This is so upsetting. Don’t open if you’re not prepared for very distressing image and content. But people should know.

Scott - I wish you well in recovering from the damage done by the botched surgery, and hope you can get some sort of redress from the surgeon. And I admire your bravery in speaking out.

MagneticSingularity · 15/10/2019 22:07

Scott Your story is heartbreaking and I can't imagine how difficult and painful it has been for you to go public. It's immensely important that you and people like you do keep coming forward though if only to alert other potential transitioners to these undisclosed dangers of surgery and other medical interventions. I hope you get the treatment you need now and lots of help with continued healing.

AncientLights · 15/10/2019 21:15

Scott not many here, probably nobody apart from Jellyslice, would fault you in the least for your passion about this. You have every right to be absolutely livid, I can't begin to imagine what you've been through. ♥️

TemporaryPermanent · 15/10/2019 21:12

Thanks for posting Scott. Your story is telling.

Do you have medical care you can trust now?

scottnew1972 · 15/10/2019 20:46

Hi Jelly,

I'm the actual person you are speaking about. Please don't comment on stuff you don't know anything about, especially when it has to do with that surgeon. It's dangerous. Take the time to read about him first.

This surgeon used the wrong skin to create a urethra that caused 6 inches of hair to grow on the inside of my urethra. Ever had an ingrown hair on your leg, try thousands inside you and where urine passes, the pain is something I cannot explain. Try sepsis for just a month and get back to me. In his care I had a massive PE, stress heart attack, sepsis and a ligament that protruded from my arm causing a handicapped arm. He also has 9 med mal cases against him in CA and 1 in texas where he just moved.

I don't blame any one for my decisions. I'm sorry I don't mean to be so passionate, I have read all the cases and been through it and it's comments like that, that allow more people to be hurt.

Goosefoot · 28/08/2019 01:43

Still, it'll all have to stop when we run out of antibiotics.

Yup. I suspect at that point people are going to be a lot less less focused on being validated constantly.

FormerMediocreMale · 27/08/2019 22:07

Agree with others, cosmetic surgery of any kind is becoming far too "fashionable". People need to learn to love and accept themselves.

Flowers for Scott

FannyCann · 27/08/2019 11:47

Sorry to hear of your story Arnold , you were very unfortunate.
But a story that needs shouting from the rooftops. I am horrified by the casualness with which not just these unnecessary surgeries but the growth of cosmetic surgery generally is treated. Surgery as a fashion statement. Confused
People have no idea.

A recent patient is seriously ill with sepsis and other complications from an infected cannula site.

Still, it'll all have to stop when we run out of antibiotics. Sad

SugarPlumFairyCakes · 27/08/2019 11:35

Horrific. For what it is worth, I think the language around surgery should be simplified even more.... I was always advised to pitch any technical terms at the level of a 12 year old to ensure understanding, so for me:
Breast removal
Penis removal
Etc..
Although how on earth to describe the arm surgery is beyond me. Maybe
Flesh removal from arm to make a pretend penis?

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 27/08/2019 11:20

I wish people would take surgery more seriously in general.

I know I probably sound like a stuck record but that's because I've had a surgical infection following minor surgery (a biopsy). I was rushed back into hospital and drip fed bucket loads of antibiotics, which as Scott points out, can have an impact later in life. I had to have the infection cut out leaving a wound big enough to fit my fist in. I was off work for four months while it healed. It took maybe three years for the muscle to fully regrow and strengthen. Even 19 years on I have no feeling in the area, you could stick pins in it and I wouldn't notice.

And I was lucky. I didn't die. I didn't have to have my leg amputated. I made a near complete recovery and all bar a couple of movements I find difficult have full use of my leg.

Surgery is always a risk. It should never be encouraged for purely cosmetic reasons and it sure as hell shouldn't be encouraged as a solution to what are mental health issues.

I'll stop ranting now.

Pota2 · 27/08/2019 11:08

Really scary. I hope people contemplating this sort of thing will take note of Scott’s predicament. Even if your arm is mutilated to make a fake penis, it will never be a real one. Wouldn’t it be good if you found someone who loved and accepted you for who you were born as?

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 27/08/2019 11:05

Scott seems to be in the US, yes, and refers to US based surgeons.

I've been following Forth Wave Now for some time and from the evidence they present surgery seems to be completely unregulated over there (again, not just with regards to trans surgeries but cosmetic surgery generally).

God knows our own NHS isn't perfect but across the pond really is the Wild West where surgeons are concerned. They can apparently play God with impunity.

