Take lots of hot showers! Enjoy them, you deserve it Flowers

Catmaiden · 30/10/2020 17:20

What are you scared of if you don't mind saying? Something specific about where you are? Or the stuff you have mentioned in the past?

Detroitdarkcafe · 30/10/2020 17:18

Thanks everyone. I've had quite a lot of help from people recently, for which I'm very grateful. This is only for a few days more, but I'm trying to get something fixed. I can't get over the shower! Inside shower. Hot water. Soap. It's heaven!

Detroitdarkcafe · 30/10/2020 17:15

I hope so too. I'm pretty scared!

Catmaiden · 30/10/2020 17:14

Oh I am so glad you are safe! Have lurked on your threads , and am really happy for you, with a bed and showers and in safety. 💕

Winesalot · 30/10/2020 16:53

Oh it is so good to hear that you have safety, a bed in a warm room and a shower. Hopefully something as permanent as you need can be organized.

Detroitdarkcafe · 30/10/2020 16:43

No fires close to here! I'm working with a very kind woman in housing to see what she can do for me, but it's going to take her time . Being city homeless was my biggest fear, but this was the only way to a safer situation. I'm ashamed I went so long without a shower, I know I can't have done as good a job at staying inoffensive as I might hope. I'm going to clean clothes today, which is another step forwards. This is a huge gamble for me, but it was that or end up dying in the forest. I could not do another winter this time in a pandemic! You would not believe what it's like to sleep in a real bed! Clean white sheets! A fridge! I'm a bit worried about heading downtown to see the charity org people. Getting over here was traumatic. It might actually be ok. I might actually win!

Stealhsquirrelnutkin · 30/10/2020 16:32

Most relieved to hear you are safe and sleeping in a proper bed with access to a warm shower, though sad to hear that you lost so many of your belongings. Wish it was a permanent situation. Are you still in an area close to the fires?

unwashedanddazed · 30/10/2020 16:18

What a joyful post - hot showers and a soft bed after all you've endured. I'm really happy for you. Such simple things but my goodness they mean so much to our well-being.

Stay safe.

Detroitdarkcafe · 30/10/2020 16:03

Things are just things, but the old guitar smarts a bit.
Hot water! I've got Blue playing on the TV which took me forever to work out. I didn't even know apple did tv. The next jump is a bit scary, but fingers crossed... My leg healed all wrong, my left foot doesn't straighten and it hurts all the time, so now I'm in a city I can try get it fixed. Once I've recovered a bit I'll start writing again. The city was the only option. What a year. Virus. Fires. Shut down. No showers. I didn't think i'ld ever feel clean again.

MichelleofzeResistance · 30/10/2020 15:43

Flowers I'm so glad to hear about the real bed and the hot water! So sorry about all the things you've lost. Be safe and comfortable. You most definitely need to write the book. Wine

Detroitdarkcafe · 30/10/2020 15:09

Guess who is sleeping in a real bed! I hadn't showered since February, just bucket washes....I've had 5 showers in two days! It's not permanent, but I feel so much better already. Hot water! It's been a long time since I slept in a bed. Lost my guitar, my record player, all my music stuff. But it was worth moving. I'm going to try write that book and survive this. Hope you are all well.

Detroit

As chiling and weaver have said, that sounds very frightening. It must be really difficult to plan anything under those conditions. Wishing you the very best and that the situation improves. Please let us know if we can do something to help you, the best of luck to get through this.

weaverbirds · 14/09/2020 11:47

It does sound absolutely terrifying Detroit. Thinking of you.

chliing19 · 14/09/2020 04:19

Sounds tough. We are all rooting for you. Please let us know if we can do anything to help.

Detroitinsixtyeight · 13/09/2020 23:02

Air is appalling. I was barely surviving the pandemic, but add this...there's nothing to be done. I did my darndest to get through. Too much.

Detroitinsixtyeight · 13/09/2020 15:29

Yes. Nothing to do. I'm in a spot which isn't burning, right now, I'm not in immediate danger It's very very smokey, and I don't want to try getting out as I'd have to go through areas which are active to do so. I'm actually lucky I've a camp spot. I just have to get through this smoke, not in a building, so it's a bit tough. I'm ok. How I live hasn't changed. Coughing up gunk, eyes stinging, but no evac order for here. Trying to be careful with location. I've food, water. I just stayed put and got lucky.

BovaryX · 13/09/2020 07:08

Hey Detroit
Just reading the thread. It sounds like you have had a very tough year. Are you caught in the wildfire zone? What can we do to help you?

chliing19 · 13/09/2020 01:58

Good to hear from you. Hope things improve.

Detroitinsixtyeight · 12/09/2020 22:55

Well, depends on if I can get inside. Not so easy right now, lovely. But as soon as I can I'll head out of mild winter temps areas and just get out of the west. It's ok. Pretty used to rough living. I've not had a shower since February, been washing in buckets! This year is miserable!

Winesalot · 12/09/2020 22:48

I hope that you can find somewhere safer soon Detroit somewhere where you can stay for winter.

Detroitinsixtyeight · 12/09/2020 22:38

Even bugs are spilling into this field. Bugs, birds, smoke. A few people who made it out here with very little. Pretty grateful for my bucket of potatoes, water flask and cans of sardines. I keep vacillating between panic and being utterly upset. The smoke is terrible, but that hot wind has gone, it's not red sky and ashes falling right now.

Detroitinsixtyeight · 12/09/2020 22:35

I've clean water, food for a few days, and my covid masks. I'm doing ok for now. Scared, coughing, but ok. I hope the weather starts to give the firefighters a chance and we can get out of here. I think out of the west coast is my only option at this point. Resources are going to be stretched, and covid will spread in the aftermath of this. One foot in front of the other. Been a tough year or so. My chest feels awful.

FireUnderTheHand · 12/09/2020 21:39

@Detroitinsixtyeight

To be frank I'm not sure how much more I can take. I'm doing my bit, I can safely heat water for people. I can't breathe, eyes stinging, no route out. The only mercy is right here isn't burning. I think I'm in shock. We had these terrible very hot winds. It just went up. The closest fire is doing ok. I may have reported bbqers. Just call me Karen. I'm getting used to it. Total grouch, me. Need to learn how to be nice. Hah.
No need to be nice. Good on you for reporting BBQers, seems pretty fucking stupid TBH to risk a random ember floating along considering the current situation.

Hoping you have clean water and something to cover your eyes/face for moments of relief.

Beyond terrible that you are stuck in such a state; thinking of you.
