Can't be done due to Human Rights Act 1998. It means the person is sterilised and that breaches rights to privacy and family life.

The problem in all of this IMHO is that a person's perception of their "gender identity" can be recognised in law as equivalent to their "legal sex", rather than, for example, recognition of alternative legal status such as "male transgender" and/or "male transsexual".

It would take a hell of a lot of legal unpicking and very likely challenges and rulings under Human Rights Law to change the status quo. Not to say that that route should not be explored as a means of reconciling the problems and loopholes created by the current legal position.

Relaxing the conditions required to obtain a GRC is just going to make things worse as it removes all "gatekeeping", ie. safeguarding.

I think surgery should be compulsory before a GRC is issued.
And anyone self IDing should be legally required to apply for a GRC as soon as they self ID.

Under the United Nations Bangkok Rules regarding the minimum acceptable treatment of female prisoners, male prisoners are never to be housed with female prisoners and best practice is that male and female prisoners are kept in separate estates.

THAT is international best practice, and every one of the Anglophone counties are now in violation of it.

I understand that that the entire UK prison population has about 25 transmen in total, and they are all in women's prisons.

One thing that needs to happen is that female officers who're being expected to search male prisoners who claim to be woman need to file countersuits, with the support of their unions. They didn't sign up to be forced to search balls.

I wholeheartedly disagree with this. We’ve already seen a trans rapist attack women in a women’s jail. It’s putting the women in danger.
There are so many men turning into trans women in prisons for the sole purpose of being around women and the UK allows it. It seems only minorities have rights and everyone else just has to deal with it, regardless of the risk it involves.

Maybe these poor male-born transgender individuals could be fast tracked for surgery.

Suddenly decide you are a woman - ok - we've scheduled the removal of you penis and testicles for the day after tomorrow - ok? I think it may clear away some of the dysphoria quick quickly.

So, to be clear, a convicted sex offender with male genitalia has been placed in a women's prison and the prison authorities believe that it's the sex offender (still with working penis) who needs to be protected from the other inmates? That's certainly an, um, interesting way to view the situation. Not rational or reasonable or even vaguely sensible, but interesting for sure.

The person has 10 convictions of sexual assault on a male child over a period of three years and one conviction for cruelty.

Ah, so this person is a risk to males and is at risk of male vengeance. So the way to protect violent males from male violence is in a female prison.

However, she was in possession of a gender recognition certificate by the time her case came before the court last July, and is now being accommodated with other female prisoners.

I think it was to stop people switching gender in prison, in order to get transferred.

So it may have been if they had a GRC before they went to prison, not before they commit the crime.

But yes, obviously self ID would render the thinking behind it completely useless.

Quite refeshed by the correctly identified biology being reported here, needs to be used for such horrific stories, and needs to be the basis of all stats, especially crimes against women & girls stats
