Lawsuits against The Guardian to follow, no doubt.

The article is quite funny in its po-faced declarations of transphobia (and no evidence whatsoever to back them up).

That's what happens when you indulge, indulge, indulge.

They turn on you. They always turn on you.

Look at A Challenor and the Green Party, after everything the Greens did for the Challenors. Challenor quit, citing transphobia.

A women is doing stirling work on the fb stop funding hate post of this. Worth a check and support if you can!

merrymouse · 15/08/2019 21:04

(sorry, dearth...)

merrymouse · 15/08/2019 21:03

(I don't think there is a dirth of people)

Wurzelsnewhead · 15/08/2019 20:33

Yes youdojustyou, male privilege must be difficult to forget hence the transprivilege. Same old.

YouJustDoYou · 15/08/2019 20:20

Do you know what this all is? Men are not used to having remarks made at them, about anything. They suddenly have placed themselves at the forefront of this "trans world", but are taking every tiny single thing as a slight, because they literally cannot take anything that even slightly hints at people not fully and wholly accepting them in any aspect of life. Due to intrinsic male privilege, they cannot and have never face not being instantly accepted. Women, however, have grown up in a world where they have ALWAYS been judged, always had sexist comments/actions thrown at them, always had violence flung at them for saying "no" etc. And these ex-men suddenly have someone making a teeny, tiny comment they deem "transphobic" (ie referring to "women who have periods" for example, not "people who have periods"), and suddenly they hurl the TERF TRANSPHOBIC BIGOT sandbag to smash the victim in the face.

merrymouse · 15/08/2019 20:12

Unfortunately Journalists are getting laid off left right and centre.

I don't think there is a dirty of people who are prepared to write for the Guardian.

TheBigBallOfOil · 15/08/2019 20:07

They are bullies. The more people capitulate to them, the more they attack.
Best just not to give a fuck about them, and say so.

Lumene · 15/08/2019 20:06

Absolutely agree with Goosefoot on lack of basic journalistic ethics in that piece. Or indeed any journalism skills. It’s just a rant.

Lumene · 15/08/2019 20:04

That article is so beyond any attempt to be an objective piece of journalism it’s a joke.

It’s also hilarious.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 15/08/2019 19:54

Acclaimed - that can be a bad thing too, right?

Like when someone says to you ‘that piece of work you did was extraordinary’ and you are too busy preening to realise that they meant ‘extraordinarily bad’.

frankexchangeofviews · 15/08/2019 19:52

‘Acclaimed writers such as Juno Dawson and Shon Faye’

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHGrin

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 15/08/2019 19:33

LangCleg "Is water transphobic yet?"

Not as far as I can see, but it's surely only a matter of time:

merrymouse · 15/08/2019 19:31

Generally groups of people who have suffered discrimination in the work place haven't assumed that they would gain equality by threatening to leave.

You need to have quite a strong sense of your own importance to try that tactic.

Goosefoot · 15/08/2019 19:29

I actually don’t mind that too much - all news sources have a bias, and if it’s overt that’s ok

I think overt is one thing, dishonest is another. Failing to look into a story properly, not looking for information from all sides, deliberatly writing things in such a way as to bias the reader in one direction, withholding information that might not support your point.

Those are major journalistic sins. It's not the same as having a political bias, for example towards libertarianism. You can look at things through that lens, that's what is usually meant by a journal having a bias.

Those other things are breaches of journalistic ethics. Somehow people have lost that distinction.

Helmetbymidnight · 15/08/2019 19:28

towel, just looked- 42 likes and 8 shares BUT one v brave soul is picking the article apart in the comments...

HermioneWeasley · 15/08/2019 19:22

Constant, total capitulation and submission are required.

Best not to start pandering in the first place

aliasundercover · 15/08/2019 19:20

The Guardian had been seriously crap for a long time - I read a copy a while ago and was shocked at how one sided some of the pieces were

I actually don’t mind that too much - all news sources have a bias, and if it’s overt that’s ok.
What I find dishonest about The Guardian these days is when it does not report events that don’t fit its world view. For example: they had plenty of stories about Munro Bergdorf being sacked, but went oddly quiet when that event led to the discovery of rubber-wank-at-a-children’s-charity guy.
Tell us what happens. Put your own spin on it if you want, but don’t try to hide truth from us. We’re in 2019, you’ll get found out, and it makes you look silly and dishonest.

Juells · 15/08/2019 19:18

one member of the staff who had previously been Victoria’s friend defended the article, she said, and began citing trans women in sports as a reason to attack trans rights

Because that's the language that people would normally use when discussing the issue "it's a reason to attack trans rights". No one said that to them, ever.

Wurzelsnewhead · 15/08/2019 19:14

Transprivilege - labelling people / organisations as phobic for absolutely sod all. They should have been advised to ‘check their privilege’ before flouncing off.

Juells · 15/08/2019 19:14

Flounce flounce flounce

Have I got this right - both Guardian and Times are being sued for transphobia by employees?

TowelNumber42 · 15/08/2019 19:08

Helmet Is anyone on Stop Funding Hate pointing out the lack of any hate? How many of the group are actively participating in the uproar? I've noticed a shrinking in the pool of people willing to label as transphobia ordinary questioning. There seems to be quiet backing away from the loons.

Helmetbymidnight · 15/08/2019 18:53

I'm in a large(?) FB group called Stop funding Hate.

They are in uproar about this attack on humanity blah blah. Confused

TurboTeddy · 15/08/2019 18:52

Christ on a bike, if the G isn't as safe space then they're going to find the real world very tough indeed. The only publication that might share their values is Penis News otherwise I'm not hopeful for their future employment prospects. Maybe they'll do a medium article on how they paid the mortgage with their principles and humanity.

Goosefoot · 15/08/2019 18:49

What kind of knob things that a newspaper is only supposed to present one viewpoint on issues?

Even papers with a fairly strong editorial bias in one direction still offer a range of opinions and analysis.

Have these people ever actually read a newspaper?

ScrimshawTheSecond · 15/08/2019 18:45

No, sorry, my mistake, that was Neo-Assyrian King Asuhurnasirpal II .

I really wish I hadn't googled 'death by burning', to be honest.
