Telegraph column - not even attempting to hide AGP

It’s behind a paywall, will post screenshots in next post

David Thomas is a 60 year old man, who according to his Telegraph column is still living as a man whatever that means. He is transitioning and he is writing about it in his weekly column. In the past he gave us Not Guilty: The Case in Defence of Men which is described as a rebuttal of feminist charges against men. So I think he’s established his misogyny credentials, which raises the question of why he wants to transition to emulate womanhood?

It’s so clear from the above article that it’s sexual arousal. He talks about his growing breasts in a clearly lascivious way. It’s not even gently disguised or denied. The AGP is front and centre in the article.

Yet we’re still not allowed to discuss it. We’re not allowed to point out that many men get off on the idea of being seen as a woman. They talk about it openly but the activists who seek to remove women’s rights shout us down as bigots for daring to raise it.

Those who are still championing the be nice/what harm can it do still seem to deny that it’s a driver. How? When it is this blatant how can it not be openly discussed and the risks/behaviours openly managed or challenged.

it's the weekend and past bed time, so will leave it to all the people who pretend on each side to fight stuff out as they seem to do each weekend. personally I just think it la 4chaners having a big laugh but what do I know.

FloralBunting · 03/08/2019 00:31

Oh, I will, don't you worry. I'm sure my meaning is plain enough.

Bespin · 03/08/2019 00:28

FloralBunting

I've seen many inappropriate jokes on here but I don't go around pointing them out or how the poster was un aware. I also don't imply people were aware of safegurding issues or didn't take steps to correct things when they did. But that's just me, maybe in just not being mumsnet enough for people. I will continue to do me and you continue to do you.

FloralBunting · 03/08/2019 00:27

Actually I'm not keen on Ricky Gervais.

Crack on with your cock jokes. I'm sure the stand up career will be very successful.

FloralBunting · 03/08/2019 00:25

I haven't attacked you bespin. I don't particularly like you, but all I've done is notice that you used inappropriate humour about dicks when women were actually discussing something unpleasant. I've seen other people do that, but I wouldn't like to go further because we're approaching the weekend and I know what that tends to mean round these parts.

Bespin · 03/08/2019 00:24

I mean comedy is such a subjective thing I bet you found the Ricky guevas thing funny where I didn't. you know sometimes the jokes are not for you.

Bespin · 03/08/2019 00:20

jolly good carry on, on mums net woman joke about penis a lot usually in relation to trans woman and then its so so funny. but you are welcome to think what you like, just maybe not the personal attacks eh.

FloralBunting · 03/08/2019 00:16

You wildly misread the tone, bespin. No one found it amusing that a picture of an aroused penis was stumbled upon. Yes, women do sometimes joke about penises. But not in the context of someone unwillingly seeing one aroused, in the wider context of a thread about a man clearly getting off on the idea of himself with prepubescent breasts.

We tend to find that sort of thing unbearably creepy. You didn't seem to understand that nuance of experience at all. I found that noteworthy, as I find your attitudes to safeguarding, and other assorted stuff.

Bespin · 03/08/2019 00:03

pombear

you appear to be singling me out on lots of threads today. I'm fully aware I made a knob joke I have seen many being made in threads on here are all those people un self aware too or was it OK if it was aimed at trans woman.

NotBadConsidering · 02/08/2019 23:55

I haven’t, and have no desire to, read all of his back catalogue, but has he written about the relief of his dysphoria? The reduction in mental distress? The reduction in suicidal thoughts that comes with people physically transitioning that us big bad people are depriving children?

I’ll hazard a guess the answer is “no”, and “don’t hold your breath”.

pombear · 02/08/2019 23:55

Floral yep, and I think they're so un-self-aware that they won't even know what your post is referring to, re the wholly inappropriate jokey knob humour just there Shock

FleetsumNJetsum · 02/08/2019 23:54

I think it's interesting that this person talks about his swelling chest in a way that I've never encountered a woman actually talking about her body

Spot on. Reminded me of my MtF sibling, proudly offering to show me their new breasts. Ewww. Just like no woman does, ever.

Bespin · 02/08/2019 23:53

personally I think because it's a closed club and he's in it and it fits there agenda. they are using all of us really they are hyping a fight because it makes news they are like the child's in the playground who shout fight then stand back and watch.

Datun · 02/08/2019 23:51

Imagine what he would write if he didn't think there were thousands of people reading.

Datun · 02/08/2019 23:51

I think that's true, bespin.

but why are they letting him?

ErrolTheDragon · 02/08/2019 23:50

he is writing for himself I think.

Most people would use a diary for that, not a national newspaper.

Bespin · 02/08/2019 23:47

he is writing for himself I think.

Datun · 02/08/2019 23:45

I still can't work out who he thinks he's writing for exactly.

Unless they share the same fetish, middle-aged men are either going to think that's weird, downright creepy, or highly offensive.

There is nothing of the, let's call it sexist banter, that you might get with other boysy journalists. Nothing of the nudge, nudge, wink, wink stuff that a middle-aged man might smirk at.

A transsexual growing breasts? Who is he writing for? Women aren't going to find that interesting, either. Every single woman on here has a visceral and involuntary reaction of boak.

It's mind-boggling. Quite apart from yuck.

FloralBunting · 02/08/2019 23:37

I think it's interesting that this person talks about his swelling chest in a way that I've never encountered a woman actually talking about her body.

Similar to the unconscious conditioning that might lead someone to misread disgust at seeing an unexpected penis as an opportunity to force inappropriate jokey knob humour into a conversation.

ThePurported · 02/08/2019 23:29

I'd like to know at what point and how David's risk profile changes and he goes from being a (I think we all here agree, creepy) man discussing his breast growth in the same breath as discussing girls puberty, to identifying as a woman and having access to spaces where those girls may be in a state of undress.

When we can no longer refer to him as 'he' on here, we'll know that he has become a Brave and Stunning.

I think he wrote about that in one of his previous columns, how he dreams about the day when he can join the queue to the women's and compare... handbags.

BretonDinosaur · 02/08/2019 23:25

What is the turning point from creepy old man to stunning and brave? Who gatekeeps? We as women are told not to question who is in our spaces, so who does get to question it? Acceptance without exception

Ooh I know this one. Because I spent all evening reading his columns of narcissism. He said “David it is, until David it isn’t”. Which I think means he gets to choose. Isn’t it convenient?

Mind you, in the same column he calls Germaine Greer “no less prejudiced or factually inaccurate than a shaven headed BNP racist” for saying that lopping your penis off doesn’t make you a woman. Because, and this is a great quote common decency and the law say they’re wrong

Common decency and the law tend not to go hand in hand in my experience. And a law that lets a man who is creepily obsessed with his pubescent like breasts become to all intents and purposes a woman is not decent in any way shape or form.

LauraMipsum

this is exactly why I dont like him.

Datun · 02/08/2019 23:22

No, nor would I.

Bespin · 02/08/2019 23:20

because I dont want to sit at work or at home talking about this shite. yep david as been around years and as been a knob for all that time.

Datun · 02/08/2019 23:18

Incidentally bespin, if you have dyslexia, why don't you use the microphone on your keyboard as you have a smart phone.

You can do punctuation, new paragraphs, brackets, the lot. And it's much quicker.
