Yes, it is for sure. I haven't seen it explicitly related to veganism in the past but I have seen people say that because we can know better about the ethics of being omnivores, we can do better and make it work by special designed diets - which is a kind of tech.

The idea with transhumanism is that somehow, we can know what would make us better (what does that mean?) humans, and then make that happen through technology. There is an implied criticism of our natural bodies in that, be it the way they see, or exist in space, or are sexed, or what they need to eat.

FormerMediocreMale · 12/08/2019 19:05

Goose that sounds like a bizarre version of transhumanism.

FormerMediocreMale · 12/08/2019 19:04

Not sure being GC is a way to gain fame - more likely to cause harm than good. Jack has been an ally for some time and is genuinely gender critical. Great to see so many others saying why they are too.

Goosefoot · 12/08/2019 18:21

This idea of actually changing what you are through technology, I've seen it in a few places recently, and several of them were about diet. So these were people who were not only supporting the idea that we can bridge male and female in biology, which is somehow wrong, but they were making a parallel argument about veganism, that we can know that they way our digestive systems etc are made is morally wrong so we can use tech, and even things like selection and genetic modification to make it so we don't need any animal products, and then our bodies will be "right".

It was kind of disturbing but also really interesting.

littlbrowndog · 12/08/2019 17:38

Whoops I meant he was not a fame hound

littlbrowndog · 12/08/2019 17:38

Me neither notmyage. I follow him on twitter and he is not a snide ffs

NotAtMyAge · 12/08/2019 17:25

Him ... he is doing it for fame and he has got it because his account is locked by the look of it.

How snide and also wrong. The thread is now unlocked, so I'm off to see who else has posted. Jack is a real friend and ally to women and I've never read a word by him that was the slightest bit self-aggrandising.

IdaBWells · 12/08/2019 16:35

I think he's free to discuss whatever he wants, by the amount of responses he got (600+) it's clearly a topic many men have an opinion about. I know all the men in my life agree with him.

Mileysmiley · 12/08/2019 04:58

IdaBWells · 12/08/2019 04:44

What exactly what pathetic about it? Would you like to explain rather than complain?

Mileysmiley · 12/08/2019 04:21

I can't read Jack's twitter account but I did watch the video.... pathetic!

IdaBWells · 12/08/2019 03:30

Ok I found it on Rebecca Reilly Cooper’s webpage. I’m assuming she cannot be found at Warwick because of threats to have safety.

I wanted to finish watching the video at the beginning of the twitter thread but now it’s locked. Could someone post the link please?

lady69 · 12/08/2019 00:30

This is a tonic. Good stuff.

Summerhillsquare · 11/08/2019 21:28

Another one thanking the delightful Jack. Good to know we've allies in some men.

FormerMediocreMale · 11/08/2019 12:52

Yes his account is now protected. He may not have had a pile on but may have been mass reported

Tootsweets23 · 11/08/2019 12:26

Although Jack's account is now protected - wondering if Twitter is planning on banning him??

Tootsweets23 · 11/08/2019 12:23

This is the most uplifting thread. I have a seven month old baby boy, and I hope I can raise him to be as compassionate, rational and women-supporting as these blokes.

Raising a glass to them, their parents, the women they name check who have been vilified for voicing concerns, and also to @glinner, who has stood as a lone public man for way too long. About bloody time the cavalry starting arriving for him.

BigotedWoman · 11/08/2019 09:51

Thanks Adult, it’s back for me now. I don’t know what happened there.

Jeanhatchet · 11/08/2019 06:16

Why haven't men got this on board about any other women's rights issue? They have managed to ignore an awful lot for an awfully long time. We have been fighting against and drowning in rape, domestic abuse, prostitution, porn, on and on .... so I'll ask again .... where were the men?

Jack’s account doesn’t seem to be there any more? Has he been got rid of by Twitter or left of his own accord? Or is it just me that can’t find the thread/his account?

I've just clicked on the link and it's still there, no sign of him deleting his account from what I can see.

I did well up a little when I read Francis Wheen's tweet on that thread. I love his writing and his relentless snark, shot through with a refreshing weft of outrage and humanity. It would be very difficult to believe he couldn't see the issues with genderism, but it's still a relief to read it.

PerkyPomPoms · 10/08/2019 21:38

Fabulously heartening to read!

2BthatUnnoticed · 09/08/2019 10:39

(I commented earlier, just popping back to say - if anyone is on Twitter, perhaps check out “Call out for Twitter” thread if you can) Smile
