Just came across this article on Facebook, Vox page. Aside from being extremely badly written is also a terrible representation of what gender critical means comparing it to being a white supremacist! I can’t formulate a good response right now I’m too angry 😡

It doesn't surprise me that some high-profile GC feminists are happy to link up with religious fascists. They seem to be, if not the same people, at least following the same lines as the pro-censorship/anti-sex feminists of 20/30 years ago (who were equally happy to hang out with the appalling right-wing fish-heads). Many of them also support the Nordic Model on sex work, which has been shown over and over to put more women at more risk. And then there have been one or two coming out in opposition to abortion rights, because access to abortion allows men to have PIV sex with women and eek, yuk, waah, anything which involves PIV sex needs to be stamped out...

This article is a classic

Katelyn Burns' twitter timeline is full of people telling them how beautiful they are. This is what they get told constantly. Do you know any women in their 30s who put endless selfies up? Because I don't.

This is about validation.

OrchidInTheSun · 06/09/2019 11:47

I'm not the poster who wrote that but I'm sure she wouldn't say that about a natal woman. I don't understand the relevance. Why do we have to pretend they look like women? They don't.

popehilarious · 06/09/2019 11:43

Stuff like this isn't pointing out that a bloke is a bloke, it's specifically comparing feminine appearances:

"I’m not especially feminine but next to KB I’d look like a proper dainty little thing..."

Would you say that about a natal woman? Is that the only argument you have with them? Of course not. It just cheapens what we are actually arguing imo.

Ereshkigal · 06/09/2019 11:42

A trans and feminist friend of mine has reacted to this saying that radical feminists should not be conflated with transphobes i.e.the term TERF is problematic

Works for me. Happy for them to drop the term.

Let's see how many of them go for it when they're not directly singling out women. Because that is a big part of it for many of them. Very little take up, I imagine. Even less so for the woke misogynistic men who want a subclass of bad disobedient women who they can abuse with impunity.

Fraggling · 06/09/2019 10:56

Yes of course women can look how they want and be gender non conforming

But to say that you shouldn't point out that a bloke is a bloke because it's the same as policing how women look is ridiculous.

OrchidInTheSun · 06/09/2019 10:26

Gender non-conforming I mean. And actually Burns is trying to look terribly gender conforming. Conforming to an idea of woman.

OrchidInTheSun · 06/09/2019 10:21

People can look as gender conforming as they like. But it doesn't make them women.

Pandering to the delusion that a middle aged not particularly attractive man can grow his hair, wear lipstick and tilt his head and be indistinguishable from a woman is part of how we got here.

We thought we were being kind - turned out we were just fuelling the notion that they are women which has led to Burns writing articles like this, like the one where Burns alleges that transwomen have no advantages over women in sport.

popehilarious · 06/09/2019 09:52

I'm not going to bother reading this article but focusing on people's appearances is not a great thing to be doing.
A natal woman should be "allowed" to look as unfeminine as she damn well pleases so why should only certain people be required to look gender-conforming?

Surely there are bigger problems with what they're saying than what they look like.

Fraggling · 06/09/2019 09:44

The article seems to utterly erase all of the massive and groundbreaking and vital change secured by second wave feminists

And repaint the whole feminist movement over the last 50 years as having been focussed solely and exclusively on trans.

This is a massive wilful erasure of an enormous amount of women and all the change they secured.

So par for the course then.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 06/09/2019 09:41

While the hardcore in-person gender-critical organizing is largely run by a small handful of people.

This is an article drawing attention to the wicked ways of gender critical feminists, ways that pose an existential threat to the trans community. And yet the author also bothers to stress that only a handful of women are involved.

This is something I've noticed elsewhere. The double think - feminists are powerful and damaging and yet there are hardly any of them. Make your mind up.

Sunkisses · 06/09/2019 09:36

Posie Parker has written extensively on Facebook that this article is full of lies, libel and defamation. She did not get flown over to the USA by right wing organisations. She attended a meeting which was organised by feminists (WOLF) and was hosted by a conservative think tank because the 'left' in the USA has shamefully abandoned women and women's rights. The meeting gave a platform to lesbians and parents of children with ROGD. If you actually listen to the speeches made at that meeting they were brilliant and incredibly inspiring. We will never win this battle - politically and legally - if we sit around waiting for the 'left' to give a damn about women and girls

NellieEllie · 06/09/2019 09:14

I don’t have a problem with adults wanting to transition if they suffer from (diagnosed) dysphoria. I don’t think they should be harassed or discriminated against. So, in that way I am NOT like the “Terfs” referred to in the article, and I would wish to disassociate from such people. Feminists seem to be represented as opposing ALL recognition of trans people.
What I DO object to is self Id, and the ever widening definition of “trans”, so that the presence of men in women’s spaces is allowed, and any questioning becomes actionable as discriminatory.
I object to the transing of children and the education of children in fake “gender identity”.
This article attempts to place all opposition to the TRA train as part of a right wing intolerance, part of a real transphobia as opposed to just a rational view that TWA not actually W, and gender identity is a belief not a reality.

OrchidInTheSun · 06/09/2019 08:55

Boobindoop - because they don't want to be women, they want to be girls. See the thread about sissification

At present vast swathes of the public have no idea what is going on but they will find out eventually and when they do there had better be a moderate body politic for them to turn to because if the far right are the only group who will protect children the far right will get the votes. People have a limit beyond which they won't be pushed.

Yes.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 06/09/2019 08:38

Since when was the Heritage Foundation, a US conservative think tank, the 'alt-right'? Surely it is a mainstream right organisation by US standards.

People need to stop labelling everything marginally to the right of Pol Pot 'alt-right' it has become a meaningless term. If you label everything you disagree with 'extremist' then when real extremists show up no one will pay you any mind. You* will become the boy who cried wolf.

This is particularly important on this issue as trans privilege activists are targeting our children. This is an issue where the actual far right could and, if nobody else stands against trans ideology, will gain ground. Most people want their children protected from this nonsense. At present vast swathes of the public have no idea what is going on but they will find out eventually and when they do there had better be a moderate body politic for them to turn to because if the far right are the only group who will protect children the far right will get the votes. wizbitismynizbit · 06/09/2019 08:09

Let's change it to what it actually means shall we-

Rise of Women who say no and will no longer be gas lighted and I don't like it.

When reading it replace T3RF for what it really stands for, WOMEN. Becomes more even more sinister.

Incredibly poorly written, ill researched 'article' hit piece.

OccasionalKite · 06/09/2019 00:03

There's a lot of older women around, here, and we've see these tactics before

thegiantgirl · 06/09/2019 00:01

And yes it’s a really shit article but sadly concerning that a good number of people read this rubbish and agree with it!

I’m happy to be corrected about associating with the right wing in the US that I fact there are no alliances. It was only because I remember reading the threads when some meetings took place and felt disappointed. I don’t feel there really is any common ground between the alt right view and gender critical feminists.

OP posts:
ALittleBitofVitriol · 05/09/2019 23:57

The right wing accusations are not new. They used that tactic well before posie. See, they make the accusation so much that it's a self fulfilling prophecy, because then no left wing organisation will want to be seen as 'working with the right wing' so any dissenting left wing voices are default no platformed. Hardly surprising if desperate activists take any platform they can, it's not like they changed their message because a Christian group provided the stage!

It is so bloody tedious, this my tribe good, your tribe Hitler incarnate shite.

thegiantgirl · 05/09/2019 23:53

Ok thanks! Missed that thanks to time difference of living in Australia!
