In light of his declaration that he may run as an independent candidate. Just wanted to confirm that I met with him and he thinks he whole agenda is rubbish. He gave his team a hard time right in front of me for not thinking about the topic before going off a party line to me. Was refreshing.

She said there were lots of concerned MPs across the parties who understand the conflict of the GRA reforms with other protected groups’ rights but no-one’s talking about it because its so toxic and they don’t want the abuse. She also said I shouldn’t worry because there was zero chance the Tories would enact the reforms.

If she as a Labour MP doesn't have the courage to oppose this stuff when it's being pushed by the Conservatives, how is she going to stand up against her own party, if Labour wins the next GE and picks up the self-id baton as promised by Corbyn?

She also said I shouldn’t worry because there was zero chance the Tories would enact the reforms.

Not good enough, because there's every chance her Labour colleagues, possibly in league with the LibDems and the SNP, will gladly enact the reforms given half a chance. In fact, I could see it being one of the issues should a coalition be necessary.

He's the MP for a neighbouring constituency and has always come across as rational and humane, unlike the puppet representing here Hmm.

I’m not going to out her on here because of the monitors by the way, so don’t bother asking.

I had a long chat with my Labour MP on the doorstep recently, as she was knocking doors in the area. She fully understood the gender vs sex issue and that a lot of public sector guidance was misrepresenting the EqA2010. She understands the problems for women’s sex-based rights. She said the Labour policy statements on the GRA and TWAW were not properly discussed in the party before the announcement, including a failure to consult the party’s women’s officers. I told her that, as things stand, every party bar UKIP has publicly supported the reforms, that many women (and men) are angry about this issue and the party’s current stance will lose it votes at the next election. I also said public sentiment on this issue is turning/hardening, particularly because of the sports issue. I said it was time for GC MPs to show some backbone on this issue and show support for their brave colleagues like Joanna Cherry who have spoken up. It was a very good discussion and I feel more comfortable voting for her, having discussed this with her.

MPs really need to start debating the GRA reforns properly.

Good to hear this OP. Let's hope he speaks publically on this. Him and other MPs who feel the same way.

MoobaaMoobaa · 08/09/2019 15:09

I'm pleased to read your OP.
Dominic Grieve has always seemed to come across as an actual decent politician.

BlackForestCake · 08/09/2019 14:17

I don't believe any Tories are GC. Just thinking transgenderism is nonsense doesn't make you GC.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 08/09/2019 14:13

And this highlights the problem - they all think it's a load of rubbish and understand the risks to women and children. Yet none of them dare speak out. I know the civil service have been captured to a ludicrous level so presumably they are able to exercise an influence way beyond their pay grade?

donquixotedelamancha · 08/09/2019 12:19

Please note, Dominic Grieves need not be Tories, just thoughtful, honourable people

I think anyone who is a DG under this Prime Minister is no longer welcome in the Tory party.

Ereshkigal · 08/09/2019 11:35

Well done Dominic. Now please speak out about it, what do you have to lose?

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 08/09/2019 11:33

Really pleased to hear Dominic Grieve is as sensible on this as he is on other matters.

If we had a houseful of Dominic Grieves we'd be in a much better place.

(Please note, Dominic Grieves need not be Tories, just thoughtful, honourable people)

Very good to hear
