Hello FWRs

Has anyone signed up to spinster.xyz yet? It’s like twitter but without the misogyny. No banning for stating biological truths. See you over there hopefully

Happy Sunday you couldn't-stay-away old thing!

GirlDownUnder · 18/08/2019 17:05

I was hoping Spinster would stop or ban the monitors - am I misunderstanding?

Joss has signed up and already reporting

“So anyway, I signed up for the T.e.r.f.s. Gab rip-off, Spinster.”

Is this not banable behaviour? Specially when women couldn’t sign up due to numbers?

stumbledin · 16/08/2019 00:34

I hope I didn't imply it was juvenile.

Just more like the first day of freedom and everyone is running round letting of steam!

DeRigueurMortis · 15/08/2019 19:14

Not i agree.

Part of the teething process I think.

DeRigueurMortis · 15/08/2019 19:12

Oph - try your spam email

IdaBWells · 15/08/2019 18:53

I’m not on Twitter so somewhat clueless but I have nothing identifying on there.

OpheliaTodd · 15/08/2019 18:49

I keep trying to join but I haven’t got the email to finish registering 😕

terryleather · 15/08/2019 18:48

I've joined up under a different username from MN and followed those I recognise from FWR, but I'll probably be a lurker like I was on Twitter as to my shame I don't really understand how these platforms work...

Someone posted a link to the Wiki entry below and I think it's quite pertinent wrt how things appear to be going over on Spinster.

IdaBWells · 15/08/2019 18:44

I just joined and was really enjoying it, definitely didn’t experience it as juvenile. Suddenly it shut down so I really hope it’s not an attack. Why is it so threatening to men for women to want to get together and talk?

NotTerfNorCis · 15/08/2019 18:31

I thought the attack on Glinner was a shame. He's done a lot for gender critical feminism and would have been a positive contributor. He must feel awful after doing so much, and putting up with all that TRA abuse.

Juells · 15/08/2019 17:35

It's down at the moment

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 15/08/2019 17:23

I registered but thought I'd leave it to settle for a few days.

LangCleg · 15/08/2019 15:09

sorry I went to work, you know some of us do that don't you.?

Oh, oi oi, Bespin. You're back! Excellent!

Missing the point though, sadly (mine as well as The Inebriati's but I'll just concentrate on my point).

I wasn't asking for your daily schedule or your shift times. I was, along with HaXX0r, wondering whether you also intended to air concerns about this in addition to your clear, er, worry for the welfare of women talking to each other via the Spinster platform:

Seeing as you are so keen to stop people from.using server technologies in ways you don't like, perhaps you can head to the latest Ozimek/Fae thread and come up with ideas about how the authors of Tomcat, Apache, and Nginx can prevent their software from being used to host child abuse images, rape footage, etc in the name of men getting their jollies?

What say you, Bespin? Shall we see you on that thread? After all, server technologies being potentially misused clearly concerns you greatly.

YobaOljazUwaque · 15/08/2019 15:05

It's reopened for new registrations now.

stumbledin · 15/08/2019 14:55

I have signed up but late at night and not thinking clearly so registered to close to my real name, so currently just working.

I have read all the issue about security etc., etc., but quite honestly the worst thing about it is all the twitter obsessives who are bringing their negativity and schoolyard bullying into the forum.

They clearly stated it would be an open forum for gender critical comments (and much much more women centred postings) and a small group thought that somehow getting Glinner to unregister would not only be a victory but somehow free up the limited space to those who were late in trying to register.

At moment I find it quite uninteresting. As someone else said a bit like the last day of term and everyone rushing round saying naughty things to get a round of applauce. May wait and see how it settles down and work out if it is worth registering in a less revealing name. (Posts from Spinster can be shared via their URL).

Also, unlike some who have commented here I get far more out of facebook (by not joining any womens groups where there always seems to be some control freak making it a negative experience). And by the way I have had no problem with registering under a fake name. Facebook's problem was they thought anyone who didn't have a name that reflected a WASP heritage couldn't be real.

