I look forward to continuing my work to improve the welfare system and I’ll do everything I can to help women and girls improve their lives.

Good as long as she knows what a woman is.

Turbo

Brexit will get plenty of support/coverage anyway so I think a big campaign regarding women voting for a party that knows what a woman is might be a good idea.

I filled in the link for the conservative party and made it clear what a woman is and that trans rights need to be separate to women's rights and the safe guarding of women and children. If enough women do the same hopefully they will realise this is an important issue.

I don't know how BJ feels about Salvini but both are anti EU so he may want them onside, so Italy considering banning puberty blockers is good news - it's bloody fantastic news anyway. If CS is good friends with Nimco that is great news as she will hopefully understand what a woman is and the issues faced because of biology rather than identity.

Feeling a bit more positive about him being PM now.

ZebrasAreBras · 25/07/2019 08:17

The TRAs are already lobbying Amber Rudd. They don't hang around.

So I think as many women as possible contacting her to point out women's sex-based rights, and rights to single sex spaces, would be good. And the situation in Canada, of course.

We are, for the worst possible reasons, fortunate to have the example of Canada - who are paving the way and flagging up the horrific issues that are the end result of this sort of TWAW legislation.

Also Scotland - surely Rudd will look at how/why Scotland puts the brakes on this legislation too?

Boris will have his hands full with brexit.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 25/07/2019 07:25

OP your link to your that thread about Carrie has given me hope. There is no way she thinks transwomen are literally women, she knows too much about the realities of being female. I'm sure she wants trans people to be protected from discrimination and violence just like we do, but not that a male becomes female on his say so.

TurboTeddy · 25/07/2019 00:06

I think we need to get some campaign on social media going which spells out that the women's vote will go to whichever party knows what a woman is. Brexit might be the bigger, more immediate issue but it's such a shit show now, I think it's out of our hands.

LoveGrowsWhere · 24/07/2019 22:21

I think it's time to write again to Conservative MPs & spell out the opportunity for a clear & wide policy difference from Lab/Lib on GRA. Most pundits think a general election will be called in less than a year and with Brexit & summer recess there is a need for some ideas in other policy areas to shout about.

Spot on Popchyk

AnotherAdultHumanFemale · 24/07/2019 22:11

Would it help if we contacted Amber Rudd to get our views heard about self ID? I know those lobby groups will be contacting her immediately to try to get their views heard.

OvaHere · 24/07/2019 22:02

A LOT of this never happens shit has happened since Rudd last held the post including a big pushback in Scotland thanks to Joan & Joanna.

She will be aware of this and therefore may just keep kicking it down the road which is better than forging ahead with self ID but it doesn't address the issues of many organisations disregarding the Equality Act or the increasingly pressing issue of medical whistleblowing about the welfare of gender confused children.

OvaHere · 24/07/2019 21:55

Posting this here from the other thread. Free text box to tell Boris your most pressing issues.

TRAs won't be happy though.

Maria Miller did exactly what she was told to do by the trans lobby. But didn't last long enough in the job to get the law changed.

And Mordaunt was compliant and repeated the mantras until the backlash gained traction in the media. Then she was largely silent.

Rudd has been on the carousel before. Knows some of the issues at least, knows that self-ID is getting ever more controversial. Knows that Miller and Mordaunt rightly got flak for their lack of any thought about the impact on women.

An astute politician would be able to use that to her advantage.

But Rudd will just ignore it and hope it goes away. She'll be in another ministerial position in 6 months so she'll keep her head down and hope to move to a more prominent department. No way is Rudd going to force through self-ID and risk her career. She didn't last time she was at W&E. And won't do it now.

That's a problem for the TRAs.

ThePurported · 24/07/2019 21:37

I agree Popchyk. It shouldn't be a part-time job that is given to whichever woman in the cabinet is willing to take it on. The GEO calls the shots, the minister is just a mouthpiece.

Lumene · 24/07/2019 21:32

Ah thanks Ova

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/07/2019 21:30

I wonder whether Boris's sister has any sway on him? I'm sure she's GC. And did the stint in the BB house with Willoughby.

I do suspect the GRA won't be self ID. A large number of trans people with genuine GD who relied/ rely on current structures are very much against it and becoming more vocal from what I can gather.

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/07/2019 21:26

I agree pop.

OvaHere · 24/07/2019 21:23

I remember a TV news interview with Rudd a while back - was it by Julie Bindel? Where she started rowing back a bit on the GRA total reform.

Unfortunately that was Justine Greening

Popchyk · 24/07/2019 21:12

I actually think that this constant turnover of W&E ministers is a bad thing.

Every new face pitches up not knowing anything about the GRA and its proposed reform, listens gravely to the Stonewall civil servants telling their tales of suicide and erasure of transfolx, and the Minister then goes forth to repeat what the GEO staff have instructed her to say.

Just as the penny (no pun intended) is beginning to drop with these ministers, they get moved on again.

And yet another witless handmaiden enters the fray.

And so it continues.

AutumnCrow · 24/07/2019 20:59

Amber Rudd is hopeless on women's sex-based rights. If the new PM feels some pushback on her lazy wokey position it will be interesting.

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/07/2019 20:58
Lumene · 24/07/2019 20:58

Wasn’t Amber Rudd in charge when they first kicked off the GRA reforms?

AutumnCrow · 24/07/2019 20:57

Fuck's sake
