for context and explanation.
Which was explained earlier in the thread too.
Context to the "bollocks" "never happened" is everything.
You'll (general you) only see what you want to see so I don't even know why I'm bothering.

They literally live for this Roses. All ten+ years of my career they've tried to bombard us with this bullshit behaviour. They love to pretend they can't understand. To deliberately misinterpret. To claim their theoretical "knowledge" is so superior, whilst simultaneously acting like they can't understand anything that shows otherwise.

You watch...one of them will turn that into something like "oh look, the happy hooker called us stupid". A primary school level of understanding knows that's not true. But that's literally the level our industry puts up with.

Like I said, women like you who actually take them time to listen, are in a fast growing crowd. And god, it's about time. I've always got the time to answer any questions. With genuine, real, experience. I want people to understand the reality, not theorise it and spout this theory like it's the law. I'm so pleased that their illegal attempt to film us like little abused caged animals is now biting them in the arse. It's backfired and so busy being full of their own self imposed importance, they even didn't see it coming. That's what happens when you only want to listen to the stories of people who support your agenda, instead of the majority who live and breathe that life.

Very passionate wasnt it bernard

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 20/09/2019 09:32

Where did cunt go

I bet she has some good ideas about how to make any dodgy clubs obey the rules

In fact i think what i was agreeing with upthread is one of her ideas

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 20/09/2019 09:32

good post at 08:25 OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg

Courtney555 · 20/09/2019 09:20

I mean, we can get Crayola out if we need to. Let's do that...

What's bollocks? Let's actually go down to the simplest of the simple Grin

Is it bollocks that any violations happened, as the lie above claimed I said.

Or is it beyond painfully clear that I think it's bollocks that they got a separate violation, every six seconds, continually, for 20 consecutive minutes and want to be shown where the supporting report that states this is.

I mean...please continue pretending you can't read, or understand context, you only "fool" each other Grin

I know, it just affirms what I'm saying

Yes, that the evidence was bollocks and that it didn't happen.

2BthatUnnoticed · 20/09/2019 09:14

TheAlternative you’re not wrong, it’s right there:

  • “bollocks is what it is”
  • “that just didn’t happen” You have more stamina than most.
Courtney555 · 20/09/2019 09:06

I know, it just affirms what I'm saying.

RosesAndRaindrops · 20/09/2019 09:05

Cross posted with Courtney there as so slow at getting that comment through! (Connection playing up)
Exactly! It is ridiculous.

RosesAndRaindrops · 20/09/2019 09:03

Courtney It's perfectly clear what you meant (the pp attaching a screenshot just shows it in context more so that's helpful at least.)

Courtney555 · 20/09/2019 08:58

You people are fucking hilarious.

It's quite clear what I mean.

Pretend you "can't understand" all you like.

TheAlternativeTentacle · 20/09/2019 08:51

No, Courtney didn't grin these pathetic attempts to deliberately misunderstand are embarrassing and really discrediting to them, not me.

By quoting you, i am discrediting myself?

Ok then, I'll just attach the screen shot where you said;
a - it was bollocks
b - it didn't happen.

Sheffield strip club keeps licence despite opposition by feminist coalition
Courtney555 · 20/09/2019 08:43

By what Courtney said though, I took to mean that she was saying workers " dodgy behaviour" wouldn't be representative of the entire industry as a whole.
Not that bad things never happen at all.

Correct. Because it's exactly what I did say. They know that's exactly what I meant too. They just act professionally offended and deliberately attempt to misinterpret.

Courtney said the evidence was bollocks. All 200 instances.

No, Courtney didn't Grin these pathetic attempts to deliberately misunderstand are embarrassing and really discrediting to them, not me. I'll repeat what I did say, just so you understand, as they'll find a way to misinterpret this repeat explanation too. Which is, when you think about it, to claim to have secretly filmed 200 separate violations in 20 minutes, that would equate to a separate violation captured every 6 seconds, for the whole 20 minutes and to me, that seems so impossible that I wondered just how many had managed to sneak their cameras in and film simultaneously to achieve such unbelievable frequencies. Say, 20 violations in an hour, I'd still say, not in any club I've ever experienced, but nevertheless, plausible. 200 violations in 20 minutes? Literally, I want to see this. Because that frequency, to me, is so far fetched that what they're calling "violations" as if it's all related to the dancers, is bollocks.

RosesAndRaindrops · 20/09/2019 08:34

Tentacle My comment was referring to the one Courtney just made at 8.02.

TinselAngel · 20/09/2019 08:29

As a retired widget maker you might even have insights into ways and means for improving conditions in widget factories.

It might be surprising to me that my happy widget making career wasn't shared by others, but yes, I hope this would be my response.

I hope I would put my energy into helping the widget makers organise and share best practice. It would take a lot more time and energy that shouting the issue down on the internet would, but would be more beneficial both to the widget makers and to the future of the widget industry which I love.

OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg · 20/09/2019 08:25

Why do strip clubs exist?

They exist because men feel entitled to see naked tits and cunts whenever they want to help them have a wank. It’s important that men shouldn’t be greatly inconvenienced when they have the urge to see naked tits and cunts, so strip clubs enable them to see naked tits and cunts without any more effort than googling their nearest strip club and paying some money. Many of the men who do this have wives or girlfriends at home, often perfectly attractive women with perfectly nice and functional tits and cunts of their own, but some men get bored of seeing the same tits and cunts naked and feel entitled to see different naked tits and cunts to wank over. Plus it’s not the same, is it? Their wife is a decent woman. These naked tits and cunts...well, they’re barely one step up from whores, aren’t they? If they had any self-respect, they wouldn’t be doing it. Don’t get these men wrong, they’re glad some women do, especially when there’s an aching cock to be serviced, but it’s not something they’d want their daughter to do.

The men who pay to see naked tits and cunts don’t care about the rest of the woman these naked tits and cunts are attached to. They don’t care what’s going on in their head. If their favourite tits and cunt left the club they’d be sad for a little while, but there’s some more naked tits and cunts just over there that their cock will get equally hard to, so that’s okay. They’re hardly going to stop coming just because one particular pair of tits and a cunt leaves, are they? They’re not going to waste time thinking about the rest of that woman’s life or why she left. They need some more images to have a wank to and why would they stop going when they’re entitled to see all the naked tits and cunts they want and it’s so easy for them to do it, no real effort required at all.

Most men who pay to see naked tits and cunts will have convinced themselves all the women with the naked tits and cunts love doing this as much as they love wanking over them. That way they don’t have to think about things like trafficking and coercion, because those things kill their buzz and - in most, though not all cases - make it more difficult to get a hard on. They convince themselves that when the girls with the naked tits and cunts smile and chat with them, they’re not just trying to get them to spend more money in the club. The girls really like them. In fact they’re pretty sure that they’re the special one that the girls would show their naked tits and cunt to without money changing hands, if things were different, because they really like his cock. He’s the King Cock. It’s not really a transaction at all...they like it.

Some men find the line between the type of women they used to respect and the naked tits and cunts in the club becoming a bit more blurred, and find themselves treating the former like they treat the latter. Some never really had that line in place to begin with. How can you respect women when they get their tits and cunts out as soon as you show them some money? They’re all the same. These men hear some of the women who like showing their naked tits and cunt talk about feeling empowered and having the real power over men and get very angry, because this confirms their own feelings of powerlessness that they don’t want to admit to. Is that what that whore down the strip club thinks? We’ll see about that... Is that how their wife feels? We’ll see about that...