Have found that on facebook, as on mumsnet you come into contact with women who you might not necessarily ever have contact with in real live. And I learn from that, even if I dont necessarily change my opinion!

I think just having a space where women can openly discuss gender critical issues and the impact of transactivism on women's rights is really valuable.

There is moderation, but on reasonable grounds eg sharing someone else's personal info, racism, and so on.

So I hope it will be positive. But at the moment I already spend too much time on social media where I am able to be gender critical so dont know that I need another place.

Just hope the twitter obsessives get a new life and realist they dont have to see the world through the lens a a hostile male forum.

(Some mumsnetter has been complaining on Spinster that mumsnet isn't strict enough about those posting on mumsnet who (s)he considers to be disrupters!!)

GirlDownUnder · 15/08/2019 14:30

Well I rather like the fact that Spinster won’t give our Twitter monitors the ability to report posters, a la MN, and get posts deleted - I’d say that was a positive wouldn’t you bespin

TheInebriati · 15/08/2019 13:51

But it's literally what you were suggesting should happen upthread, which is why I posted the comment.

Most forums have moderation, spinster included.
The current problem faced by women is that we are being banned/deleted for speaking the facts we have been conditioned to believe for our whole lives. Facts that are borne out by our direct, lived experience.

We are not being told we must abandon those facts overnight, ignore how we feel, pretend our lived experience is harmful to others, leave our families, our religions, and our communities, and join a new group.

We must adopt beliefs that cannot be accurately described or named,. that no one can agree on.
Because the new order demands this. To many of us this is a case of here comes the new boss, just like the old boss.

Bespin · 15/08/2019 13:30

Totally this ^^

TheInebriati · 15/08/2019 13:22

Making providers responsible for content has been a bone of contention since trolls and interest groups started to misuse the internet.

Bespin · 15/08/2019 12:53

sorry I went to work, you know some of us do that don't you.?

I'm not stopping anyone use it by all means, use kewi farms too just be aware who else might use them too. these are not closed communities not everyone can be vouched for can they.

TheInebriati · 15/08/2019 12:41

I have been reading how this pertucular network at this time is being used and exploited by such groups its all over the Internet in relation to this. I really hope they tighten up there structure and define some definitions of what they will allow this tech to be used for.

This is a pattern of behaviour you'll find among abusive and violent men. They find something useful, and they'll use it to promote their own agenda. In doing so they often spoil it for genuine users, even people who depend on the resource.

The problem is abusive and violent men, not whatever tool they are currently misusing.

LangCleg · 15/08/2019 09:55

Seeing as you are so keen to stop people from.using server technologies in ways you don't like, perhaps you can head to the latest Ozimek/Fae thread and come up with ideas about how the authors of Tomcat, Apache, and Nginx can prevent their software from being used to host child abuse images, rape footage, etc in the name of men getting their jollies?

How about it Bespin?

Bespin? Bespin? Besp....

... oh, you've gone.

OohthatlovelyNigelfromBabyClub · 15/08/2019 09:48

I can't get on the website to even register. Angry I'm not angry, just disappointed.

AnyOldPrion · 15/08/2019 07:12

Also, it will be very difficult to moderate because the more successful it is, the more it will be trolled.

AnyOldPrion · 15/08/2019 07:11

How is PeachYogurt’s forum going?

She closed it down, I believe.

It’s difficult to know if this will take off or not. I believe various big hitters who are banned from Twitter have joined. I think success will depend on whether it develops a function. Mumsnet definitely still functions as a place where new people happen upon these discussions, as a site where some activism is born (think ManFriday) and as somewhere to come for news and information on current affairs that is easy to find.

Twitter has a function as a public battleground, and somewhere with a degree of a access to influential people.

A site focused on gender critical feminism will need to create its own function if it’s to thrive. I believe some big-hitters have signed up. If they use it, it could become a place for information and activism. But I think there’s a lot of luck involved.
