Lawsuits against The Guardian to follow, no doubt.

The article is quite funny in its po-faced declarations of transphobia (and no evidence whatsoever to back them up).

That's what happens when you indulge, indulge, indulge.

They turn on you. They always turn on you.

Look at A Challenor and the Green Party, after everything the Greens did for the Challenors. Challenor quit, citing transphobia.

Naomi Wolf's tweets are not going the way she would wish. Virtually no likes or retweets and the ration in the comments has to be seen to be believed.

I find this hilarious and surreal. I had no idea about anything to do with trans ideology until very recently because I only ever got my news from the BBC and the Guardian who reported absolutely nothing with regards to the ideology apart from promoting drag queens and another pro LGBT/trans stuff. The Guardian couldn't have been more biased if the tried!

I'm assuming they are 'citing transphobia' because the Guardian dared to mention a couple of issues about the ideology in some recent articles, I think one was about males who identified as women playing in female sports. They accept nothing but complete unwavering devotion to the ideology and anyone who disagrees is always wrong according to them.

Your sigh is far more polite than my immediate reaction, Sunset.

Important summary of UK debate putting feminists against trans people - one I can’t fathom. t.co/9YB4T6Xw0m

I’m impressed with the ⁦*@guardian*⁩ US’s op ed here challenging transphobia in the UK. Especially impressed by this transparency. t.co/2bKiGjjFYy

Other US journalists are concerned about what seems at times like UK left’s transphobic views. I objected to what I saw in UK media in general as transphobic views at @edbookfest. Many in audience were supportive. Trans phobia is not feminism in my view. t.co/TsNCHkThln

I wonder how many female sports writers the guardian has?

In fact, I wonder what % of its journalists are female? Is it around 50%?
I wonder how many transgender journalists it has? Is it around 1%?

I feel I should know what % of the population is transgender.

nonsenceagain · 16/08/2019 18:59

I'm really glad to hear about this. The Guardian deserves all its gets though I'm sorry that this has happened under a female editor. TRA stuff aside, it's got worse and worse over the last few years - in every department. As everyone else has said, too much opinion and so little journalism. The only real exceptions are Carole Cadwalladr (though mainly in the Observer) and Amelia Gentleman.

MissLawls · 16/08/2019 17:54

Organisations like the BBC, the Greens, the Lib Dems, the Labour Party, The Guardian - they are the ones who are having all the hassle. Since they are the ones who kowtow to the ideology. And whatever they do, it will never be good enough. We are seeing this now. A factual article about the safety of children who identify as transgender is smeared as transphobic. By your own staff. Who are very clearly working against you.

Meanwhile, other organisations (like the Daily Mail, say) have no hassle whatsoever. Because they never kowtowed to the ideology in the first place. They can write what they want and do what they want.

There's a lesson there, if only someone has the awareness to see it.

So much this @Popchyk

Stop Funding Hate have unfortunately disappeared right up their own arse.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 16/08/2019 16:45

All comments committing wrongthink on the 'Stop Funding Hate' page have now been purged. Thank you for your attention. There is no debate.

I’ve just watched a little bit of Nicky’s coming out video on Twitter. Now I’m sure Nicky is a perfectly nice person, no denying that, but even before I turned the volume up I could just tell that Nicky was “performing”. Nicky’s facial expressions/mannerisms seemed (to me at least - and I guess I’m biased) forced and rehearsed.

As a woman it makes me feel uncomfortable.

Propertyofhood · 16/08/2019 15:39

but my love of storytelling remains

Lol!

OldCrone · 16/08/2019 15:01

NotAtMyAge I suspect the moderators don't even read my comments any more, just delete them. I had a few published when I first signed up, but recent ones have just disappeared.

OldCrone · 16/08/2019 14:59

This is the bit I was commenting on in my unpublishable Guardian comment.

Even after struggling with gender dysphoria – a sense of discomfort with and dissociation from the body that life dealt me, and the expectations that go with it – for almost my whole life...

