Are feminists getting played?

It makes me sad that feminists are spending so much time banging on about bathrooms in a world that has women still working for no pay, old women still more likely to be poor, surrogacy, underfunded maternity care, and poor support for carers. And other stuff.

Yes, the trans thing is annoying, but have you noticed how it always fires up before major elections? It's like Afghanistan in the 80s when the US provided just enough weapons to keep the war going so Russia would use all it's energy and get weak.

I feel like feminism is getting distracted with the trans stuff. At most, it should take up 10 percent of our feminist attention. But I rarely see feminism these days that isn't all about trans. Seriously. Do you think we're getting played here? Is trans really such a big deal?

Hahahaha. Yes, of course. Women are banned all over the internet for using correct sex pronouns, but on FWR, we do it to ourselves to make a point. Devastating logic.

JackyHolyoake · 28/07/2019 18:35

For example, to circumvent any request to express pronouns or so-called "mis-gendering" I now use 'h' or 'hself'. This way, I am complying with any request so that I can continue to participate but I am also staying true to my beliefs and freedom of expression.

Readers can interpret my use of pronouns how they choose.

JackyHolyoake · 28/07/2019 18:28

What organisations can do is ask participants to exercise what that organisation deems to be good manners and express what it deems to be politeness towards each other.

What an organisation or state cannot do is breach the Human Rights of others and compel speech or belief.

sackrifice · 28/07/2019 18:28

And I don't understand why Cohle thinks TRAs wouldn't report the OP. Why wouldn't they? She correctly sexed a person. We all do that and get reported. Why wouldn't she?

Perhaps Cohle is the one reporting all the correct sexing, but this time they didn't? So naturally assume it was one of 'us'? Whatever that means.

Datun · 28/07/2019 18:24

JackyHolyoake · 28/07/2019 18:23

MN's talk guidelines in relation to trans issues are perfectly clear and they are entitled to moderate their platform as they see fit.

I think it is debatable in terms of international human rights law whether any state or organisation can compel the speech, expression of belief of anyone. Human rights laws are universal.

See Articles 18 and 19:

www.un.org/en/universal-declaration-human-rights/

merrymouse · 28/07/2019 18:22

it was a GC poster gleefully making a point.

The point being that the posts were against guidelines... which apparently they were?

I don't understand why this is being characterised as a 'gleeful' act.

Datun · 28/07/2019 18:20

Cohle

Can you explain to me why all the gender critical feminist regularly get their post reported by TRAs for correctly sexing a person, but in the case of the OP, the TRAs wouldn't do it?

sackrifice · 28/07/2019 18:19

Because was it hell a TRA trying to silence debate, it was a GC poster gleefully making a point.

What point exactly?

Floisme · 28/07/2019 18:17

The op broke the rules which are pinned at the top of the Feminism thread list. The only question deserving of a Hmm is why anyone who posts on here is surprised at the deletion.
Welcome to our world.

Goodness me, how foolish can you be ?

What these people who complain are trying to do is compel everyone else to interact according to their rules which they have created out of nothing but their own ideas.

Precisely.

Being able to 'report' women for wrong think, should not be a thing.

Focusing on who reported it, is wilfully missing the point. And no, it wasn't me, but it wouldn't matter if it was. I shouldn't be able to, for goodness sake.

JackyHolyoake · 28/07/2019 18:13

And, I should have made it clear that I am not just referring to Mumsnet here. I am referring to all social media channels; eg: Twitter, Facebook, etc

JackyHolyoake · 28/07/2019 18:11

the same people who always report correct sexing comments. That's par for the course

Given that UK law states that no-one can change their natural sex; and that there is no reference in any UK statute to pronoun usage, so-called 'mis-gendering' or so-called 'dead-naming' there is no legal basis for any complaint.

Add to this the fact that, according to Human Rights law, no-one's speech, expression or beliefs can be compelled by the state so cannot be written into any law, there is again no legal basis for any complaint.

What these people who complain are trying to do is compel everyone else to interact according to their rules which they have created out of nothing but their own ideas.

Datun · 28/07/2019 18:08

Gosh, I wonder who reported those comments?

Who cares? The point is there is a mechanism in place to shut women down. Reporting it should go nowhere.

merrymouse · 28/07/2019 17:59

Oh, I see.

FloralBunting · 28/07/2019 17:57

Cohle, the same people who always report correct sexing comments. That's par for the course here. You have been here a while, yes?

JackyHolyoake · 28/07/2019 17:57

In UK, this provision exists within the GRA 2004 Explanatory Notes:

  1. Subsection (2) provides amplification of subsection (1), making clear that the recognition is not retrospective, so the certificate does not rewrite the gender history of the transsexual person, and that the new gender applies for the interpretation of enactments, instruments and documents made before as well as after the issue of a certificate.

LangCleg

So, to use the language of Kiwifarms, OP was just red pilled.

Pink pilled, if you please.

Okay now I've made a mess, coffee everywhere! That was gold! 🤣

deepwatersolo · 28/07/2019 17:53

Is Caitlyn Jenner going to give up the Olympic medal won as a man called Bruce? Are you saying that the medal was won under false pretences, or that any woman could have won that medal?

From what I gather OP said the opposite of 'Caitlyn Jenner has NEVER been a man called Bruce' or something similar and was deleted. So she repeated that in response, annoyed for having been deleted. OP is not arguing the verbatim sentence.

deepwatersolo · 28/07/2019 17:49

Pink pilled, if you please.

merrymouse · 28/07/2019 17:46

But there is also surrogacy and a capitalist system that is structured so that the bulk of women's work is entirely unpaid and people aren't even arguing.

Sorry whose work is unpaid? You can't claim that women do more unpaid work than men if you don't have the language to differentiate between men and women.

Caitlyn Jenner has NEVER been a man called Bruce.

Is Caitlyn Jenner going to give up the Olympic medal won as a man called Bruce? Are you saying that the medal was won under false pretences, or that any woman could have won that medal?

Cohle · 28/07/2019 17:46

Gosh, I wonder who reported those comments? Hmm

LangCleg · 28/07/2019 17:46

I think you meant WOMEN, Jacky.
