You really think any trans rights org is going to accept "trans kids change in the disabled toilets"?

asking if there's a law that would force the girls to use the changing room and change with them

I'm sure an attempt at creating a law like this is coming in some of the more woke areas.

Popchyk · 14/09/2019 23:58

Prodigal, but why would teachers protect Emily (who identifies as Ethan) from going into the boys' changing room?

And yet simultaneously facilitate Alfie (who identifies as Amy) going into the girls' changing room?

Why do they need to protect Emily?

And why are they facilitating Alfie?

Why are they treating the two students differently?

And what are the consequences for other pupils?

Basic questions that nobody seems to want to answer.

stucknoue · 14/09/2019 23:48

It's easily solved (and helps others too) by having a unisex disabled accessible toilet in every school (multiple in large schools). All public places over a certain size should also have a unisex toilet (again usually the disabled toilet) small cafes tend to have a single toilet anyway so might as well be two unisex self contained than a male and a female anyway.

Leisure centres could easily have unisex areas, it's helpful for families too because boys over a certain age mustn't go into female changing rooms but mums rightly worry about them, my local swimming pool has two fully accessible unisex changing cabins, works for all

anomoony · 14/09/2019 23:48

I remember a story of a US school with this policy where one girl protested, and so got her private changing room (the janitors cupboard or similar hmm ) and within a week or so, one by one, all the girls made the same request

I remember a TRA poster on Reddit's law subreddit who first wanted to know if they (singular) could demand access to girls' changing rooms. They were succesful and gained access. After a few days they were back, this time asking if there's a law that would force the girls to use the changing room and change with them, as everyone had started chaging somewhere else...

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 14/09/2019 23:39

If teachers retain enough common sense to protect Emily who wishes to be known as Ethan by not accommodating her wish to change with the boys because as much as they pretend otherwise they know that would put Emily/Ethan in danger then that's actually a good thing, but what about all the other girls?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 14/09/2019 23:36

If who you are is a boy who likes feminine things then I agree that you should be free to explore that. But not in the girls changing room, which a. you don't actually need access to in order to explore an interest in feminine things, unless "feminine things" is taken to mean the bodies of your female classmates and b. is for girls, because long experience has shown that they need spaces free from boys in order to protect both their safety and their privacy.

Popchyk · 14/09/2019 23:34

And isn't it telling that the number of girls who identify as trans is much larger than the number of boys who identify as trans?

And yet the guidance is all about how girls must accommodate boys in female spaces. That there is a hierarchy of entitlement to girls' spaces. And boys who claim to be girls always have priority in girls' spaces. Any girl who wants a single-sex space must leave the female space and seek a single-occupancy space elsewhere.

And piss all about how girls should be welcomed into the boys' changing rooms. And how boys must make way if they don't feel comfortable with girls in boys' spaces.

How many teachers will be telling 13 year old Emily who identifies as Ethan that yes, as she identifies as trans then it's fine for her to get changed with a class of 16 year old boys for football? And that there are absolutely no safeguarding issues because Emily is actually male. Because that's how she identifies. Emily is just like all the other boys.

💐bd. Keep on speaking out.

bd67th · 14/09/2019 23:25

Erish, I must have written about that twenty times on here by now. And yet the message doesn't get through. I will keep on writing out my hurt until the message does get through: that boys need to be kept away from girls in some circumstances to keep girls safe.

I can't try to forget my assault because it's so appallingly commonplace for a) boys to rape and sexually assault their peers (usually girls) at school (300 boy-on-peer rapes in English and Welsh schools per year reported to the police, goddess knows how many unreported) and b) men to sexually assault women in mixed changing rooms. I can't be quiet about it. I have to keep speaking out because I cannot stand by and let these arrogant entitled men put girls at risk.

zebrasdontwearbras · 14/09/2019 23:25

Take away the gender stereotyping, and what are "trans" people identifying with? How do you "live as a woman" if woman is being born with a womb and a vagina? Males can't do that - even with so called "gender reassignment surgery" - they are still not actually female. "Living as a woman" simply consists of a series of gender stereotypes - long hair, makeup, pink etc - that feminists have been fighting against for decades. There is no "pink" brain. There are no males who are actually women.

littlbrowndog · 14/09/2019 23:14

Exactly yoba

Stop with the trans boy or girl stuff. No such thing

Stop restricting kids with the label trans

YobaOljazUwaque · 14/09/2019 23:10

@Somebodyswatson
teachers aren't going to be able to tell the difference between a child living as a girl and a boy messing about

Oh do tell us the list of objective observations that teachers can make to correctly categorise whether a child is a boy or a girl.

I am certain any such list will be the most appallingly sexist BS.

