Oh, Sam. It's OK to be a feminine man. Just be patient and wait for the right partner.

This looks like the first steps towards transition to me, and I have a strong sense of foreboding. Sam sounds deeply unhappy.

Sam Smith has a publicist.

This publicist knows all the tricks in the book. If you'd like to watch a TV series which talks about all the tricks of the self promotion trade, I recommend (genuinely actually) the Jade Goody three part series currently on Channel 4's on demand service.

It looks at how her vulnerabilities were exploited and she went along with it willingly almost as a hostage to it.

This is what's happening here.

This is a feminine gay man who doesn't want to admit it, and it's good for his career that he's in denial about it, and his PR team are exploiting his unresolved issues for financial reasons.

It's obviously the only way to stay relevant, cos obviously his music alone is failing to do that.

SirVixofVixHall · 15/09/2019 14:13

Yes PropertyofHood he said at the time that he felt he had “women’s feelings” because he wanted to do sexy “womanly” dancing or some other such offensive guff.

Pinkarsedfly · 15/09/2019 13:34

Or a lady dick move? It gets very confusing.

Pinkarsedfly · 15/09/2019 13:34

‘A dick move’.

Tut tut. Don’t you mean a fanny move?

sheshootssheimplores · 15/09/2019 13:20

Anyway he has now ruined his music for me so the pronoun thing was a dick move. His recent song came on the radio yesterday and I just flicked it over so unconsciously that I suspect I’m done.

Propertyofhood · 15/09/2019 13:13

I can’t get that “womanly” dancing he did out of my head either.

When that video came out I thought 'oh that's cool, he is turning things on their head, it does seem weird watching a man dancing like this, but it's a good way to break down stereotypes'.

Now, after what he has said, presuming that video is actually only feauturing his 'girly' side I'm just like...

Propertyofhood · 15/09/2019 13:10

He captioned the green pants picture "hot girl summer" on Instagram. Is that why he's in such a ditzy pose?

Yes, because posing like a dead behind the eyes robot is definitely not for men. Only for 'girls'.

Micaela64 · 15/09/2019 12:23

All I'm saying the photo in the green pants - there is definitely nothing feminine about that

SirVixofVixHall · 15/09/2019 10:54

Agree. They are all so mind numbingly dull. Extreme self obsession is never an attractive trait.
I can’t get that “womanly” dancing he did out of my head either. How is he getting praise for this, when it is all so fucking offensive ?
Wiggle away Sammy, it doesn’t make you half laydee.

Pinkarsedfly · 15/09/2019 09:46

Agreed. Lyrics going on about not wearing makeup on Thursdays, look what you made me do, this is me, I am strong, I’m weak, whatever...who cares?

Who. Fucking. Cares?

MockersthefeMANist · 15/09/2019 09:33

Well, quite. Who are all these solipsistic twats?

The breakthrough, when pop music became something more than just a catchy tune, was when the Beatles started writing songs in the third person. Today's crop are wedded to the crudest of frst person whinges, about how I feel happy/sad, and occasionally how you make me feel happy/sad. Mostly, they suffer from the pain and anguish of coming from stable, supportive middle-cass homes when all they want is to be coal miner's daughters and throwaways from New Orleans brothels, or so they imagine.

Pinkarsedfly · 15/09/2019 09:20

Imagine how much less interesting and totally amazing David Bowie would have been if, instead of turning up with long hair, makeup and a frock in the Seventies and blowing everybody’s minds/enraging their dads, he’d have gone on Nationwide or whatever, bleating about his pronouns and finally ‘being himself’.

Gah. Popstars today are so fucking boring and worthy. Just live your life in a way that interests and amazes and satisfies you and do it without the fucking boring essays, please.

Sheesh.

That pose.... bizarre hybrid of knitting pattern man and a rural am dram group leader.

Spot on Grin

Sam Smith apparently didn’t know the 80s happened. There was loads of freakin cross gendering back then and it was awesome.

Also that Look what you made me do song makes my skin crawl.

SirVixofVixHall · 15/09/2019 00:12

In speedos.

Symptomless · 15/09/2019 00:12

I've got no time for anyone who is offended by a pronoun.

terryleather · 15/09/2019 00:12

Once again we should look to Magdalen...

The twitter exchange is quite a bit longer, that was all that would fit in the shot and I was too enraged to read on.
Also have just seen Richard Herring tweeting about why is it hard for people to use the chosen pronouns etc.
I think that “ why not just be nice, do what the other person wants, it is all harmless” is so dangerous. Underneath it all is the enforced lie, and the power of the person who enforces the lie. Why don’t more people see that ?

BringTheBounceBack · 15/09/2019 00:03

The green pants wouldn’t even be half as bad if it wasn’t for the strange pose and the straw hat. What the fudge

SingingSands · 14/09/2019 23:46

That twitter exchange is ridiculous. There are 7 billion people on this planet. 7 billion. Imagine if we all started demanding our own pronouns. I don't remember the names of half the people I meet on a daily basis - they are clients or visitors or patients or volunteers etc. Imagine if each of them started insisting on different pronouns? It's madness.

I'm struggling with the entitled attitude of this. I wouldn't generally use someone's pronouns in front of them, would I? And what words I use to talk about someone when they're not there to hear it is just policing my thoughts, surely?

Pinkarsedfly · 14/09/2019 22:41

That green pants picture makes me think he’s about to come out as Keith Lemon.

BR540 · 14/09/2019 22:05

My sister and I decided tonight that we are happy to use the pronoun ‘twit’ for drippy Sam.

Twit = it (because a single person can’t be a ‘them’) + twat

sheshootssheimplores · 14/09/2019 22:04

I was speaking to my partner about this earlier. I said the thought of him turning up at work on Monday and demanding that all his colleagues refer to him as ‘they’ would be so bafflingly arrogant. So for five years they’ve called you him/he and now suddenly they need to remember you’ve changed your pronouns.

As if work isn’t stressful enough most days but now fifty odd people have to remember the boss isn’t a he. It would be terrifying.

OkayGo · 14/09/2019 20:19

Goodness that exchange is infuriating
