Are feminists getting played?

It makes me sad that feminists are spending so much time banging on about bathrooms in a world that has women still working for no pay, old women still more likely to be poor, surrogacy, underfunded maternity care, and poor support for carers. And other stuff.

Yes, the trans thing is annoying, but have you noticed how it always fires up before major elections? It's like Afghanistan in the 80s when the US provided just enough weapons to keep the war going so Russia would use all it's energy and get weak.

I feel like feminism is getting distracted with the trans stuff. At most, it should take up 10 percent of our feminist attention. But I rarely see feminism these days that isn't all about trans. Seriously. Do you think we're getting played here? Is trans really such a big deal?

So, to use the language of Kiwifarms, OP was just red pilled.

Pink pilled, if you please.

JackyHolyoake · 28/07/2019 17:43

The OP was sceptical that if she named famous transwomen by their correct sex, that she would be deleted. She did, and she was. Twice.

So, the men who monitor this section of Mumsnet reporting women for making statements or voicing opinions that those men dislike.

Patriarchy in action, sisters.

Thank you for that explainer. So, to use the language of Kiwifarms, OP was just red pilled.

Datun · 28/07/2019 17:38

I'm not loving it, no. It's bloody awful. Because it's not confined to wankers on here reporting for women correctly identifying the male sex.

Kate Scottow was imprisoned for seven hours, separated from her breastfeeding baby, for correctly identifying the oppressing sex.

Harry the Owl was visited by the police for wrong think.

Maya Forstater was fired for non-compliance.

Posie Parker was accused of appropriating the word woman. ffs!

It's frightening. And it's not niche. Try it again. Here. Or at work. On Facebook or twitter.

sackrifice · 28/07/2019 17:34

Wait, what did I miss? What was OP even reported for?

Wrongspeak of some description. Who knows - its the weekend and all the adults are looking after their kids at weekends, right?

Also, women on here are confronted with the issue in their daily lifes, on multiple fronts.

Some see their children being 'taught' transgender ideology at school and rightly feel their kids might be gaslighted in a dangerous way (be it being led down a path of bodily harm or losing their ability to set boundaries).

Some work in women's shelters or hospitals or wards or have relatives there and see the effect the loss of protected spaces has on women.

Some have felt so intimidated by males in changing rooms that they choose not to go to the pool any more.... changing their daily lives because of it.

Some have seen the local politicians who care about feminist issues be replaced by people who openly mock and neglect women's rights and feminist policies and who center the rights of the female penis instead.

Some know women in women's sports, or who apply for women's scholarships, short lists.... And the list goes on...

This touches on so many issues in practical, daily life. If you abstain from feminism that touches on any of that, that's quite some radically curtailed 'feminism' you are left with.

Floisme · 28/07/2019 17:27

And I just spent so long trying to compose something insightful that several posters beat me to it!

Floisme · 28/07/2019 17:24

There are two reasons why I think this is the most important issue at the moment.

The first is littlebrowndog's question about how we can have feminism if we can't define who is - or isn't - a woman.

The second, as so beautifully illustrated just now, is the lengths some people are prepared to go to just to stop us talking about it.

sackrifice · 28/07/2019 17:24

OP: Is trans really such a big deal?

Everyone else: if it wasn't why do they try to silence you?

OP: Ha ha ha that's funny. Oh.

LangCleg · 28/07/2019 17:17

OP didn't believe that we are constantly monitored for wrongspeak by WOMEN and MNHQ agree that this is okay and will delete any wrongspeak that those WOMEN point out?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

sackrifice · 28/07/2019 17:10

There is also the very significant fact that MN is one of only about 3 forums on the entire web where women can gather to discuss genderism without being silenced and banned.

To be fair, plenty of women are banned on here. Mainly at weekends it would seem. We have to say the right words if we want to stay.

FloralBunting · 28/07/2019 17:06

I dont think Datun is loving it. I know I'm not. Being aware of the sweep and scope of these issues, seeing the truth slowly dawn on other women, it's not a pleasant experience. There's a reason some of us reference Cassandra - being the ones who can see what is happening, however unbelievable it is to others, is not a happy place.

BickerinBrattle · 28/07/2019 17:05

What some might see as disproportionate focus is the result of the gathering of exiles onto the only island available.

Think, though, about what it means that throughout the Wild West of the whole global Internet, the ONE group that cannot freely gather to discuss threats to their definition as an oppressed class and indeed even as an ontological category are women.

If that doesn’t make you understand why feminists focus so intently on transactivism, I don’t know what will.

youkiddingme · 28/07/2019 16:51

Thank you Imnobody4

deepwatersolo · 28/07/2019 16:46

Sakura if we are not allowed to define who a women is then there will be no,feminist movement or feminists for you to work with

Well, there will always be some Jessica Yaniv making sure we get someone to wax our balls, willingly or not, no?

Trans is an ideology part of Queer theory- it is not just a few individuals. It is an ideology that rewrites feminism into a movement for equality for everyone.

I consider this a serious threat because

  1. It has resulted in the capture of democratic institutions supported by lib fems (who I said earlier were the one's who are being played
  2. It has infiltrated schools and feminist projects like Let Toys Be Toys to push regressive gender stereotypes which I had believed were long gone.
  3. It is pushing the damaging medicalisation and mutilation of young girls
4 It is silencing women using the police as well as on line social media and now Wikepedia. It is threatening the jobs and careers of women who speak out. It has coined new hate speech to protect trans and to vilify feminists TERF. 5. Attempts to rewrite the law have been made undercover without consultation with women. This includes plans to rewrite the Equalities Act. This has been stopped in its tracks by the focus on trans ideology.
  1. The erosion of single sex spaces is still happening and the rights of women in prisons, refuges, hospitals, care etc etc being held in contempt.
I could go on. Wealthy powerful trans activists have and are working tirelessly to gain rights and influence way beyond basic human rights. The mantra has been 'No debate' Trans activism is a Trojan horse bringing with it the sex industry, surrogacy and an attack on Lesbian identity itself. No it's not very important, a trivial issue. I am proud of what we are achieving as feminists and the confidence we are gaining will serve us well in other battles.
littlbrowndog · 28/07/2019 16:40

It really is as simple as that.

This seems like the last place where you’re going to get posters to prioritise other issues over being gender critical.

You'd think.

Datun · 28/07/2019 16:35

And if you do it again, maniak, you'll be banned from this forum. You won't be able to ask why we are spending so much time on this issue, because you won't have a voice

Maniak · 28/07/2019 16:35

Caitlyn Jenner has NEVER been a man called Bruce.

Laurel Hubbard was NEVER a man called Gavin. They are both women and have always been women, except when they were too young to be, obviously.

@datun I'm speechless. I thought I expected it but no actually I'm astonished.

Indeed.

You cannot address power structures between men and women, if you can't identify who is who.
