Stop. Such a heartfelt post. Wish you 💕💕and safety

Flowers Stoptheplanet. Very scary. Are you at risk of flooding too? I will keep fingers, toes and all appendages crossed for you.

Good to hear you're settled in the new place Detroit Hope you can find somewhere a bit more settled. Lesbian lands sounds intriguing - I haven't heard of these before.

zebrasdontwearbras · 31/08/2019 20:03

StopThePlanet - oh my gosh - that is scary! Hoping that storm misses your home, please stay safe. Thanks

Detroit - glad you are hanging in there. Stay strong Thanks

DarkcafeDetroit68 · 31/08/2019 19:55

I love csny.
But mcgwinn was right about not playing that damn hippy freak out orgy song, triad. Taboos are taboo for a reason. I don't want others kinks shoved in my face.

Today, in an anti hippy mood, I'm playing white heat white light by the velvet underground. I both hate and love Lou Reed in equal measure.

On the plus side my water usage is tiny. Hauling water takes up a lot of time and energy. I barely use electricity. I feel quite environmentally friendly, and my less washed hair is looking rather bouncy now, not ratty.

DarkcafeDetroit68 · 31/08/2019 19:35

Tis me. Detroit. I can't beat long legged owls, just a few deer, and bear reports. The usual chipmunk, squirrels and fat robins. There's cougar warnings, but I've not seen sign of them.

It's been pretty tough. Busy campsites, loud people. I'm willing my way past labor day weekend.

I've decided to get on the move pretty soon.

I'm looking into the lesbian lands options, I'm not a lesbian, though consider attraction to men as the single most dangerous thing that ever happened to me. I just want to live my life out quietly.

I'll catch up on the board, make tea and try and see what's going on in the world now I have internet again.

Stoptheworld, please be safe! That's some scary weather you have heading your way. May your basement stay dry and your butterfly bushes survive. Hug x

CharlieParley · 31/08/2019 17:05

StopThePlanet take care of yourself and your loved ones. I hope this storm will not be as bad as you fear and that your butterfly bushes come through it alright.

Detroit Thinking about you a lot. Felt thoroughly disillusioned this week but your story keeps on reminding me why I am fighting for our rights.

Be safe, be well and don't lose hope.

StopThePlanet · 31/08/2019 16:04

Detroit

Hey lady! Thinking about you as we finish boarding up our home and planning our escape route (if necessary - hurricane Dorian). Every time we do this we have to think about the possibility that our home will be gone when we return from safety. Nothing like your situation but still daunting.

This building has been here since 1952 and the home we built using this building is not fancy or extravagant but it holds almost three decades of our memories - triumphs, pain, love, failures, and joy. Our yard has the bodies of our beloved pets long passed, buried with love and care - the butterfly bushes serving as headstones have made it through so many storms. I fear not the loss of the building or trivial landscaping but those butterfly bushes hold for me a range of love and memories of my girls that only visit me in dreams - as silly as it may sound those butterfly bushes are my last physical connection to them. This morning a beautiful monarch butterfly was hanging about with a beautiful yellow butterfly - I said goodbye to my girls again just in case that representation is ripped from the earth.

The "bin of memories" is packed (photos, my last bday card from my deceased Grandma, some other small items) - this building contains years of accumulated things but it isn't the things that make this place a home, we carry home with us.

The dogs love adventure and car rides and they are both finally off of their meds so caring for them will bring peace and comfort to us without too much worry. They are a big part of home, their unconditional love is met by no other - but that is their magnificent nature.

I want you to know that if I go silent and don't check in for a while to not be concerned. We are likely to be without power at the very least for 1 - 3 weeks so I will likely be conserving phone battery power (if we don't evacuate) I'm glad you and most of our friends here on FWR are far from this storm.

To you Detroit and all of my FWR comrades, Flowers see you once the threat or destruction is over. We are old hats at this so we will make the best of it no matter the outcome.

See you all soon! 😘XX

Oldstyle · 30/08/2019 23:32

Hope you sleep well tonight Detroit. Sending love.

redredrobins · 29/08/2019 22:27

I've not posted on this thread before Detroit, but my thoughts are with you.
Here's hoping you feel better soon, stay strong, you are an amazing woman.

Michelleoftheresistance · 29/08/2019 16:55

Dropping by to leave you these Flowers and Brew Thinking of you and hoping the dizziness is better.

Oldstyle · 29/08/2019 16:30

Hoping that today has been ok for you Detroit and that you have a safe place to camp tonight.