Pota2 · 27/08/2019 10:33

Is this in America? Because surely surgeons and all medical professionals here have to have insurance? You would just sue the NHS or the private hospital.

I think that many of these people are more susceptible than most to falling victims to scams and dodgy cut-price surgery. There will be people preying on those who are vulnerable and with unrealistic expectations of what surgery will entail.

FannyCann · 27/08/2019 10:16

Wow. No insurance. Somehow I missed that little snippet in his article. Amazing. I wonder where they do the surgeries as I would expect any hospital giving them operating rights would expect insurance as a condition of employment or association.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 27/08/2019 09:45

though heaven knows what their malpractice insurance fees are.

You assume the have malpractice insurance. From Scott's blog

Do you know that surgeons don't have to carry medical malpractice insurance?

I'm also disturbed that Scott mentions Marci Bowers as an example of a good surgeon. Bowers was one of the surgeons involved in Jazz Jennings' 'transition'. If Bowers is held up as an example of 'good practice' I despair of just how bad a surgeon has to be before they are considered beyond the pale by trans ideologists. Bowers is an utter cowboy.

FannyCann · 27/08/2019 09:35

A little bit of legal background regarding malpractice cases against "renowned" phalloplasty surgeon Curtis Crane.

4thwavenow.com/2019/08/26/catching-up-with-renowned-phalloplasty-surgeon-dr-curtis-crane/

I'm sure we have all read of mad cases from the USA where people have been awarded huge sums of compensation for something that seems out of all proportion common sense and we think of America as a litigious society. But it seems far from simple pinning down these slippery surgeons, though heaven knows what their malpractice insurance fees are. But those insurers are skilled at making the cases go away. And this suggests that plaintiffs will be under strong financial pressure to accept a settlement early, of what would appear to be likely to be a comparatively modest sum after costs have been deducted.
Furthermore they are likely to have been forced to sign a non disclosure agreement, affecting the ability of patients to check out the competency of their surgeon before surgery.

Secret nondisclosure agreements also affect patient safety by allowing bad doctors and other dangerous medical providers to continue to harm patients because their incompetency is hidden from their present and future patients and employers.

Sorry for repeating! Didn't get to the end of the thread. Doh!

Hopefully that will work.

My heart goes out to Scott.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/08/2019 08:46

I read that the other day. Utterly grim. I hadn't realised Scott was so old. As others have said, if a 45yo can be manipulated into this kind of thing, what chance do teenagers have?

medium.com/@mariacatt42/talking-about-talking-to-doctors-49778915ed4 This Medium article is interesting. Dialogue between two women who detransitioned about what happened when one of them went back to talk to the doctor who referred her for hormones and surgery. So glad she got out well before the phalloplasty stage. It makes abundantly clear that professional standards in this area in the US are abysmal.

AnyOldPrion · 27/08/2019 08:45

Thanks Lamahaha

LangCleg · 27/08/2019 08:33

It’s actually starting to be recognised as a form of domestic abuse: get your partner to transition, then leave them.

WTF?

Lamahaha · 27/08/2019 08:30

Here.
thetransgendertruth.wixsite.com/mysite/post/ftmbottom-phalloplasty-dream-realty-the-wild-wild-west-of-transgender-surgery

In my first post I made a mistake. It should read The Wild Wild West of Transgender Surgery, not of "Phalloplasty".

AnyOldPrion · 27/08/2019 08:22

Does anyone have a link to Scott’s website please? I can’t access Twitter.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 27/08/2019 08:04

I also agree that the doctor who performed this should be struck off.

Yes, but there are many surgeons carrying out these surgeries, and they are part of a wider issue of extreme body modification via surgery. The cosmetic surgery industry more widely is full of cowboys preying on people's insecurities. Regulation of the sector, especially in the US, is poor to non-existent.

They have a duty to be honest with their patients. This surgery cannot be in anyone's best interests.

Honest would start with using direct language, not twee euphemisms like 'top surgery', something the whole ideology seems to be pathologically incapable of. And no, surgical interventions in what are ultimately mental health issues are not in anyone's best interest and have a dark and dubious history. Seemingly we never do learn from the past.

It’s actually starting to be recognised as a form of domestic abuse: get your partner to transition, then leave them.

I've heard this before and just cannot wrap my head round the idea at all. How could anyone be so cruel?

Lamahaha · 27/08/2019 07:55

Interesting. I get a WOT (Web of Trust) red warning on that site for scam or phishing. The full WOT report gives no further information. Is that a genuine warning of scam or phishing, or is WOT woke beyond woke as well?

I did not get any warning. I accessed the site without a problem. My computer is protected.
