What has the world come to?

Explicitly stating men are welcome to enter women's spaces and 'support' them after suffering horrendously at the hands of other men.

It looks like this "women's" project is in fact just part of a Paisley wide health project so quite likely it doesn't operate as an autonomous women's group. www.activecommunities.co.uk/content/about-who-we-are/

But what is sad is the fact that there are other Kairos Women's Groups / spaces in other parts of the country who are autonomous women's groups but many now be seen to be part of this one. eg kairoswwt.org.uk/

I believe Wadhwa is a manager at Forth Valley Rape Crisis - don't know who runs Rape Crisis Scotland.

SheWhoMustBeSilent · 16/08/2019 19:28

Don't forget that Rape Crisis Scotland is run by the man who is Mridul Wadhwa:

This is horrendous. I feel so angry and sad. Why are women's basic human rights being trampled on because some man wants to be validated?

UK case law is very clear that any man who does not have a GRC should be treated in the same way as any other man.

@SheWhoMustBeSilent do you have a link to the case law, I hadn't heard about that.

namechanging2019 · 16/08/2019 11:23

@Wurzelsnewhead

Yes! Thank you. Grin You're absolutely right, this won't last.

It is a frightening thing to be aware of this. Margaret Atwood seems to have been entirely right about the way the world is going but we won't let it.

Our ‘attempted’ erasure in action 😀.

namechanging2019 · 16/08/2019 11:11

@Wurzelsnewhead

I despair that this is true. How did it become so convoluted that 'woman' means anything other than adult human female.
It seems to no longer exist. It's now only an afterthought to the word cis or trans.

Our erasure in action.

Hmm ‘lived experience of womanhood’ can mean anything these days.
The bottom line for me is abused women don’t need the added stress of acquiescing to other people’s dysphoria/ needs. Openly advertising for men to support abused women in one to one counselling whilst stating the applications are open to women only. Bollocks.

AngelasAshes · 16/08/2019 10:05

@namechanging2019
Well said. I completely agree.

namechanging2019 · 16/08/2019 09:43

Please let this thread continue to be about women supporting each other.

Say there are 5 women accessing a counselling/therapy service. I do agree that it's unlikely for harm to come to the 4 other survivors if 1 chooses to see a male professional. I also see my job (as an ally to other women) as supporting them to make choices that are right for them as long as it does not harm others.

Feeling comfortable enough to seek help from a male professional may be an important part of recovery for some women. Either way, we shouldn't judge.

Moving on, I too, have been asked why I hate men so much recently. It really gets my back up. To assume that my anger about the treatment of women equals hating men, is to underestimate me. I am more than able to recognise societal issues and be angry and passionate about acting to change this, without automatically hating any other person who happens to possess a penis!

I don't think that the failure of men to understand is contempt, however it demonstrates perfectly why we need this. People without lived experience of womanhood should not hold power over us. They'll never understand.

I utterly despair of this idocy.

Johnstone is a town with many issues of social deprivation, unemployment, drug misuse, alcoholism, poverty. There are many women there in need of real support, so many issues in need of funding.

What Johnstone doesn't need is the woke brigade showing up shoving their priorities down everyone's throat.

I am reminded of the ridiculous Goldsmith's students and their inability to understand the local community having priorities that don't revolve around them.

Wurzelsnewhead · 16/08/2019 08:29

Back to the thread, in my experience the vast majority of women would prefer a female counsellor after domestic/ sexual abuse at the hands of a man. It may be different for mtf people identifying as women. In any case, services for vulnerable women should not be carelessly exposing them to individuals who may retrigger them.
Coyacoan, yes I think it is difficult for either sex to fully understand the effects of socialisation on the other. Horrified to read what the 17 year old went through, I hope justice is served.

AngelasAshes · 16/08/2019 08:26

@RuffleCrow
As a rape survivor, I was never concerned that I would be raped by a male counsellor/psychiatrist/psychologist. At first I didn’t care if my counsellor were male or female and so I ended up seeing both. The male ones were actually much better for me and MH recovery than the female ones were. I know that is no true true for every woman, but neither is it true that all rape survivors do better with female counsellors.

