I just joined, am having a bit of trouble navigating the site though.

Joss and the Monitors: Spinster.xyz is silly and insignificant. It's going to implode. It's good that all those silly women are spending time there instead of Twitter. We won Twitter!

Also Joss and the Monitors: come on gang, let's spend all day on Spinster.xyz and go on about it constantly so those women have to pay attention to us!

I must admit I don't get on as well with Twitter type sites as I do with talk forums like this.

Here the discussions are organised by topics, so I can choose topics and individual discussions by their titles.

So far on spinster I can either just see a list of recent posts or I have to choose people to follow. I find this a bit strange.

Has anyone got any advice as to how to make it feel less random?

Hilarious that Joss feels the need to monitor the wimmins. Can't let that spreadsheet get out of date!

I'm on there and am really enjoying it. It's early days and so I think people are feeling their way, but there are lots of interesting discussions going on, and it is so refreshing to be able to say what you think without tone policing as you have to elsewhere. I'm sure it'll settle over the next few weeks/months as people find their natural groups; at present I'm being cautious in terms of not saying anything I wouldn't be happy to see on the front of the Mail (which is always my social media rule) or giving too much personal info out. I am using a non-specific email & anonymous username different to here and Twitter because as has been said above, I think the mere existence of the site is enraging some and so I'm fully expecting some sort of attack soon. Good luck and many thanks to those who've set it up - I think they'll have their work cut out. But I'd recommend people come over and have a look. What's the harm in having a look around?

Does Joss know that they will be kicked off of Spinster if they are found out to be there for non benign reasons?

Some of the replies on Joss' thread show exactly why we are poles apart. Lots of complaints that we are anti-porn, anti-prostitution and think that sex is biological!

Joss is encouraging Hayden and Mackinnon to join so that will be fun! God knows what they think they are going to do apart from explode in a narc rage! Hilarious!

Yes .. one wonders how many users Twitter had in its first week of existence? I am sure it was an extremely narrow group of users that signed up in its earliest days.

No doubt, Spinster will grow and become a viable alternative as a platform that treats women's voices as a valuable resource.

My understanding is that Spinster was created as a social media platform for everyone aged 13 and over, that will not tolerate sexism and misogyny and will not censor any voice that abides by its rules for participation.

The site is great. Already about 4k users. Joss is spinning Joss's unique version of the truth over on Twitter, and fellow TRAs are lapping it up...

Also thanks for sharing that link about group formation terryleather it's really interesting and seems to apply to the GC movement as a whole. I think we are currently in the 'storming' stage and I hope we can move out of this soon otherwise we're probably going to go down with the ship.

I keep hoping that the disagreements are put aside so everyone can work together. In the end those disagreements won't matter if we no longer have any of our rights left.

I think spinster serves a certain purpose. I think it's fine to be critical about it. In fact it's healthy to. It's never going to please everyone - nor should it. It's got a purpose that's different to other places - that's what gives it value and a unique selling point. It's always going to hit technical issues by virtue of its newness - and because its a target.

It's personally not for me, as I have reservations about the extent to which it's an echo chamber and has a narrow self selecting user base.

But there's nothing wrong about that.

It might be perfect for someone else.

What we need tbh, is pluralism. This forms part of that.

Ideally we do need more places with a very broad base and encourage debate between different views, but at this moment in time we are not close to that being as realistic as a possibility as I'd like.

It's a shame to see the site being criticised. I don't find it juvenile at all, I think women are really enjoying saying what they've been banned from saying elsewhere. Best of luck to Spinster and long may it thrive.

I realise Joss can’t survive, live, thrive, etc. without the succour of ‘real’ women, but oh my word dial down the jealous!