Many people struggle with discomfort with their bodies - women are always being given impossible ideals to live up to - we're too fat, too ugly, the 'wrong' shape. Some of us go for drastic dieting, cosmetic surgery - some of us just learn to live with the hand we were dealt. Disabled people must sometimes think they were 'born in the wrong body', but have to learn to live with the one they have. Is Nicky's 'discomfort' any different from that?

And as for the 'expectations'. If there are expectations which are put on you because you are a man or because you are a woman, why not fight to change a society that expects that? Why assume that it's you that is 'wrong'? Is this a special sort of self-hatred, or what? But I suppose my view is influenced by growing up in the 70s, when feminists were fighting for the rights of women, not insisting they were actually men because they wanted to have rights.

NotAtMyAge · 16/08/2019 14:49

Old Crone I've just scanned quickly through the comments and couldn't spot yours among the overwhelmingly positive and admiring ones. My guess is that the vast majority are by men and I spotted a transwoman in there too. Men supporting a man and unaware of the implications of all this on the women in their lives. Most seemed primarily concerned that the football commentary wouldn't stop.

allmywhat · 16/08/2019 14:29

I thought the colleague’s remark about prisons was unnecessary

Depends. It's a bizarre and rude thing to say out of the blue. But if the context was a discussion of transwomen in women's prisons, and Victoria brought it into the realm of the personal by saying "Would you send me to a man's prison?" then "I don't know" is a fine answer.

Having seen transactivists debate I think the latter scenario is much more likely than someone just randomly making the prison remark.

hipsterfun · 16/08/2019 14:22

What a crushing blow to the Graun the loss of these two will be. At least they’ve Little OJ.

Ereshkigal · 16/08/2019 14:09

Well it wouldn't be easy if you were female. I suspect the male football writers and pundits won't really change their view of Nicky.

Haworthia · 16/08/2019 14:07

Will be interesting to see how Nicky gets on in the uber blokey world of football. It won’t be easy.

Funny how so many transgender women remain in such male dominated careers post-transition.

Lumene · 16/08/2019 13:56

Yes I would like some reassurance of unbiased approach to reporting on the issues around single sex sport.

Juells · 16/08/2019 13:26

OldCrone

"but my love of storytelling remains"

It certainly does.

DanaPhoenix · 16/08/2019 13:12

Yep Buzz it's all just so attention seeking and narcissistic. LGB just came out to family and friends. It's all become such a production and frankly I (as a straight person) can only imagine how the older LGB community feel when for them coming out was a risk, I'm sure they are happy that it's more widely accepted but I imagine that in some way the modern day drama that some are attaching to coming out must seem cringeworthy...

I think social media has a lot to do with this, elements of society have become very much me, me, me. It's not about acceptance anymore just pure validation. My pronouns he/his/him...I'm a non binary, demisexual hobgoblin... I like my bottom spanked with a feather duster whilst hanging from a chandelier... Honestly the way this is going we're gonna need bigger name badges.

IsabelleSE19 · 16/08/2019 13:11

Just read Nicky Bandini's article - I knew who she was previously as I read quite a lot of football articles. Would absolutely love to know what she thinks of the transgender people in sport issue.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 16/08/2019 13:08

Nicky clearly is content with being associated with the Guardian, I'd say it's likely to only be a small % of people who feel it is an extreme hate-filled environment.

I liked & appreciated Nicky's article FWIW - I do think society as a whole still needs to see more positive stories about LGBT people, we're very much not at a place where 'nobody cares'.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 16/08/2019 12:55

So Paolo is now Nicky?

I honestly don't give a shit. Do they know enough about sports to write interesting, relevant and accurate articles? That's all I need to know.

This relentless drive to be known mostly for your preferred style of dress or non-work-related life choices is as boring as it is pointless.

I don't announce my sexuality at the start of every work meeting and expect praise for it before we get down to the agenda.

Deliriumoftheendless · 16/08/2019 12:28

I’m not a journalist but I’m sure male journos and editors have always treated their female colleagues with the utmost respect and never written any articles or printed any photos that could be seen as sexist or misogynistic.
