Hello FWRs

Has anyone signed up to spinster.xyz yet? It’s like twitter but without the misogyny. No banning for stating biological truths. See you over there hopefully

I've joined but just get a blank page.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 12/08/2019 21:11

Thanks for the heads up, I'll take a look next week when I'm back from holiday.

Even an echo chamber is a sanity check and helps inform real life conversations & actions do I'm prepared to give it s go.

PencilsInSpace · 12/08/2019 21:10

Spinster is an excellent name Smile

Will it be public or hidden?

I don't have the time for another platform at the moment but I hope it's a great success.

Sexnotgender · 12/08/2019 21:09

It’s super glitchy. I think we broke it!

SaskiaRembrandt · 12/08/2019 20:52

Registrations are closed now, so it isn't taking any more sign ups at the moment

So many people have joined it's hammering their server. I think they're going to upgrade though, so once that's done more people can join.

boatyardblues · 12/08/2019 20:51

When I try to view Spinster, this is the view I get (not joined).

Well you have to join with caution of course, use a throwaway email address and not any identifying details since I'm sure the stalkers will be watching there too.

Don't they have any hobbies? I thought they all cared about social justice yet they never seem to have the time to fight for the climate or animal rights. They seem to think pronoun rights are the most worthy cause...

OvaHere · 12/08/2019 20:44

It's set up by a fairly well known feminist writer and her partner. So no worries there.

Ooh I've joined and I'm saying things that would probably get me banned from twitter and it's super fun! I had to leave twitter as it was dreadful being around all of those abusive biology denying animes. This place looks much better :)

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 12/08/2019 20:37

Who is behind this?

It seems like a very convenient way of harvesting the information of GC women?

SaskiaRembrandt · 12/08/2019 20:31

True, but SM is unlike anything that was ever available then. Women had no other way of broadcasting themselves

They had, and used the same medium as men. Have a read about how women used the new-fangled medium of printing, admittedly they did it underground but they did use it.

And no one is suggesting leaving MN, just that this is not the only way to get a message across. Even before Spinster women were using other forums - even meeting IRL to talk in uncensored places.

TheGraysAreComing · 12/08/2019 20:30

Referring to posts like this one DejaVulva, I can see it will be quite refreshing for posters and that could lead to good conversations taking place elsewhere which would be a shame for lurkers. Hopefully, that won't be the case.

@MNHQ might want to take note, they might lose their bread and butter (posters) to spinster with their awful rules on the trans issue.

TheGraysAreComing · 12/08/2019 20:26

TheGraysAreComing I think I see your point, but if women had stuck to using male dominated mediums to hold discussions we'd still be voteless and tied to our homes. There is a long history of women organising their own spaces. And a long history of men both questioning the validity of those spaces and trying to strongarm their way in to them.

True, but SM is unlike anything that was ever available then. Women had no other way of broadcasting themselves. Even if people choose to leave Twitter (which I get completely) leaving MN would be a bad thing for educating other women in general. And while I know some people aren't 100% happy with the policing of GC topics on MN, I think it is broadly fair.

DejaVulva · 12/08/2019 20:24

Yes .. none of us are leaving Mumsnet behind to the best of my knowledge. Over on Spinster you can say things that you cannot here. So users can use both and speak within the necessary restrictions here and speak with more freedom over there. Different horses for different courses and different audiences. Excellent.

SaskiaRembrandt · 12/08/2019 20:24

Evey woman that was banned for "mis gendering" the pedophile man Yaniv has been vindicated. Hopefully they will gain their accounts back soon.

No, they won't. Twitter has proven itself to be a friend of misogynists, it's written into their ToS

TheGraysAreComing · 12/08/2019 20:21

I think it's more that eventually most outspoken gender critical women will get kicked off Twitter. At least this is something of a breathing space.

I get that it is incredibly frustrating, but if that keeps happening (and we keep being proven to be right) this will create a story in itself.

SpannerInTheWorks · 12/08/2019 20:21

I think it's all a bit glitchy at the moment, lots of people joining

I am being VERY cautious though. Different usernames to here and twitter, burner email, and not posting much. I am sure it will be a target.

LangCleg · 12/08/2019 20:20

I think women can do more than one thing at a time.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 12/08/2019 20:20

but if I was a TRA I'd see it as a huge win if the women I wanted to silence left main stream social media to chat in their own echo chamber.

Except many of them weren’t leaving mainstream SM. The were being banned.

Also, TRAs hate women having their own space to talk. They won’t be loving this at all. It will be attacked again and again.

Ereshkigal · 12/08/2019 20:17

f I was a TRA I'd see it as a huge win if the women I wanted to silence left main stream social media to chat in their own echo chamber

I wouldn't even be surprised if we found out that this was made by TRAs to create a little ghetto for GC feminists where no one could hear them.

TheGraysAreComing · 12/08/2019 20:15

That's just typos galore. Hmm

TheGraysAreComing · 12/08/2019 20:14

I'm sure this has been pointed out already, but if I was a TRA I'd see it as a huge win if the women I wanted to silence left main stream social media to chat in their own echo chamber.

This is exactly why terfblocker exists. So they can make sure no one who could be swayed will ever hear women. People who have never heard of the debate or who already think gender critical feminists are evil terfs won't soon go over there to learn. You'll occasionally get trolls, but fuck it. You can enjoy them on twitter. WHy leave?

Same with MN. Far better to talk about it hear with a signiifcnat percentage of the women of the UK rather than sing loudly to the choir.
