Clinical psychologist thinks demand has not yet plateaued yet and demand is still increasing.

NHS England says it has doubled almost doubled investment since 2015 to £5.7 million.

No comment. I have no words.

This is so awful. They are being brainwashed into thinking they are going to commit suicide if they don't have their healthy body parts removed.

What these people need is an honest counsellor who will help them come to terms with their perfectly healthy body. The suicide rate from what I understand actually increases after surgery, so it isn't helping them in the slightest.

I watched a video of a man who said he saved up his own money for 10-20 years before having surgery. If people really want to do that then that's up to them, it should definitely not be on the NHS. All this rushing children to get sterilised and mutilated is beyond sickening.

No support has even been offered, mental or otherwise

Do you think that might have been an own goal by lobby groups. Basically as soon as a person mentions trans all else ignored and wait for GIDs. Would it not be better to have counselling first or in addition? Admittedly there is still a wait for MH support but might get some help quicker?

JoyceJeffries · 09/08/2019 21:41

But being trans isn’t a mental illness (as we’ve repeatedly been told) so why would the NHS need to offer support?

SchrodingersMeowth · 09/08/2019 21:41

Caaarrrl. I’m sure you could crowdfund for that if you really wanted to, I’ve seen a lot of random fundraisers. Grin

SchrodingersMeowth · 09/08/2019 21:39

I wasn’t just talking about surgery, I was talking about any treatment or support at all.

Caaarrrl · 09/08/2019 21:38

My chin is questioning its gender identity. The test of my body is female but the way its been sprouting thick black hairs for the past few years I must have a male chin.

I might start crowd funding for a Phillips lumea that I have just been reading about on another thread. I'm distressed by being a hairy, middle aged woman.

SchrodingersMeowth · 09/08/2019 21:38

No support has even been offered, mental or otherwise.

It’s a waiting game to get to that first appointment to find any support. That’s what I’ve observed anyway.

JoyceJeffries · 09/08/2019 21:37

Lots of people are unhappy. Is it really the job if the NHS to do anything about this?
The NHS is on its knees and they shouldn’t be funding any plastic surgery (apart from
People who have been in fires etc)

FormerMediocreMale · 09/08/2019 21:35

These people (the ones that I’ve known anyway) are desperately unhappy.

Surely if someone is desperately unhappy they need proper counselling or to see psychiatrist. Surgery surely is just a patch rather than a long term solution.

SchrodingersMeowth · 09/08/2019 21:29

My partner is trans, it’s a long waiting list to even see anyone in the first place. 16 months to initial appointment for adults here.
I can see why there would be people who struggle to cope on the waiting lists (basically unsupported in every way) would want to crowdfund if it were to significantly cut their waiting times.

These people (the ones that I’ve known anyway) are desperately unhappy.

Non binary seems to require double mastectomies and a masculine look.

It is striking. I've noticed that the female non-binary people seem to want to look masculine, while the male non-binary people either do a lot of accessorising with scarves and make up, or present as purely masculine and accessorise by having a go at 'cis' women for being 'privileged'.
For people who 'don't identify as male or female', its interesting how the performance of that lack of gender is so starkly divided by their sex.

Turtles that poor child being pushed into taking such horrendous drugs Sad

The T lobby groups are very well funded so is it possible the rich backers are helping towards surgery?

I dont think cosmetic surgery should be paid for by NHS either. Different if its for burns cases etc but not mutilating otherwise healthy bodies.

Blockers need banning completely.

motorcyclenumptiness · 09/08/2019 20:51

After reading that article, a question did occur to me: if a person identifies as non-binary, what will surgery achieve? What is that person transitioning from/to?

JoyceJeffries · 09/08/2019 20:32

I don’t think it should be available at all on the NHS. Or the hormones for that matter.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 09/08/2019 20:28

It only took me 15 days to raise the money for my surgery

Who's actually paying for these surgeries?

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 09/08/2019 20:22

When this bubble breaks, it's going to break hard. That's a lot of otherwise-healthy young people being set up for lifelong medical problems.
And that's just the surgery. The numbers sourcing hormones online and outside the NHS is likely to be horrifying.
I know someone who is campaigning for her 8yo to go on blockers and then start cross-sex hormones at 12. It's all about being 'lifesaving' and I have little doubt she's going to try get them illegally if she can't get the prescription legally.
The fallout for all these children and young people being indoctrinated in the gender religion and permanently damaging their bodies is going to be huge and heartbreaking.