AngelasAshes · 16/08/2019 08:16

@rufflecrow
You have a lynch mob mentality. Which is very sad.
Protests should be peaceful, not a violent mob bent on destruction. Mobs are dangerous beasts and what starts as a broken window turns into looting, fire bombs, beating & punching people in the street, and even injuries and deaths. Learn your history. There is no acceptable level of violence in a protest because it is a slippery slope and uncontrollable. Doesn’t matter how justified the anger is or is not.

RuffleCrow · 16/08/2019 07:49

What tosh @AngelasAshes

Of course the rape of a seventeen year old girl by four uniformed police officers, and total lack of justice, justifies the anger of the women concerned. To quote The Minimalists "Use things and love people - not the other way around".

RuffleCrow · 16/08/2019 07:44

Vast majority of male perpetrators are never caught, @MinnieTheSphinx. What use are background checks? Much safer to stick with the sex that rarely offends.

AngelasAshes · 16/08/2019 07:29

“group of women went out to protest and ended up breaking a glass door and spray painting slogans.”

@Coyoacan

Being against vandalism during protests does not make a person “a raving misogynist”

I’m against any sort of vandalism or violence during a protest myself. That sort of behaviour should never be acceptable no matter how worthy the cause. The end never justifies the means.

Coyoacan · 16/08/2019 02:36

I've just found out that an erstwhile gay friend is a raving misogynist.

Here in Mexico City a seventeen-year-old girl was gang raped by four uniformed policemen. As said police were not even removed from duty a group of women went out to protest and ended up breaking a glass door and spray painting slogans. Said gay friend was shocked at the behaviour of the protesters, "think of the buildings" and even asks, why do women hate men so much?

I'm still reeling from this clear demonstration of the inability of men to understand what it is like to be a woman. So even if a man was generally decent, I would seriously doubt their ability to imagine how a rape victim might feel.

Gingerkittykat · 15/08/2019 23:49

What is their definition of non binary?

I remember the audacious women event being shut down for including non binary with a female body for not being inclusive enough.

namechanging2019 · 15/08/2019 21:30

@AngelasAshes

I am sorry you experienced that, thank you for sharing and contributing.

This is a valid point that we might overlook actually. The choice between a male or female counsellor should be available but I also believe that the process should be entirely transparent and that the presence of male counsellors should be made abundantly clear not under the guise of men presenting as women

OP posts:
SheWhoMustBeSilent · 15/08/2019 21:21

I agree women should be able to choose male or female and for it to go along biological not gender ID lines.

"Gender Identity" has no legal meaning in any UK statute.

Anything 'done' along "Gender ID lines" is being done outside of any UK law.

The Equality Act 2010 is UK law .. it applies to all UK citizens.

OohthatlovelyNigelfromBabyClub · 15/08/2019 21:17

Oh @MinnieTheSphinx, please don't be deliberately ignorant. It rather sounds like you don't know that a DBS check only finds the offences that have been reported against a person. Hmm
Perhaps you also dont know that it's almost impossible to convince someone to make an official report against the perp if they're scared.
So yes, many abusers have clean records.

SheWhoMustBeSilent · 15/08/2019 21:14

Scotland are on the über-woke path then.

For some obscure reason Scotland is acting outside of any current UK law.

Hard to fathom really, since Scotland's behaviour in this regard acts against the current full legal rights of all women in Scotland.

AngelasAshes · 15/08/2019 21:13

? As a rape survivor who has been counselled by both men and women, the men were far more helpful and sympathetic than the women.

Not all women want a female counsellor.
I agree women should be able to choose male or female and for it to go along biological not gender ID lines.

SheWhoMustBeSilent · 15/08/2019 21:11

Kairos do not have to include non binary or male born people who identify as trans unless they have a GRC.

This is true ... the Exception permits exclusion of everyone at any stage in their "transition" process including GRC holders.

The category labelled by some as "non-binary" is non-existent in UK law and has no legal meaning.

UK case law is very clear that any man who does not have a GRC should be treated in the same way as any other man.
