Lawsuits against The Guardian to follow, no doubt.

The article is quite funny in its po-faced declarations of transphobia (and no evidence whatsoever to back them up).

That's what happens when you indulge, indulge, indulge.

They turn on you. They always turn on you.

Look at A Challenor and the Green Party, after everything the Greens did for the Challenors. Challenor quit, citing transphobia.

'cut off their hands, burn them with fire, make a pile of the heads over against the city gate, men impaled on stakes, the city destroyed and devastated, turned it into mounds and ruin heaps, the young men and the maidens in the fire burned.'

I think that's ACAS guidelines, but possibly not verbatim.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 15/08/2019 18:29

What’s the stance of workplace practical jokes?

ScrimshawTheSecond · 15/08/2019 18:26

If accidental misgendering is illegal, god knows poking fun must be a gulagable offence.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 15/08/2019 18:21

So having someone like fun at you is a sueing affair?

I wish I’d known that before I chose to wear red trousers and a black jacket to work and was barraged with circus/ringmaster jokes!

NotTerfNorCis · 15/08/2019 18:09

one member of the staff who had previously been Victoria’s friend defended the article, she said, and began citing trans women in sports as a reason to attack trans rights. Another colleague, she said, “poked fun” at her, asked if she was trans, and told her, “If you went to prison, I’m not sure which prison you should go to.”

“It allowed me to see firsthand the damage this type of piece causes,” said Victoria.

Sure because no one would be bothered by transwomen in women's sports and women's prisons if it wasn't for those pesky journalists.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 15/08/2019 17:14

The Buzzfeed article claims that the Times case is due to conclude by the end of the month. That'll be interesting.

Needmoresleep · 15/08/2019 17:07

Many men would stand up to protect women's spaces and see a lot of the trans stuff rather odd. By there are plenty of bright articulate men who will object to being silenced. James Kirkup got it early, but if this continues, others will start sticking their heads above the parapet.

AnyOldPrion · 15/08/2019 17:02

”colleagues had made transphobic remarks to her”

”multiple sources ... have described to BuzzFeed News as a deepening internal war over the rights of transgender people”

”allowing a bitter schism to develop between pro- and anti-trans journalists”

”one member of the staff who had previously been Victoria’s friend defended the article, she said, and began citing trans women in sports as a reason to attack trans rights”

”the internal divisions over trans rights have resulted in face-to-face rows in the office”

Translation: people are finally getting so sick of the pressure to lie and bend everything to fit round people who have utterly irrational beliefs and expectations that they are gaining the courage to speak up. And once people start to speak out, the naked emperor must flee to preserve their fragile bubble....

Puuuuuuulllllllll!!!

ScrimshawTheSecond · 15/08/2019 17:00

Judgement expected in August, it says here. www.pressgazette.co.uk/ex-times-journalist-claims-paper-pushes-anti-trans-agenda-and-calls-redundancy-process-a-sham/

ScrimshawTheSecond · 15/08/2019 16:57

Ah, Katherine O Donnell. It was reported on a bit earlier in the year, can't find any references to any decisions.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 15/08/2019 16:54

What happened to the case with the Times journalist suing the paper for being transphobic, is it ongoing? I can't remember the name of the employee.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 15/08/2019 16:35

Reminds me a bit of when it all went crazy at that college in Canada. Evergreen? Something.
And how they have gone after goldsmiths for racism.

It seems identity politics cults have a thirst that can never be quenched.

ThePurported · 15/08/2019 16:33

These individuals and people who report misgendering and other such 'hate incidents' to the police are doing damage to actual trans rights. Employers will start avoiding hiring trans candidates out of fear of being sued over nonsense.

In June, the Guardian invited a panel of LGBT people to an internal event to discuss the reporting of LGBT issues. Christine Burns, one of Britain’s foremost campaigners for trans rights, and an architect of the Gender Recognition Act, told assembled staff that reporting in the UK over the last couple of years has resulted in her feeling “scared to death” for the safety of her community.

I think it's time for the GRA architects to do some soul-searching.

WineIsMyCarb · 15/08/2019 16:13

Yes indeed @RedToothBrush

AlwaysTawnyOwl · 15/08/2019 15:58

Their boss must have done a little song and dance when they handed in their notice

RedToothBrush · 15/08/2019 15:53

Agree with @RedToothBrush about the purposes of the press but would say that over and above those things, which are noble aims and values, media outlets such as the guardian exist to sell newspapers and make a profit

Thats why the press has to reflect public opinion otherwise it does not sell newspapers.