GirlDownUnder · 29/08/2019 10:06

Just checking in Detroit

Hope you’re feeling a little stronger. Fingers crossed you find a camp or spot you can rest up in peace. Maybe find a friendly passing face for a hello and smile.

May your day be uneventful Brew

BickerinBrattle · 28/08/2019 18:04

Wishing you well, Detroit and echoing everyone’s sentiments that your voice is vital.

For some reason, I can’t post a clicky-link, but there are several feminist communities in the US you can find by Googling “lesbian lands USA.” Not all of them are lesbian-only. Perhaps one of them could be an option for you? Or at least a supportive neighbouring community while you sort out options?

It’s such a crime that TW are so intent on robbing women of the spaces we ourselves created for sanctuary, because no one else would create those spaces for us. The theft of female resources is exactly what patriarchy is all about. They gender themselves as male, by what they do.

LangCleg · 28/08/2019 08:26

I can recommend crochet, Detroit. No dropping of stitches, like knitting!

2BthatUnnoticed · 28/08/2019 01:58

Thanks OP for sharing with us. Your voice is valuable and deserves to be heard, I’m in awe of your resilience. I hope you find a great place where you can feel settled and comfortable. Flowers

70sWitch · 28/08/2019 01:50

That is a very nefarious looking owl. Smile

nettie434 · 28/08/2019 00:28

Hope you stop feeling dizzy soon Detroit

Oldstyle · 28/08/2019 00:17

And an owl with unexpectedly long legs:

Oldstyle · 28/08/2019 00:15

Yes - lists are useful. And purpose. Any sense of moving towards something rather than being stuck. Hope you feel less ill soon.
Here are some more hugs and Mary Oliver:

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting -
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.

Hoping you find your place before too long...

Detroitinnineteensixtyeight · 27/08/2019 23:58

Virtual hugs and good vibes are very much appreciated.

I'm sorry for being so nervous, I'm pretty terrified of being located at this point.

Chrissie hynde is making me smile with her song middle of the road.

"I can't even get from the cab to the kerb without some little jerk on my back".

I'm trying to get a list of things together I want to do. Play live at a folk bar. Learn how to crochet. Set up a blog.

On the practical side, I've got to have a plan. Right now i must try not feel so damn unwell.

It has been unpleasantly hot today. I had to leave Woody the rat behind. I'm back with unreasonably squeaky squirrel.

Oldstyle · 27/08/2019 23:43

Hello Detroit. Chanced upon this thread. What an amazing, funny, resourceful woman you are. But how bloody hard to be in that situation, even with cool wood rats. Like so many others, I wish you were closer so that I could do something practical. Failing that, just sending virtual hugs and the hope for a safe sanctuary.

StopThePlanet · 27/08/2019 23:35

I'm good Detroit - same old stuff around here. My sweet girl (dog) is in remission from cancer Grin and my goofy old boy (dog - we call him Chris Farley sometimes as when he gets running he makes this face that well only a Chris Farley description suffices!) just got cleared to stop his thyroid meds. Wink

I've been thinking a lot about you getting a dog... I think you have some logistics to work out but I think you should do it. My dogs help keep me sane (having a sentient being to love and talk to is so important). I'd be happy to send some Chewy.com orders your way for dog food etc. - so if you decide to take the leap let me know and I can help sort out what location is best for you to retrieve deliveries.

Detroitinnineteensixtyeight · 27/08/2019 23:10

I don't think I can put photos into posts yet, but will try set up that blog.

Turns out wood rats are kinda cool.

I appreciate the sane company and kind thoughts. The world had gone crazy.

A spigot is a water faucet, a tap. No water is tough. Every drop has to be thought about, from drinking to washing. No electricity isn't the end of the world. No cell phone signal could be dangerous I guess.

It's pretty, but full of drunk partying campers, so pretty obnoxious. This spot is quieter, but no showers. Nice river, might even go fishing.

Mamello · 27/08/2019 23:01

Hi Detroit. Just wanted you to know I've been thinking of you. I really hope and pray you can find somewhere for a rest and some peace. No idea what a spigot is but guessing it's a kind of tap? Here in the UK the seasons all seem such a mess and its beginning to feel autumnal already. But it's still very warm, just the trees turning colour . Hope it's beautiful where you are.

Detroitinnineteensixtyeight · 27/08/2019 23:00

I'm definitely on the move after labor day. Not sure where yet.

I'll try set up the blog. I'm still feeling very unsafe.

Divorce plans are shelved for now. Ild rather take no divorce than settle for nothing. I don't have to see him, or be near him.

I can't head to any cold weather states over winter, so I'm limited.

How are you, stop?
