In light of his declaration that he may run as an independent candidate. Just wanted to confirm that I met with him and he thinks he whole agenda is rubbish. He gave his team a hard time right in front of me for not thinking about the topic before going off a party line to me. Was refreshing.

I don't believe any Tories are GC

My Conservative MP is GC. I contacted her recently about the Safer Schools Alliance's concerns re the EHRC's one-sided "consultation" with Stonewall, Mermaids, etc. She's onto it.

Next election, she'll be up against the Lib Dem candidate, Helen Belcher.

No contest about where my vote will be going.

AtillatheHun · 09/09/2019 08:17

Dominic Grieve did however abstain from the vote on gay marriage.

ConfusedMoi · 09/09/2019 08:14

Tories not stories!

ConfusedMoi · 09/09/2019 08:14

Dominic Grieve is my MP and one of the very few high profile stories that I actually admire. I'm very happy to hear that he is GC and I would vote for him if he were independent. He was ousted as AG by Cameron probably because of his very vocal support for the European Convention on Human Rights which the Tories wanted us to withdraw from to have our own Bill of Rights. I think he's someone of principle and I also like that he's challenging Boris (but that's something for the Brexit board)

I didn't know what his views were on the gender identity question but was secretly hoping that he was GC.

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 09/09/2019 07:43

Good to hear OP. I admire the chap even more now.

My MP is, and she is a member of a Tory MPs feminist group. You don’t need to be left wing to be a feminist.

TimeLady · 09/09/2019 07:33

She also said I shouldn’t worry because there was zero chance the Tories would enact the reforms.

Meant to add...I think that statement is true. We should, however, be worried, as there's still every likelihood that a combination of the other parties will topple the Tories sometime soon.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 09/09/2019 05:25

I am pleased to hear this, OP, but I really wish some of these people would speak up.

ChattyLion · 08/09/2019 23:56

Slight thank you for both raising it and coming on here to mention it, that’s great.

ThePurported · 08/09/2019 21:55

I suspect some tories were trying very hard to make up for all the shittiness about gay rights in the past- thinking this was the same.

Yes, I'm sure that was a factor.
But the suggestion that cross-dressers' (

I wrote to him about Karen White and received a complete woke waffle reply back. I was going to continue the conversation but he was convicted of criminal activity a so that put an end to that conversation

poshme · 08/09/2019 21:37

Aberhonddu- ironically, that Tory MP was fairly GC.

poshme · 08/09/2019 21:37

Kazooboohoo- I'm not sure you understand what GC means.

ThePurported · 08/09/2019 21:24

What was the common sense Tory argument for streamlining the process for men to 'become women' on their say-so, Kazoo? Was is

  1. listening to lobbyists
  2. thinking that women's rights are a bit airy-fairy?

I'm open to other suggestions, but those two seem to be the main reasons why we are where we are today.

Aberhonddu · 08/09/2019 21:21

The Tory MP where I live was recently deselected because of criminal activity relating to his expenses. There was a by election, I was contacted by many Lib Dem activists, over and over again.i told them that I'll never vote for a party that isn't able to recognise the definition of a woman. They were surprised. One called to my door and I engaged him in conversation of a Gender Critical nature. I mentioned that I would not vote for a party that endorsed Sarah Brown on Twitter and would never support a party that supported Aimee Challenor. He'd not heard of either of these people. I told him to just google Aimee and Sarah Brown. He very proudly told me that his niece was in the process of becoming his nephew. I then told him that as a 50 something man, he should realise that Human beings cannot change Sex. The successful candidate was the Lib Dem, I'll find out soon enough if she is as woke as her minions

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 08/09/2019 20:53

No real Tory is GC
No Tory member I have ever met believes the likes of Aimee Challenor, Bruce Jenner, Sarah Brown are women. They are men.

Have I understood what GC means, i thought it meant gender critical?

You don't need to be a feminist to be gender critical.

You said it yourself in your own list, point number one.
He's critical of gender ideology.

XXcstatic · 08/09/2019 20:30

Surely David TC Davies is GC, but is not a feminist? Which is ok - I'll take his stance any day over all the woke bros who Instagram themselves wearing "This is what a feminist looks like" T shirts, but who can't see the problem with putting rapists in women's prisons Hmm

donquixotedelamancha · 08/09/2019 20:07

Try looking up David TC Davies.

He's not GC. His views would align with GC feminists on very little. The reason he has supported them is:

  1. He recognises that Genderism is harmful.
  2. He supports free speech.
  3. He has the courage of his convictions; coz, boy, he got some shit for it.
  4. He listened to women, who were not natural allies, when no one else would.

That said, I'm sure some Tory members are GC, it's just that they tend to skew towards gender determinist.

TimeLady · 08/09/2019 19:52

I am. And so are my Tory-voting friends.

poshme · 08/09/2019 19:49

'No tories are GC'

Try looking up David TC Davies.

Hosted an event in Parliament to discuss gender. Got masses of abuse for it. He's a Tory.

XXcstatic · 08/09/2019 19:42

Why? Do you think the left has a monopoly on caring about women's rights? Because all the evidence suggests otherwise. The Tories do at least seem to have woken up to the downsides of Maria Miller's proposals. If Labour, the Greens or the Lib Dems were in power, self-ID would already be law.

I'm left-leaning myself but it is shooting ourselves in the foot to alienate potential allies from the rational, socially liberal Right. Having read the Guardian all my adult life, I have switched to the Times because of their willingness to challenge the self-ID orthodoxy. The readers, many of whom are presumably Tory supporters (given the Times' political stance), are about 99% GC.

MoobaaMoobaa · 08/09/2019 17:36

Not good enough, because there's every chance her Labour colleagues, possibly in league with the LibDems and the SNP, will gladly enact the reforms given half a chance. In fact, I could see it being one of the issues should a coalition be necessary

The fact part of Labour are trying to deselecting MPs like Diana Johnson, to get one of their own in, will make it even harder for Labour MPs to discuss this in the future.

boatyardblues · 08/09/2019 17:27

Quite.