Given that what was it something like only 14% (I forget exact figure off the top of my head) of the public believe that women's sport should include transwomen (and that was amongst all age groups) it has a bit of an issue and the employee that Victoria fell out with is hardly holding an out there or extreme view...

Tootsweets23 · 15/08/2019 15:41

I wonder who the second resignation was, might it be Freddy McConnell, the trans man who lost their case for anonymity and wanted to be registered as their child's father despite giving birth to it? What was the outcome of that case, does anyone know?

Needmoresleep · 15/08/2019 15:39

Ha ha.

Pound to a penny Sanchez Manning and other sensible reporters working for the Mail sometimes roll their eyes at some of the more Dacre-like editorials. By hey, it's a job and has anyone the right to expect their values to align perfectly with those of their employers. (Or indeed to align completely with the newspaper they read.)

Parallel stories, though not about trans issues:
www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7357201/Google-whistleblower-reveals-tech-giant-DOES-blacklist-news-sites.html

www.theguardian.com/technology/2019/aug/14/youtube-bria-kam-chrissy-chambers-lesbian-vloggers-lgbtq-discrimination

Note Mail online seems to have lost significant traffic since Youtube changed its algorithm in June. (And I was completely unable to find the parallel DM story about YouTube via Google whereas the Guardian popped up first.) Not something that might worry many here, except say, if the same happened to MN due to a perceived "transphobia". Power is being wielded by people who are largely unaccountable. If the Guardian feels under pressure to change its editorial policies to suit some members of staff, this will be more evidence for something that is very worrying indeed.

WineIsMyCarb · 15/08/2019 15:26

Agree with @RedToothBrush about the purposes of the press but would say that over and above those things, which are noble aims and values, media outlets such as the guardian exist to sell newspapers and make a profit. Maybe the Guardian has realised that the majority public view, even the 'progressive' or left wing/ left leaning view, is not necessarily absolute alignment with the TRA lobby's message. This is encouraging, let's hope they see the market respond positively to critical, investigative and well-researched journalism.

NotAtMyAge · 15/08/2019 15:26

Eugh the horrible trf scum at the Guardian published this just yesterday. Clear transphobia*

That was Guardian Australia, like Guardian USA a rather different kettle of fish from our own dear British Guardian. Australia looks like it's trying to vie with Canada as woke central.

LangCleg · 15/08/2019 15:23

This is what happens when you have too many opinion columnists, rather than journalists writing for a newspaper.

Also this!

And imagine working for the Grauniad and believing it's so transphobic that you have to leave and take it to court.

Is water transphobic yet?

Justhadathought · 15/08/2019 15:13

I hope the trans employees do take the Guardian to court...

The more these issues do end up in court, the better.......the narcissistic preciousness of so many of these complaints needs to be held up to the light, and to proper scrutiny.

Justhadathought · 15/08/2019 15:11

Organisations like the BBC, the Greens, the Lib Dems, the Labour Party, The Guardian - they are the ones who are having all the hassle. Since they are the ones who kowtow to the ideology. And whatever they do, it will never be good enough

This too!

Justhadathought · 15/08/2019 15:09

The mess that The Guardian has found itself in is entirely of its own making

Agree! You do wonder how much longer the publication can continue to survive with so many inherent contradictions. That's the problem with being so 'woke' and liberal-lefty...eventually you're crucified by your own artifices and 'positions' on things.

Popchyk · 15/08/2019 14:54

Yes, Red.

But The Times has never embraced transgender ideology (like The Guardian has). The Times has done its job as a serious newspaper and has reported on issues of public interest.

This of course is transphobic according to some, but what's the point of complaining to The Times? The Times won't genuflect and cave in and say that they'll hire twelve transgender columnists and try to do better.

The TRAs of course have gone after Times columnists (Janice Turner and Andrew Gilligan notably), but The Times has stood by their journalists. And the TRAs don't want to bang their heads against that particular wall.

There's a reason why the TRAs constantly go after The Guardian and not The Daily Mail. The Daily Mail couldn't give a toss about what the trans cult and their allies say. The Daily Mail will never cave, so what's the point of going after them in the first place?

It is because The Guardian always folds, always appeases, always accommodates. And that makes a complete mockery of what is supposed to be a serious news organisation.

The mess that The Guardian has found itself in is entirely of its own making.