Schools should be liberating all children from any expectations of gender conformity. Don't you see how damaging it is for any child to be indoctrinated into believing that there is any such thing as "living as a girl" or "living as a boy".

Kids with male bodies are all simply existing in a male body whatever that body is dressed in. Any male child is living as a boy no matter what his tastes, preferences and hairstyle might be. Widen the bandwidth of what boys can be. Trans ideology narrows and regresses and is anti-liberation.

Kids with female bodies are all simply existing in a female body whatever that body is dressed in. Any female child is living as a girl no matter what her tastes, preferences and hairstyle might be. Widen the bandwidth of what girls can be. Trans ideology restricts all girls, not just those with dysphoria, to sexist and repressive ideas that should be consigned to history.

SarahTancredi · 14/09/2019 23:08

Most gender dysphoric people don't want people of either sex to see their pre-transition bodies anyway

The very ones who insist on openly and publically changing/showering etc in the changing rooms of the opposite sex are the very ones that shouldnt be allowed within 100 feet of them.

If it was about safety a third space would be acceptable.

motorcyclenumptiness · 14/09/2019 23:08

Teachers are warned they would break the law if they failed to call transgender pupils by their new names and pronouns.
What law??
There needs to be an urgent review of the EHRC's fitness for purpose

littlbrowndog · 14/09/2019 23:07

And other kids shouldn’t be coerced into going along with it

It’s like telling kids. Ok some kid here believes the earth is flat.
so we all have to pretend we believe it otherwise we will be hurting the flat earth believers kids

As there been a falling out of brains when they wrote that draft

Ereshkigal · 14/09/2019 23:04

bd67 Thanks so sorry that happened to you.

bd67th · 14/09/2019 23:02

Two older boys sexually assaulted me in a mixed school changing room. I was eight and I continue to suffer the psychological consequences, including self-harm, depression, fear of biological males, and suicide attempts. I never want another little girl to go through that.

Had I known that children over eight were meant to keep out of mixed changing rooms, I might have screamed, fled, or fought back. Not sat wrestling with a broken shoe lace whilst they walked up to me and surrounded me. I wish I had known my rights.

I demand that the right to single-sex changing rooms and toilets at schools be extended to children of all ages, not just those over eight. I demand that girls be taught that no boy is allowed in the girls loos and changing rooms and be taught that they have the right to challenge and defend their spaces.

When girls are taught that they must accept boys who claim to be girls into their spaces, they are taught not to challenge boys "because they might be trans". They are taught not to defend their spaces because "it's transphobic" to do so. This makes it easier for boys and men to enter girls' spaces unchallenged. It makes it easier for boys and men to sexually assault girls. It increases the number of girls and women suffering the life-long psychological sequelae of male entitlement.

Let the trans child have the private changing room. This respects their desire not to be treated like the other children of their own sex whilst respecting the right to single-sex spaces of the children of the opposite sex. Most gender dysphoric people don't want people of either sex to see their pre-transition bodies anyway.

Why does exploring who you are always start (and end, it seems) with bathrooms? You are where you piss?

Popchyk · 14/09/2019 22:57

It is so jaw-dropping that this is where we are:

Male children should NEVER be forced to get changed in front of male children.

Therefore female children must ALWAYS be forced to get changed in front of male children.

Male children should be able to decide if they want to use either single-sex or opposite-sex changing facilities. There are two choices available to them, which is right and proper.

Female children should always be forced into opposite-sex changing facilities. There are no choices available to them, which is right and proper.

This is 2019.

littlbrowndog · 14/09/2019 22:55

But what does that even mean explore who they are

What’s with the lies ?
You can’t change your sex. Stop peddling lies to kids

Lumene · 14/09/2019 22:51

Yes, this:

We need to have a philosophy in education where everyone is free to explore who they are, and carry out the necessary measures to do so. But no one else is to feel uncomfortable or at risk due to these explorations.

Creepster · 14/09/2019 22:51

Most of the time the rule are written so that both males and females who identify as transgender can use the Female loo and changing room.
Public toilets are doing the same thing, designating one for men and the former women's loo is now mixed sex.

Mummyoflittledragon · 14/09/2019 22:51

My dd has just started secondary. She is already prepped on the subject. Idk if I should tell her about this change. She could freak even if nothing happens. What really pisses me off is the schools will just implement this and not inform the other parents a penis is in the girls changing rooms or vis versa.

zebrasdontwearbras · 14/09/2019 22:50

I do think if mothers withdrew their free labour from schools it would have a serious impact.

I know it would. Schools (particularly primary) rely on it. Fundraising, voluntary reading, volunteering on school trips, swimming etc. Women provide a lot of free labour to schools and this alone can be powerful.
